Title: Flights for 2009
Post by: raff on October 03, 2008, 02:58:06 PM
Has anyone managed to getting any good deals on flights for next year?  Weve been looking, but they are very expensive.  Over £500 each at the moment, thats for July "09".  We did book November last year.  That was with XL, so thats out of the question!!! We always fly from Birmingham. Fingers crossed.

Hi Raff,

I booked last July for June 2008 through www.avro.co.uk. We are paying about £215.00 each with Monarch and that includes meals. The flight is at 6.30am and the return at 12:45pm.

Here are today's prices:-

Outward:  Mon 29 June 2009

06:30 Depart Birmingham (BHX)

11:45 Arrive Corfu (CFU)

Monarch Airlines MON1642
         Return: Mon 13 July 2009

12:45 Depart Corfu (CFU)

14:15 Arrive Birmingham (BHX)

Monarch Airlines MON1643
         £256.00 (per person)

Leamington seem to be doing OK again. I will have to get to Harbury Lane to see them at some time.

Thanks, will try avro and see what the prices are!Not holding much hope at the present. £250 I can live with.
Terry, just got back from Leamington's game.  They were home to Chesham, good win 2-0.  Eight unbeaten.

Thanks Terry. We just found June flights on that site bookable now from Bristol (our local) for £256. Shame is we have other plans and not holidays. We would have booked today otherwise. Just shows there is still a way to get to Arillas.

booked my flights with thomas cook for next year from east midlands departing 25th may at 10:30am returning 1st june at 16:40 the cost was £320 each not cheap, but as i lost £500 to XL cost did not really matter.

Just browsing the .net, I found flights with FlyThomasCook from Bristol on 19th June 2009 for two weeks at £179 return. Had it not been for our longer term plans, would have booked on the spot. Hope this helps our West Country folk...

Try looking on www.travelsupermarket.co.uk and follow through with first choosing flights, then input your requirements. We have already booked the Flythomascook.com flight from East Midlands for June throught these links, £ 230 each with the option to increase your baggage allowance. They have since gone up slightly, as have the choices from Birmingham, but nothing like the extent of £500 each. Note, as I can never seem to "travel light" this was the only way I was given the choice to increase baggage allowance without the hassle of phoning. Hope this helps.

Iknow you probably think its wrong but got a deal at thomas cook for 1st two weeks of summer schools holiday at st georges south for only 1150 for the five of us which worked out around £200 cheaper than just the flights amazing isnt it so booked but not staying at st georges coming back to arillas again for the third year running.
is this wrong or just using my head and saving money.

It's a great way to save money. Nothing wrong with that everyone will agree. And your Arillas accommodation money goes in full to the owner. Result!

I've often done that for customers if the flight only prices have been higher than an actual package. What I would say if that when you arrive at Corfu airport is to let the rep know that you are not using the apartment or transfers if applicable otherwise they may think they have lost you.Enjoy your holiday when it comes.

Check out Flightline.co.uk.  I have used this website many times & they nearly always come up with the best prices.  I've just looked at Mon 11th May from Gatwick for 1 week - price £199.  Good flight times too & flying with Monarch.

As an Arillas Expert do you [ or anyone else ] have any tips / advice about flying to Corfu in January. I know it will have to be via Athens.

Sara - I went to Arillas in April and flew to Athens on Easyjet, then a domestic flight to Corfu with Olympic. Think you can also go with Aegean. The connections weren't terribly good though but of course it might be different next year.

Title: Re: Flights for 2009

Like you raff we didn't really want to do a package deal but looking at the cost of flights from Bristol the package was almost as cheap as just the flights so I'm afraid the package has won. But at least we will get our Arillas holiday and we do know the complex we will be staying at having stayed there on our first ever holiday in Arillas.
Title: Re: Flights for 2009
Post by: justphil on November 23, 2008, 02:20:05 PM
No joy yet Raff. We could book 2 weeks at Kaloudis in July for the same money as a flight only... Do they pay the owners nothing? I rather suspect they have cottoned on to those of us who like to go independent and whacked up the prices...

Will still be looking though, and will shout if I find anything...

Once I find out how long to get to Stanstead from Leamington, the only real option could be to fly to Athens then Corfu. Also would save money.  Has anyone else got any deals?

You could try a cheap Ryan Air flight to Brindisi then a ferry to Corfu.

Hi All!
Just been round the local Thomson Travel agents. They have confirmed to me what I found on the internet. There are very few flights to Corfu, or many of the other Greek Islands scheduled for next year. There certainly are no 'bargains' expecially for 'single' travellers like myself. No options for 'cheaper' package deals for one.
There is only one flight per week from Cardiff CWL next year on fridays. The number of seats limited to 199 ish./week. The cost at Garwick is a bit cheaper, but after adding the coach costs it works out about the same.
I have now booked my seat on the May 8th. 2009 flight and feel pleased to have got it all sorted. All guaranteed by abta etc. so hopefully 'bullet proof' should anything go wrong with the airline. £50 deposit now, pay the rest at the end of February. Total £349.
Yammas,
Martin.

We Live in Shropshire and I know a lot of people woiuld not even consider the considerable journey to Gatwick, but we have flown from there on the two last occasions and we paid £116 each in May 2008 and £108 each in October 2008.  Even allowing for the £40 in petrol and the £53 for parking it worked out a lot cheaper than flying from Manchester or Birmingham which would be our other options.  In addition to that as we now have our own appartment we can stay for odd durations such as 17 days last October, as Easy jet fly every day of the week and it's great not being restricted to Monday to Monday or Saturday to Saturday.  Again I appreciate that many people are restricted to those kind of constraints by their employers but for those that are not it is an option well worth considering.  As a final point we break the journey to Gatwich half way with a stop at the Travelodage near Bicester, which is actually on the services of the M40.  If you book well in advance like me you can get a room for a paltry £19 so again well worth it.

Hi John,
Interesting post. I have booked with the local airport in Cardiff again for May 2009. Cost me £349 return. They wouldn't let me book three weeks. So I may consider Gatwick for September.

Martin.
Title: Re: Flights for 2009
Post by: justphil on November 28, 2008, 06:31:19 PM
Thanks John. We flew from Gatwick in September because even with the train fares it was just over half what the rest wanted. Not that convenient for us, and we had to sit the night out at the airport to get the first train, but made it possible for us to be in Arillas for four weeks.

EasyJet's schedule due out any day now. I'd grab the early cheap fares (fingers crossed there are some....) before demand pushes them up.

This is the e-mail I got from Nancy. Viv

I am delighted to say that CorfuEscape is now able to sell flights to its clients, via the Travel Trust Association (our licence number is U5976). With our licence we can sell all flight options to Corfu, from all departure airports & all departure dates.
We can now offer you packages with daytime flights and direct transfers to Arilas, like we did in the past. Our prices start from £339 for 7 nights and £399 for 14 nights.  If you would like us to quote you on a specific date, please email us your details (dates, number of people traveling & preferred airports) & we will get back to you with all options.
We hope to see you again next year!
Kind regards,

Nancy
