Hi, we would like to spend a day in Corfu town, went last year on a half day trip from Arillas but found it wasnt long enough to fully explore, whats the best way to get there for a whole day, dont want to hire a car as we want to enjoy some wine/beer at lunch time
Hello
You could get a taxi there, though I don't know how much a taxi would cost from Arillas. Also I know that if you head to san stefanos, san stefanos travel do a day trip 9-5 to Corfu town.
Never been there myself but will be taking a trip this year, do you have any recommendations about where is nice to visit there?
Hello,
They say 9-5 for the trips but we found we were picked up at 9.30 and by the time we got to Corfu Town it was close to 11am - then we were picked up at 4.30 for the trip back. So were only there for five hours, taxi would be ok if we could arrange to have the same person take us and bring us back, dont mind paying as long as we are there all day, so much to see and do, can't even begin to tell you how lovely it is, the forts, museums cafes etc, you will have a lovely time.
Hi spicy,
You could try contacting the people at your apartments to see if they could arrange something for you.
I tried getting a taxi when i was there, i asked for a taxi at 13:45 and was told none were available in Arillas or San Stef until 6pm!
They could have had one sent from Sidari but i would have had to pay that fare plus the fare for my journey.. i didn't bother, i walked lol.
Also, a couple at my apartments wanted a taxi to Sidari one morning, they waited over an hour for one then to be told there weren't any available till the afternoon.
So with this in mind, i would definitely try to sort something in advance!
I have a trip to Corfu Town on my list for next year. The day trip will more than likely be enough for me as i'm only really interested in visiting the graveyard and mouse island.. but that's a long while away so i've plenty of time to think about it!
What about if you did the day trip and also the night visit?.. you could just stay in Corfu town the whole day & return on the late coach? You would definitely get a full day then :-)
Why not really make it a whole day or even more, and stay in town? You could save the 100+ euros a two way taxi will cost and have a leisurely outward journey on the bus (it goes early) and a lovely day and evening there and then come back the next day at a suitably laid back pace at little cost.
I think our Eileen knows of a super apartment owned by Leonidas, but there must be a big choice available.
Just a thought....

The best way, unfortunately, is to hire a car for the day. This will make you your own boss in deciding when you want to be there and when you want to leave. - Much cheaper and the world (or Kerkira) will then be your oyster!

Yeah but the parking can be tricky!
ooohhh let me ask a question or two as was thinking of either a coach or car journey to Corfu Town
Are all the sights in Corfu Town easy to find, as in one localised area? If hiring a car is it best to park in one place (recommendations?) and then pootle around on foot ?
Am I right in thinking Mouse Island is outside of Corfu Town and is it one of those places you look at, take a pic and leave ?
Thanks
Dave, Mouse Island is right next to the airport and a fantastic place to visit if you want to be in awe of hundreds of tons of metal regularly defying gravity.
Corfu Town could occupy you for weeks and more and I wouldn't describe it as all the sights in one localised area. We spent a whole day just visiting the old fortress, and the town has so many delights to see, you could easily miss all of it on a day trip. No expert, because we choose to stay at the centre of our universe - Arillas. (Eileen is to blame for that accepted description of philnJen.)
Don't try and do everything in a short time. Rather savour a few aspects then come back and add some more to your list. Just chill and enjoy!
Phil
As long as you plan to be there around 8 a.m. the parking is not a problem.
Be there early morning and watch the Town wake up.
I have always found the parking at the docks to be the best place. A ten minute stroll, from there, via the bus station takes you "Sanrocco Square"

We have always taken a car to Corfu town, and the trip there is always full of new places to explore. Parking, has never been a problem for me, but Im used to parking a little outside and walking in.. you need to be careful on the way back or you end up in the port lol... not that I have ever done that or anything....

We usually park at the new fortress, then walk through the market into san rocco. We've always spent 2-3 days of each holiday there and don't think we've cracked it yet. We see new places every time we visit. In december last year and april it was very different, much quieter and more relaxed, and much more easy to take in the architecture etc.
I rest my case. There is so much of Corfu town you will never take it all in, even if you live there.

We find that a scooter is by far the best way to travel anywhere in Greece, especially if you intend visiting somewhere busy like Corfu town, you'll have the wind in your hair whilst travelling through the most beautiful scenery and gorgeous little villages at a sensible pace until you see something that takes your fancy, then you just pull up and park wherever you want to and that's it, job done. Try it, the feeling of freedom is fantastic and as long as you're sensible you'll be fine.
do not know if this helps - but Saturdays are always good - no offices or official business is on going - no lawyers - notaries, accountants ,tax , electric etc - all the things you need!!
So tends to be quieter and parking is no problem - also very seldom cruise ships!
Have a lovely time

We took a Saturday trip with Olga's. Picked up by minibus at 9.30, arriving an hour later. Collected again at 3pm and back in Arillas before 4pm.
Could have done with a longer stay in Corfu Town but then again, it is time away from Arillas. (Wine festival was that evening too.)
This was our 4th visit to the capital, and found it just as enigmatic and labyrinthal as the first time. Found we had plenty of time just to wander, and (luckily) watch a bit of cricket. Great.
Trip cost 12 euros each, which seems good value.
