Have you ever sat in your garden on a sunny day and watched aircraft flying overhead. If you are anything like Helen and myself you would probably say "I wish were up there going to Arillas" or " I wonder where that plane is coming from or going to". We have lots of planes fly over us and this new website will tell you the details of the flights you can see.
http://www.radarvirtuel.com
It could also be very useful if you had to pick someone up from an airport.
I did a check tonight and I saw a plane approaching on the map, went outside and saw it fly over and then found these flight details.
Flight Number : SHT19W
Company : British Airways Shuttle
ICAO Hex Code : 4010DA
Reg Code : G-EUXJ
Model : Airbus - A321-231
Departure : ABZ - Aberdeen, Dyce - United Kingdom
Arrival : LHR - London, Heathrow - United Kingdom
Last Message : 18:47:33 UTC
Latitude : 51.77321
Longitude : -0.69978
Altitude : 2644 m - 8675 ft
Ground Speed : 516 km/h - 321 mph - 279 knots
Vertical Speed (m/min) : -78 (DESCENT)

It appears on the map like this (The orange plane) and you can even see where it has circled around whilst waiting for a slot at Heathrow.

Thats amazing Terry - what a wonderful thing. On clear days the sky over us just north of Lincoln is full of vapour trails and planes going somewhere. Now I'll be able to find out where they are going and where they've come from.
I do keep beeing warned that the script on the page is causing my Internet Explorer to run slow - should I be worried?
Pat
Ace Terry! That is going to be addictive! Its like that website that recognises a song when you point your phone to it. can't remember the damn name though!
Terry mate, you are suffering like me. Dreaming about flying in, and driving past Pantokrator heading to nirvana. And doing air guitar in the Nut. Heaven and hell in the same place.
Struggling to find hell though. If Arillas is hell I will be proved the worst criminal who ever lived.
But then...
QuoteI do keep beeing warned that the script on the page is causing my Internet Explorer to run slow - should I be worried?

Try it in Firefox Patrick. If it continues it could be that you have a slow internet connection due to you being in a rural area.
Fantastic Terry !
Been looking for something like this for years !
Think it must be slow running due to rural area (3 miles from exchange) and best speed I get is usually just under 2mb (whereas they sold it me as capable of eight). Still its much beter than dialup.
The virtual radar runs OK - just a bit slow.
Thanks Terry.

We live opposite the exchange in Baltonsborough... Have a look on Google Street, BA68QY. As a result we get maximum speed. Between 6 and 8 mega bits per second. Some parts of the country get even more. Means bugger all to me.
I may be the most prolific poster on this forum, but it is because I care about things. I am not intrerested about competing. I post so much because I miss Arillas when I am not there.
Jen and me so belong in a villa opposite Brouklis. That piece of land must be worth a fortune. We would pay through our noses if we could afford to live there.
Help???????
Phil and Jen
Great site Terry will be watching flights from LBIA
Tony
Tery, despite myself, I have to admit, that is fascinating!
Ivan
Hi Phil
Is yours the one with the palm tree? Great to live by the exchange no wonder your posts reach us all so speedily!
Pat
Tell you what Terry that site is addictive i can see the planes take off and arrive from Leeds/Bradford
Using their live arrivals and departures in a pop up window along with Radar virtual is brilliant to plot the planes just had a ryanair go out a klm and jet2 come in
All good stuff
Tony
Good one Terry, there's a severe lack of aircraft near Corfu....
I've got none to watch!
Here is a similar site with better graphics but with less details
http://www.flightradar24.com/?
We're supposed to be able to get up to 8mbps but the reality is around 1! Our little rural area is too far from the Huddersfield exchange ...... (We still pay bt the same amount as anyone else though !!) (http://bestsmileys.com/frustrated/7.gif)
Still, I'll keep posting as much as possible, just have to click on preview first, then post and even then I sometimes lose the page! But at least it saves my post!

Dunno whats happened Terry but I get this now when I try to get on the aircraft site.

which was an alternative.
Is it to do with the Volcano in Iceland?
PJ
I just had a message pop up saying that its due to the amount of traffic on the sites, flight radar is available but with limited options due to traffic
Tony
I can't get the websites either. It must be due to the Volcano dust and hence no flights.
I had a read of this..... http://www.flightradar24.com/about.php#how ..... which was interesting, and I found out why I couldn't see some flights.
Flightradar24.com can only show information about airplanes equipped with ADS-B transponders. Today about 60% of the passanger airplanes and only a small amount of military and private airplanes have an ADS-B transponder. Flightradar24.com has a network of about 100 ADS-B receivers around the world that receives the information from airplanes with ADS-B and sends this information to a server, and then displays this information on a map on Flightradar24.com. Only airplanes within the coverage area of the 100 receivers are visible.
Its a good job none of us were off to Arillas today or tomorrow. Our Quality Manages is stuck in Turkey and we can't be sure that he will get a flight back tomorrow.
I looked at the site earlier. It was odd to see no aircraft over UK and a fair bit of europe. Most activity was over f/rance.
QuoteOur Quality Manager is stuck in Turkey and we can't be sure that he will get a flight back tomorrow.
Whoopee then Terry, you can spend all day making lovely videos and JibJabs to entertain us all!!!!!!
love to both
Phil
we had family arriving from the states yesterday they were diverted to schiphol/amsterdam and are still there we think, a bit of a nuisance for them but at least if they have never been before amsterdam is a nice city to be stuck in.
Ang
The sites are working today and this is the view of the flights which I think is quite eerie

Anyone interested in an up to date summary of ash distribution to compare against Terry's live flight link take a look at the Met Office site...Volcanic Ash Advisory (http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/aviation/vaac/data/VAG_1271398735.png)
Fascinating!
My heart goes out to the poor woman on the news last night who's stuck at Barcelona airport with a bunch of bored 13 year old schoolkids returning from a school trip! Nightmare!!
Phil

Sky News...NEWSFLASH
Reuters reporting a cloud of dust has closed all UK airports. Police have arrested the Newcastle United trophy room cleaner in connection with this incident.
Maybe you need to be in Geordieland to laugh at it.
