I've had no problems with easyjet, other than having to wait ages for the luggage when you get back to Gatwick. As I usually travel alone, I haven't bothered with speedyboarding but guess it's useful if you are travelling in a large group.

I can highly recommend Easyjet, but I have never used speedy-boarding. We travelled with them in May & their flights were on time, the aircraft was clean & tidy, the staff were all very nice & the food we purchased wasn't too bad.
Because you can't book your seats, there is a mad rush when they call your flight. On your boarding pass, you are either in zone A or B & the A's get to board first [after the speedy-boarders] I guess, you could request to be in zone A when you check in, but I'm not sure.

I've always been B....not quite sure what you have to do to qualify for A. Someone told me if you check-in on line with hand luggage only you will be A.

I'm going with hand luggage only in August so will test this theory....

We have never had any problems using Easyjet either, and agree with the aircraft and staff being as good as any other airline.

Regarding speedy-boarding, I think it may work well on the outbound flight, but on the return, you could be first on the bus, which will then fill with young families, then zone A, before being bussed to the plane, so I don't think Easyjet can guarantee you will be first onboard coming home.  In fact, Colin has just said that they don't guarantee it on their website.

We always presumed it was first come first served for zone A, but we could well be wrong, too!

Hope you have a good holiday anyway, Sue!

Used Easyjet to fly to Barcelona. We booked in early and so boarded first. Ba bit of a scramble if you where an "also ran". But quite happy. Would use them again.

I've booked in really early a times and still only been group B. I agree with what you say about the bus at Corfu airport Lynn.

Perhaps we where lucky and things have changed in two years. It was fun watching people jumping up to queue for a good seat when we knew we would board before them.

If things have changed, As a senior citizen I will campaign for special treatment.
We Oldies need to get the best seats.

You youngsters can manage with what is left. ))

Air travel is always the same. There must be a better way to board and exit a plane.
Why does everyone rush to get off, when the baggage is going to take for ever to arrive?

Listen mate 4x4 I am still a youngster and I will trample all over you in the rush....

Er no, not me, I am the timid shy one in the back of the queue.

What is this place doing to me?? My lovely Marika just turned up here and I haven't been the same since, If Sandy turns up tomorrow I'm finished. But then the Finnish one would have the same effect...

Love to all of you. Arillas is sitting here waiting for you

That is how it works. Or if you are one of the first to check in you might get in to the group A like I did coming back from Finland last March. I don't care where I sit as I almost always travel alone.

I will be travelling with them again 29th August when I am going home to Arillas ;)

So no complaints about anything with Easyjet and they serve drinks and snacks which is nice :)

we flew e/j,in 2008,and found it like any flight apart from the price <cheaper>,we always have a meal or have breakfast at gatwick ,so dont eat on the plane, and speedy boarding gives you the chance to dash and  get legroom seats, which we got going and coming back ,just a shame we have to wait for the 2010 prices........yammas

Returned on Friday from Corfu to Bristol and used easyjet and speedyboarding. Going out of Bristol there was a dedicated check-in which was great, as well as early boarding. Coming back on friday there was no speedy boarding facility at check-in though as easyjet is a scheduled flight you aren't at the mercy of the reps and made to queue outside. Just enter the terminal, find the check-in desk and queue as you would anyhere other than corfu. A much better experience then previous use of corfu airport. I was very surprised when speedyboarders were called first and a group of about 25 had our own bus to the aircraft and therefore a good choice of seats. I was able to get an emergency exit seat which I always try for. All in all a good experience with easyjet and the only criticism was that they did run out of food on the return flight. This didn't bother me as I usually take something to eat with me but some people were put out. I'd definately use easyjet again if the price is right.

Flew withEasyjet to Belfast in May and Paris in June.

Very professional with friendly staff.

Good take off and landings, so the pilots are ok aswell.

Flying again with Easy jet on 24th July to Corfu.

I just came back on Monday , flew both ways with Easyjet , Speedy Boarding went on first , then group A - those with children under 5 , then group B.We were in group B going and A coming back , I was nearly rugby tackled by a woman desperate to get a seat near the front !I have 2 children  and we  got seats together both ways , I would prefer seat allocation to stop the mad frenzy when boarding .
The staff were all lovely , very helpful , I d definitely use them again

My brother and family are on the Easyjet flight from Bristol tomorrow....setting off from home in Barnstaple at 4am. Apparently my 6 year old niece is worried they will oversleep and miss the flight....bless her. It's her first trip to Arillas and I'm secretly hoping she will become an addict so she can come out there and stay with me in school holidays when/if I ever retire.....I love her to bits and she's the nearest thing I have to a grandchild (so my children assure me!!).

We flew with Easy Jet for the first time this year.  Must say we had no complaints about the service they provided.  Only one problem, passengers trying to rush on, saving seats for each other.  So, the only one thing I missed was having allocated seats.  We saved £700, so over all we were happy. Nice guest house near to gatwick. Would be nice if they were to fly from Birmingham.  Great holiday yet again. This year we stayed in Kavadadas. Bring on 2010.

I was a little nervous of travelling 'budget' but I can thoroughly recommend the airline.  I found the crew really pleasant and actually quite humerous in their demonstrations etc.. and lets not forget the 5-600 quid saving!

Post by: Erja on August 25, 2009, 08:15:29 AM
My mate Min just flew to Finland and back with easyjet and had no complaints regarding the airline.

But she did mention that they were very strict about that people were only allowed one piece of hand luggage to the plane at the gate. If you could not squeeze everything in to one bag it was removed and placed to the hold.

So it seems that at times they really enforce the one piece of hand luggage per per person rule.
Title: Re: what do people think of easyjet

I shall have to be careful tonight then. I wonder if I'm allowed a "handbag" as well as my "hand luggage"?

Sandy, I wouldnt't risk it as thats what I thought, but then realised about the 1 bag rule so was frantically stuffing my (large) handbag into Lewis's rucksack, much to his disgust! I also forgot to put my makeup in clear plastic bags so was frantically doing that at the x-ray machine, hearing lots of tutting from behind! He he and got my toenail clippers confiscated!! You always get one eh!

Never had my clippers confiscated but have lost my nail scissors on more than one occasion. Don't do much make up but will stuff everything into one bag just to be sure. Can't wait.....

Bon voyage Sandy luvver. You will have a wondeful time. Good advice from Jo - it is only 1 bag. We took one rucksack and Jen's handbag - but I think that was bigger and more stuffed than the rucksack! Wonder what they do with all those nail scissors/clippers? They had had two of ours over the years....

We had settled to using GB airlines from Gatwick to Corfu having tried Thompson and XL too. When they sold to Easyjet we were a bit worried they might axe the service but it seems to have settled in.

Corfu remains a firm favourite aming Brits. Its one of the reasons we chose to build our vill here rather than in Bulgaria, Croatia or Monte Negro.

Service-wise we have not had any issue. We have found travelling with young children no problem at all. The planes remain the same GB airlines ones- which have a very generous leg room compared to the charter companies.

My only gripe would be the Midnight flight back. I do wish they would renegotiate this slot a few hours earlier.

However, that seems to be the slot we plump for nearly every time. There are others and early this year we got some very acceptable flight times.

We have not organised anything for October yet. Guess we had better start thinking about it soon. Things have just got so busy again. Over the last couple of months confidence seems to have returned to business. Holidays never stopped booking.

Makes you wonder if we are bottoming out.

Regards

Frank, you will be so glad of that decision in later life.

QuoteIts one of the reasons we chose to build our villa here rather than in Bulgaria, Croatia or Monte Negro.

You and Mandy will be able to spend many, many hours in such wonderful surroundings, enjoying rural NW Corfu for the rest of your lives. Money? Haven't a clue. If property appreciates more in the others so what? My old father-in-law taught me. "All I want is a halfpenny more than I can spend." And Jen and me don't do shopping (but we do good food and craic.) The lifestyle is priceless.

Hi Phil

Yes we hope to spend many more years there.

Unfortunately we have 3 substantial drains on our resources at this time ( Jayna, Elena and Joseph) and run our own business in the UK too as well as running Helios Court.

Our holidays in Corfu are at times a collapse, recover just a little to reconnect and then get patched up to be shipped back to the front line.

Moneys never been a big motivator for us. You just get sucked along (and maybe dry) by running your own show.

I obviously have it all wrong. How do you get to spend so much time on the forum? ;-)

Might check the flights tonight.

Frank what an inspiring post. We've sort of lost EasyJet but so what. Jen and me are older. Our "drains" are relatively self sufficient now. It happens eventually. Mind you, we have to make a family wedding in early October and at least we won't be bankrupt - not Hiroshima - Glastonbury Town Hall. 5 miles from here.

We ran a bit of our own show for a while. We could be on call 24/7 making reams of print outs for Lambeth Borough Council, or Jen in Court at housing hearings etc etc. We made a decision some years ago. A friend once said to her, dressed up for work "Sit down! You'll fall off those heels...."

We got rid of our money-pit house and focussed on growing older and living. Like most things, we've done that with a vegeance. Arillas has become a focus for it, as many recognise.

I am a teacher Frank. According to the rest of the world we only work part time with 12 weeks holiday to play with. But teaching is about learning, and being up to date and fit to stand and deliver. My work happens when you are relaxing. Researching the information I need etc. But somehow I can spend a long time on the forum in between. And as you know, Arillas occupies most of my waking thoughts...

Take care
Phil

I just received an email from easyjet for the final travel check list for my flight on Saturday and it quite clearly states:

No weight limit on hand baggage
Remember, we apply no weight restrictions on hand baggage*. The only stipulation is that the maximum dimensions do not exceed 55x40x20cm and that you are able to lift the bag into the overhead lockers yourself!

*Strictly one piece per person. Penalty charges apply for additional/oversized bag(s) which will be checked as hold baggage.

We have just done LGW-CFU return.  Hand baggage wasn't looked at either way.  Just asked how many pieces we had.  We checked in the night before at Gatwick, which was a brilliant, efficient procedure.  Nobody was asked to put their hand luggage in the frame.  Perhaps all of our bags were so small anyway!  I can't fault Easyjet really - never flown with them before, wouldn't hesitate to again.  A bit of a scrum for boarding, but I will not pay for Speedy Boarding on principle.  If you check in early and get Category A, you get on ahead of the majority anyway.  The definite cert is you will get a seat and you will arrive at your destination whether you pay for it or not!

My hand luggage is a small pink (obviously!) suitcase on wheels that fits within those dimensions, then what i do is, open the case and just lay my handbag on top of my stuff in there and then take it back out when im past prying eyes, cant not have my handbag lol!!

Hi Everyone,

I have the pleasure of flying to France from the UK regularly and often use easyJet. I find the customer service ok, and no different to any other airline really.

I do like that you find your seat on the plane, and from my many many travels with easyJet some tips (sorry off topic a little):

- always book speedy boarding! especially if your over 6 feet tall and want extra leg room seats (they only allow 20 places in speedy boarding per flight so book early)
- adopt European concepts of queuing, in other words (us first!) consider it a mission to be in the first 3 on the plane!
- when you get on the plane, most of the extra leg room seat are over the wings, head for the centre of the plane, everybody else will be scrambling for the front seats which are obvious
- the stewards will stand by extra leg room seats in the centre of the plane, they have a preferred place to stand which blocks of a row of extra leg room seats, sit in this row. If there are two of you and the plane is less than 90% full, chances are no body will ask him/her to move taking the 3rd seat (I assume you are party of two here) once the doors are closed this then means elbow room and space to spread out into that third seat! If the steward moves away, talk to him/her for a short time, this will bring your them back.
- If your sat in the wing exit row the steward will ask if your able bodied - you are!
- if you want to eat, take your food with you, most flights are stocked only once per day, if you fly in the evening, chances are they are sold out before they get to you and you will go hungry.
- Dont expect any hot food other than drinks/soup
- Dont think of easyJet as a budget airline, its not! once all the extras are added on its quite expensive and in some cases more expensive than other 'none budget' airlines

Check out this web site for all airlines, this points you to the best seats onboard and facilities locations, useful for any flight..

Really good info.  we have never had any problems with EJ...the seats are bigger than some other airlines too..

Mum in law flies up to Inverness in a couple of weeks time on her own, she is 80... we booked Speedy Booking seats for her, assistance to and from the plane, insurance and all for £61 return... no luggage though as that will be there before she gets there via road.  We know she will be well looked after, there will be trouble if she isnt!

Have just returned from using Easyjet again to Corfu and as previously, no problems. In fact we were early with both flights. Thanks Smiffy for the text saying you were on time by the way - did try to look out for you this morning but we were boarding almost before your luggage was off!

I took hand luggage only and checked in online in advance - so nobody ever saw what I was planning to take!! The only stipulation is that you have to be able to lift your bag into the overhead locker. I'll definitiely do that again next time.

had the best flights ever with easyjet this August. Really quick check in at manchester and Corfu, friendly staff and an amazing stand up comedian of a pilot on the outbound flight....stood at the front of the plane in full view of us all to introduce himself and really put us at our ease! Service was great and there were no delays. After a delay of 36 hours and very poor service overall from Air Malta last year this was bliss!

Hi Charlie, me again!
I'm no expert but it's best to book as far in advance as possible as the price increases the closer you get to the flight date.
Personally I much prefer EJ to Ryanair.

Hello again Glenny

Hope we don't start too many tongues wagging...

This will be the first time I am heading for a destination serviced by EJ (my last  Arillas visit was packaged)

Ryanair have these "bllodbaths" for some destinations prices, and so can be relied upon for a deal in the sort of time left before my departure...

We'll see

Used EJ four times (to and from Corfu) in the last couple of months and have absolutely no complaints.  All the planes have been new(ish), clean, plenty of leg room (even for 6'3"), topped up with food and 3 out of 4 arrived at the destination EARLY!!

In addition, flights are easy to change into different names, dates or destinations.  The first two flights I did not have speedy boarding, but I was flying on my own for the second two and added it on just before the trip - well worth the extra payment.

When flying from Gatwick on my second trip, the flight was at 05.55 and I arrived at the airport at 01.00 (due to having to catch the last train).  I was able to check in and "lose" my case immediately and managed to find one of the rare seats to sit until security opened at 02.00.

Out of all my flights to Corfu, I can honestly say that the EJ ones were the best - long may they continue!!

Fiona luvver - Jen and me did exactly the same in July. Related to every word. But what did you think of Arillas this time?

Hi Phil & Jen - to reply to your question about Arillas (sorry, off topic), of course it was wonderful.  Very few changes, incredibly welcoming and friendly, extraordinarily beautiful, peaceful, truly gastronomic (is that a word?), delightfully temperate and it continues to be our piece of heaven.  It's certain to say that we'll be back!

Ooooh just phoned to book for speedy boarding as we fly out 22/10/09 & found out that Easyjet have put into place a "pre passport check" before you get to the airport as this can delay you or refuse travel if you do not have this done! how mad... so its off to the travel agent tomorrow! So beware as we were not told this by Thomas Crook when we booked in june!

I had to do this for checking in online in advance but haven't had to do it for ordinary boarding.

I've booked for June and didn't have to do that? Have I missed something? What if you didn't have a passport at the time of booking?

Hi All

we had to provide passport details for when we go in may , we also had to submit passport details nearly 2 years ago when we flew with Ryanair to spain . Maybe it is a thing of the future as extra checks for aircraft safety .

We had to input our passport details too when we flew in September.

Sandy if you log in to Easyjet and go to your booking it should prompt you in red text whether you need to input your passport details, thats what happened with me.
