I should take mosi spray as they were rife in august i had about 20 bites and Anne had around 30 and thats with mosi off spray with deet, plug ins, and blasting the room with fly spray before we went out lol, i dread to think what we would be like if we hadn't had the spray ,probably just a big red blotch walking around arillas

I would also take anti histamine so if you get the itch you wont spoil your hoilday scratching. Definately take anti mozzie spray as i think the Enlish ones work better that the Corfu citronella ones. Just personel choice. We also tak a fly spray but we normally go in the hot summer months so maybe you wont need the full kit.

Definitely yes. My husband has had to visit our local hospital this morning because of an infected mosquito bite that he got yesterday morning. I doubt that the mossies will pack up their bags and disappear next Wednesday.

Hi eastie

Antihistamines will not stop you getting bitten, just reduce the reaction. Jen now uses an antihistamine cream if she does get bitten but thank the Lord our protection measures keep her relatively bite free. I have never been bitten, but my time in Arillas has been deeply affected by the way Jen is.

We used to think she wouldn't get bitten until early evening when we sat eating gorgeous Greek food, but her 6 bites last month were morning, afternoon and night. Use the plugins all night (you can buy them locally for 7 euros) and take Boots Jungle Strength spray and any bare skin needs to be sprayed by 7pm. If you can bear it, wear popsox and trousers out in the evening. And wearing the lovely feminine clothes spray everything that is on show.

Beware - they never give up.

Phil

All chemist and supermarkets sell anti-histamines. The doctor will only prescribe on medical grounds. You do get more for your money on prescription 28 days worth. Tesco were doing BOGOF in the summer but i dont know now.

I got six bites within 1/2 hr of being there!  Then only a couple later on in the holiday, all cleared up by the time we came home.  I used antihistamine cream for the first few days then hydracortisone cream to heal up...  Got stung by a wasp too, blinking thing was hiding on the hand rail... only 2nd time in my life have I got stung and boy did it hurt... lasted all day too.

did anyone else find the wasps a nuisance this year... really got on our nerves they did.  We thought we would be safe on the beach and they followed us there even as far as us being in the sea too, couldnt get rid of them!

The wasps were really bad in August too. My friend got stung and like you it lasted all day and she had the mark on her hand for days. They seemed to appear as soon as there was any food around!

I must admit i was well into double figures with mozzie bites this time. Must be that water making them breed. As for the wasps "yes " millions of them, luckily no stings though. As said plenty of mozzie sprays and Plug ins even in October to be safe.

We were so careful but one little b*****d stung me in the armpit through my clothes, while I was watching out for my bare skin. And it did hurt all day.

That was in San George - I knew our 6 hours out of Arillas in 4 weeks was a mistake!

For all you fellow sufferers i recommend Chemist Direct online suppliers of Loratadine non drowsy anti histamine. Galpharm do a months supply which works out at something ridiculous like 89p they are exactly the same as other named brands which would cost nearly £10 for 28 tablets!!  If you get bitten these really take the sting out and it's great for hayfever too. Get em in before next year be prepared

Cheers Nan xx

A couple of years ago I was bitten by mossys around my ankles, they came up like balloons - I ended up by having to go to the doctor - half way up the hill on right hand side past Brouklis. He gave me tablets, cream and an injection. (50 euros) I had to have both legs bandaged and looked as if I had white moon boots on. Since then I have a plug in in the room, carry antihistamine tablets, spray repellent before I go out and carry/wear a pashmina type wrap from Boots the chemist, which is impregnated with an insect repellent. Touch wood I have had one or two little bites since then but no where near as bad as the first time. Anne

The only time I got bitten during my two stays this summer was the afternoon when I first met Phil and Jen which was a scream! But then there was lashings of beer in the shady table in Thalassa and I promptly got bitten twice on my legs. This was beginning of September and both bites have left me with red scars :(

Luckily there was Royal Ionian to ease the pain 8)

Have been bitten 15 times in a week this time all itched but only one behind my knee swoll up the only thing is I think I will have to go and see the doc as I now have about 6ins of red skin round it.
Dimritis Dad distured a wasp nest while picking veg and they chased him, he got stung 5 time's luckely he had some cream in his bag and was able to apply it straight away.
Bill was stung on the forhead by a wasp on his forehead 3 times and didnt feel very well for the rest of that day. Hope your ok now Bill. Love Viv
