Travelling to Arillas in the last couple of years, we have noticed a new road being built. Does anyone know whether this is a bypass to avoid the road through the hills, and if so, does it save time?
have just got back to the uk. The new road is not open yet but it does look to me as though it is ready to open. When it does open it will probably save 10 - 15 mins as you wont need to go through the hills

I love the drive through the mountains (well when someone else is doing the driving that is!!)
Thanks Chris, hope you had a good time.
We don't mind the mountain road, but one of our daughters feels slightly sick when the road goes round and round in a hot coach. But the getting there is worth it!
Is this the bypass north of Arillas? On the way to sidari?
There is a new bypass for Avliotes not sure if it's open yet can anyone shed any light on this
No, the Avliotes bypass is not open yet - at least it wasn't when I was there in May.
It looked finished last year, I wonder why it's taking so long to open?

It's looked finished for several years....not sure what the problem is.
Sorry for going completely off thread Johnjue, that happens often here.......the transfer takes between 1-2 hours except if you're with Olympic when you get a free tour of Corfu!!

I have heard - and this is GOSSIP ONLY, I cannot vouch for the truth of this statement - that although the bypass is basically finished the contractor has not been paid for his work yet, so he has left a small gap in the middle unfinished so that it cannot be used.
Thanks for all your replys. We will just have to enjoy the coach ride and the mythos in the bar when we get off.
