Title: Hard Beds, Soft Battles?
Post by: CJ on June 26, 2014, 04:46:03 PM
Hi all

As I may have mentioned already, we have had a wonderful holiday in Arillas and the welcome at the Mathraki could not have been better.  One blot on the landscape however - the mattresses on the beds.  Marion suffers from a bad back (has done for some years) and she has started to really struggle to get any sleep on our past two holidays.
I'm going to e-mail Akis to see if anything can be done so that we can continue to enjoy the Mathraki but I was just wondering if any of you know of any accommodations in Arillas that have sprung mattresses on their beds?  Anyone wake up every morning on holiday, stretch and say 'Wow! That was a great night's sleep'?
If so, please let us know.  We love our Arillas self-catering and don't really want to end up in a hotel or even (don't say it!) a different resort just so that we can get a good night's kip.

I may be wrong here but I think nearly all apt beds are of the single type and have those wooden slats underneath which can even make a softer mattress a tad on the hard side.

I do remember , many years back when I used a second mattress, from an empty apt, over the top of the first one, to make it softer. With the apt owners permission, of course.
( A bit higher and I slept with a parachute on)

Interested to see any reports form other guests.

I have had the same problem at the Kaloudis. When I mentioned it to the rep she says if I asked Roula she would sort something out for me.
Anyway Roula says she can get a topper put on for me for our next visit in Sept and just to email her to remind her.
We came back 13 the June and so lovely to get back to my own memory foam mattress!! Wish I could have taken it with me would than have been the perfect holiday.

The mattresses at Nikos Apartments at the top of the village are lovely and comfy.  Last year we decided to stay somewhere different, but the mattress was so hard we won't be going back and will be returning to Nikos again in September when we visit.  Comfy mattress is at the top of our holiday must haves!

I know it's a hotel and more expensive, but the beds in the Horizon are fantastic!  I have to have a good bed for my back too and I had a really comfortable and good night's sleep.

Also the rooms had aircon, mosquito nets and were very spacious - can really recommend if none of the apartments can offer what you want.

Bardis Sun Studios replaced all of their mattresses last summer with two sided ones. One side is s-o-f-t and the other h-a-r-d. If in doubt, turn it over.....  But I can't offer verification, even after three weeks on one. My back is OK, and I have to admit that I could sleep on the floor of the Nut, or the beach, or MY bench opposite Thalassa. But Jen finds them very comfortable so I am posting this.

Beware though, in high season they are fully booked a year in advance. Their season ends early so plan ahead. Nobody is going to be in room 10 next July except Jen and me.

Hi CJ,
We have stayed at Irene Villas Apartments with Eleni and Spiro at least 11 times and the beds are lovely and very comfortable. The double beds are 2 single beds joined together with a special foam insert to make a huge comfortable large double bed. All the beds also have mosquito nets over them if you want to open all the windows. The windows have mosquito screens anyway. Highly recommended with extra touches such as the fridge stocked with essential provisions on arrival including cold beer. We are returning in 2 weeks for 3 weeks and can't wait. Its just next to the rainbow bar perfect for a nght cap and a swim in the morning.

I bring my own blow up mattress !
Gabiola

I had one of those once. It blew up and I ended up sleeping on the roof!!

But I am thinking of arranging one of these for Phil , next week, and have it filled with gravel
That will puzzle him!!

Hi Fiona

Ta for the valuable intel.  Sounds like the Irene studios are a definite maybe, although we're still hoping that Nikos will sort something out for us at the Mathraki!

Cheers - CJ

Just to mention that Irene Villas Apartments are different from Irene studios.

WOTCANISAY?

Puzzled person with Punto here , perplexed and partly panicking. (too many P's in a short space of time)

One can only quote from a post if it has been posted , but... you are correct in saying....
... "Where is my post??"

Be assured that I will see Dimitris tomorrow and find this hiccup in the system.

The blow up mattress was just a jest to . hopefully make people smile. We can only try (all of us)

Right now I wish I had a blow up mattress filled with TNT. (The detonator I will gladly give to you.)

Good Wishes

Well, no big deal if any of my post disappear, but what I'm more concerned of is that you posted under my name ! At least that's what it looks like.
I hope Dimitris finds some good medicine for the hiccups :)
But other than that...... life is good ! :) :)

Love,
Gabiola
PS: funny side note: I wanted to report this post to the moderator, but I got the note "You can't report your own post to the moderator, that doesn't make sense!" That gave me a good laugh.....but the truth is where the truth is, hahaha

Gabiola

It does look like I have posted under your name and that is what concerns me. There are no "BAD" Arilliacs but, if we had one and if they found out how to do this then much damage could be done.
(How would Phil react if he saw one, under his name , saying "I hate Arillas because........")

No one's informative posts should disappear and I seem to think, some time ago seeing answers to a post which had "vanished" - I was not guilty on that one though.

I am pleased you picked this up and maybe a lunchtime Ouzo with Dimi will produce the answer.
Be Well

Gabiola - An Ouzo or two will be reserved for you.

Now.... It seems that , because Dimitris has given me a delete facility to get rid of all those sneaky posts that advertise various dubious items such as viagara etc, it can have an effect on what "Keys" I hit if I am playing around a tad.

Of course you never will see those posts on the Forum as I or Dimitris get to them first.

Bottom line is ---- I hit a key that I should not have hit and then did not check my post which of course took your post out and replaced it with mine. -- Gotta big headache now!!

I am a very happy bunny that you took the time to point this out as I could have repeated this error again and again. .

Anyway --- Back to blow up mattresses. I asked someone to bring me one over and, not only was it too big for the suitcase but was too big to wedge in those overhead compartments. Should I have asked him for a single or maybe ............... I could inflate it here as I am full of hot air, most of the time.

Stay well from a "New Tread carefully and check what I post EGG"

Cheers

Gabiola I don't think anyone who comes to Arillas needs the V stuff. We are all very quiet, well behaved and capable......

Have you heard of Phil? Trying my best to prove them ALL wrong. And to my credit I usually do. I don't do battles..........

Love love love the hard mattresses in Greece! We've always had a comfortable nights sleep when we've been on holiday there. For years we thought it was due to being so relaxed and stress free from work (or too much alcohol!) but eventually realised it was due to the hard mattresses so eventually we bought a very hard mattress at home and needless to say...we've never looked back. So it's  hard mattresses for us every time!

Lol!
Loving the up dates of Arillas Phil...even though we're off to Alykes in Zantre on Tuesday for 2 weeks this year. We're both still very excited though and hope we love it as much as we love our beautiful Arillas
However, your updates are still getting us in the mood for our long awaited well earned (if I say so myself!) summer holiday!
Maybe we will meet up one day? We will be there in August 2015...until then.. I wish you and Jen all the happiness ,peace and love that Arillas always offers.
Enjoy and saviour every minute!

Val - Methinks some jolly japes will be in order with a new opponent , then.

That takes the pressure away from you n Bill and Phil ,who when he reads this will do the "West Somerset Farmers Dance"

Gabiola - Do not worry about Phil. It is true he does not do battles, but he is very good at bottles!!

Greek beds can be very hard for many to adapt. For many Appt beds it's the wooden slats under that add to the firmness. Put one of those thick woolly blankets underneath the sheet. That can work a treat.

I do think that the more you visit the same apartments more comfortable the beds become.

Well that's my excuse for returning to the Mathraki twice a year...mind you it did take me a long time to decide that this was the reason, along with the wonderful family that run these apartments.
