Title: New Visitors
Post by: Jo Wissett on February 25, 2009, 08:14:43 PM
AS many will or will not know, we are into our 12th glorious year holidaying in Arillas.  This year, due to our marriage blessing ( well...seeing as we have no reverend/church etc booked may be "I love you darling" on the beach!!) we have issued an open invite to family and friends.

My parents who have visited Arillas once before are coming for our 2nd week so that will be lovely.  My best friend and family have booked into Alex Studio's for the same fortnight and it will be their first time.

I am so looking forward to showing them our special place but keep thinking, last year they went to Florida, usually they head for Spain/Majorca etc so just HOW will our lovely village compare to these more lively resorts??

Personally, I fail to see why anyone would not like Arillas.  Yes I am biased but it is so pretty and harks back to the days of an old fashioned 'sea-side resort' where the emphasis is on family time, adult relaxation and fabulous food.

I dont know about anyone else but I feel so protective of Arillas and dread to think that they will nor share our view! As we arrive mid-afternoon I can't wait to see their reactions to the wonderful drive up and down the mountains, as well as that first climpse of Corfu Bay and of course the glistening sea in Arillas. Here's hoping..

Jo, I'm sure they will love Arillas. We took our friends with us a few years ago, and they liked it so much they came back with us the next year. This year, they're doing a greek island cruise, so we're meeting them for a day in Corfu town.

We're all as biased as you Jo. I can't see why anyone goes anywhere else between May and October!

Know what you mean, but they will be pleasantly surprised if they start to compare Arillas with Majorca. They must have realised there is a difference and are willing to give it a try.

I'd wager that they'll be back to Arillas again after this time... But I would, wouldn't I? Here's hoping I'm completely right

Hi Jo
New visitors to Arillas, Your best friend and family will have a wonderful time, and what a better way to spend their first holiday in Arillas than with a best friend.

I do not think you should worry about them not liking the only place to be when you're on holiday (Arillas)

How many times have you a read post on he forum relating to people's first visit to Arillas and the post ending WE CAN'T WAIT TO BOOK AGAIN
Yes you are going to have a wonderful time

It looks like you are there just after we come home this year It would have been nice to bump into you again. But if we do miss each other have a fantastic time

Jo, I know exactly what you mean and every time I have taken new people out to Arillas, I have worried they may not understand why I love it so much. Only once have I been disappointed by the response, and to be frank I'm not bothered if those people never go back.

This year I have lots of different people going over to stay in my house so I'm already worrying, not just about the house, but also that they will think I'm mad to have taken on the project there in the first place. As you say, those of us who love the place, are fiercely protective of it....

Hi All!
Recently I have met people at a local Organ and Keyboard Club and the conversation has got to the 'where are you going on holiday' stage. I have mentioned Arillas, Corfu and had a mixed response. A lot of people seem to have had the 'Sidari' or Kavos' experience when younger and think all Corfu is like that! Once they have seen the pictures they seem very surprised and keen to learn more.
About a week ago I met a retired colleague I hadn't seen for about ten years and the same subject came up. Every year, he and his wife go to Ag. Georgious and visit Arillas regularly when there. The strange thing is they are usually there in May. They too have made it their 'favorite place' and are looking at property in Arillas and the surrounding area to 'settle down'. Small world! We are all lucky to know and love this 'special' place.
Yammas,
Martin.

Ha ha Anne Marie, I'm sure that I will have a 'gathering' the night before, although may be risking it that close as I cant do 'moderation!'.  Yes we remember you, I think I spoke to your daughters in the pool. Are you in the same apts again?

On the plus side, I have just received an email from The Church in Corfu who says they have a Vicar starting in June so fingers crossed.  Thanks Viv for your help and just sorry that you will not be as fortunate. Yes Kevin, I would lone to pick your brains so will PM you.

I did the Kavos thing in 1986 (I think) at about 18. Loved it!

Probably because I just couldn't handle sleeping it off on the beach another minute I hired a Beach Buggy in the main street one day and drove cross country, at least as far as Paleo.

The beauty of Corfu is something that really struck me.

I have been very fortunate to have travelled a lot since, privately and with work and when Amanda and I started to think about property overseas Corfu was still right there at the top of the list.

I see Arillas as Corfu for grown ups, Kavos is for kids and Sidari, well its for Sidari types!

Doesnt matter how you catch the Corfu bug so long as you get there at least once.

Next time someone sneers at Corfu based on experience of Kavos try saying "Well Arillas is Corfu for grown ups"

Its wonderful that the same island can have such a broad appeal.

Getting married somewhere you love already will be great Jo. Actually, Amanda and I got married overseas and that place is always special to us because of the association. Unfortunately being 8000 miles away means its not somewhere we can get to easily:-(

Making Arillas "your special place" by getting married there in addition to it being somewhere you feel at home can only make it better.

We wish you the very best with it all!

Hi "Corfusoon" (Frank yes? or Mandy?)

Did the sums, and guess 1986 and 18 years old means 41 or 42. Bit older than you!

We never fancied Kavos, even at 18, but didn't miss much, did we? We love to party and have spent many a long hour at the Glastonbury Festival. We are quite a lot older but know how to have fun. We have been to San Antonio on Ibiza - "Ibiza Uncovered" on the TV. We spent most of our time in a bar with a lovely Scots ex-pat lady and her son, and believe me it was blue-rinse, not blue-film. San Antonio has two streets devoted to debauchery. The rest is beautiful. Danced in many bars there.

I have danced the night away in the Nut (and many other places) including two weeks ago in Magaluf (and upset nobody - got a big hug and kiss from the owner.)

Arillas isn't only for grown ups. We have met families with young kids, teenagers and everthing else there. Anyone can enjoy it. Know you agree.

Back to the thread,
Surely Jo saying "I love you" on Arillas beach is enough? It would be for Jen and me. We have done that often, and it is all we need. We are already blessed.

all the best
Phil
