Title: Euro or sterling
Post by: soniaP on September 01, 2018, 09:54:18 AM
On the way home at the airport in July we bought some stuff in duty free and paid by card. We were asked if we wanted to pay in Euros or pounds. Which is the best please?

You should always say euros or you will get a really bad exchange rate.

Hi
As Jersey Bean says, never pay in sterling, when using debit/credit cards, no matter what you purchase or where. Always pay in the local currency no matter where in the world.
Previous posts on this subject explain in full the reason.

We found this out the hard way, and it was still a good exchange rate then. Ended up paying almost half the amount we had withdrawn. Never did it again.

Hi
Look at your bank statements, and if you paid in euro you will be pleasantly surprised at the exchange rate you got. Conversely if you paid in sterling the surprise will not be so pleasant.

Hi
Bought some cigarettes using a debit card last week. Paid in Euros.
Just checked my bank account and the exchange rate was 1.1163.
