Title: The end for Palmair
Post by: Sandy x on January 11, 2011, 09:22:01 PM
Good job we didn't book with Palmair for May. I've just heard on the local news that they have gone out of business (thankfully Thomson are doing a flight from Bournemouth this year).

It's a great shame locally - they've operated out of Bournemouth for over 50 years. I didn't realise till we flew with them last year that they only had one plane. In earlier years, the original owner, Mr Bath of Bath Travel (also local) used to shake hands with every passenger as they boarded the plane and even last year, they had photos of all the cabin crew in their in-flight brochure so you knew exactly who was looking after you. I have to say, they were some opf the best flights I've ever done in terms of caring for passengers.

It sounds like it was a really nice "old fashioned" business that cared for its customers, Sandy!
Sadly it's a sign of the times nowadays - so many companies going out of business, and the ones that seem to be succeeding are the ones that don't have the same old fashioned values.....

That's very sad news Sandy. For me it emphasises why I love being in Arillas. The "old fashioned" (I would say "lost") values that Janis talks about are all around you there. So glad you hadn't booked.

It had been on the cards for several months Phil which is why I hadn't tried booking with them. Fortunately, Thomson are flying from Bournemouth this year - and also much cheaper than Palmair, although Angie and I got our outward flight with Palmair last Ocotber for only £59!

I remember it Sandy. Was amazed - needless to say we paid a lot more than that! Hope dad decides to go. A few quiet nights on your terrace looking out over Arillas and Gravia can't be too much of a burden!! As long as the "supplies" are plentiful.....
