Title: buying/building in Arillas
Post by: Pammie-w on August 12, 2011, 07:48:06 PM
I returned from my 3rd visit to Arillas at the end of July - it was as always wonderful. I am missing Arillas terribly and I have nagged my other half into submission and he is considering buying in the area - but I have to do the leg work!! So can anyone tell me the pitfalls (if any) of buying over there, along with average building costs (per sq m), planning permission etc. how long does the process take & how to go about it? oh and of course what is for sale in the area - as close to the centre as poss.

All I can say about buying land , is it's unbelievably straight forward. I think the advice is,once you find something you want to buy, to get yourself a Greek solicitor ( - I can give you details of the one we used if you wish) , and obviously you need an English one as well.
Then we just followed his instructions basically, and virtually the entire transaction was done via email!.
As for building something, I think there are others better qualified than myself to advise on this, and I'm sure there will be lots of advice forthcoming should you need it, but again, I believe if you find a good builder
it's fairly straightforward as the builder takes care of alot of the 'red tape' etc.
Good luck anyway.

This site is interesting, http://www.thecorfiot.com/ and there is useful info on the agnis forum too. We'll buy somewhere at some point over the next few years, but probably in a nearby village rather than arillas, and probably a house rather than land/build.

Thanks for all your replies!

Not heard anything negative which is great. But think due to laziness I will be looking to buy 2 bed apartment/house thats all ready to move straight into - it would be soley for my families use & not rented out.

Hi Pammie,
There are some new-build villas with stunning views over Arillas Bay being developed by an English guy I know. Don't know if this is what you have in mind but you can see some details on Roula Rouva's site  (a reputable local estate agents) :-

You will find plenty of other properties there as well.
If you want to go the self-build route (which is what I did) then I can give you the name of a very good local architect that will Project Manage the whole thing for you so you don't have to worry about anything.

Pammie

I know of a 2 bed, close to us in Kavadaddes, witha swimming pool and in a supper location.

The owner, now due to ill health, is reducing his price by e40,000.

so.... e210,000 will get you a four year old well built very peacefull part of North Corfu.

This reduction, however, may mean his arms will be snapped off immediately!.
It would need to be viewed very quickly.

PM me if you want details. ( About a very comfortable 8 minute drive to Arillas )

Cheers
