Hi Sue,
we booked with xl on May this year but the plane was Air Malta Charter...
Flight was fine apart from usual 2hr delay coming home...also there were no` in flight `meals served and only came round once with drinks....also no sound from any headphone socketts on the plane.don`t bother booking seats..just get there 3hrs before as indicated on ticketts..we have never pre booked seats and always get window seat and sit together...

have flown to Corfu many times and have always had delays going & coming ,no matter who we have flown with....Xl have been as good as any other airline...but now it seems that Air Malta Charter is the carrier for surplus passengers from all the tour operators....but yes !!! the AirMalta charter was basic to say the least...

We have used xl for the last 3 years with no problems. Last year the plane was airmalta, and again, no probs. We have never paid for meals when booking, but have had meals on all the flights. We haven't been delayed and we fly to and from Newcastle.

We will be flying with Air Malta again this year.  we booked our flights with XL.  We have never paid for food and always had a meal included. Always been good from us from Birmingham.  Long may it continue

We flew with Air Malta from Birmingham, last year, and had no complaints at all. Flights were on time, food was good, and the staff very friendly.

We flew Air Malta charter..From Manchester in May this year.Booked with XL who along with other carriers seem to be using this charter flight...the flight is not the regular Air malta Fleet...they are chartered by Air malta.....(a white plane with blue writing on)  we have always had a meal with XL even though we have never booked a meal!!  With Air Malta charter in May no one on the flight had a meal...there were none available...and as my previouse post on this subject..  we were only served once with drinks or sandwiches... not that it bothered us the flight itself was ok...

I am also confused by some of the replies and things must have changed.

We have flown on Air Malta chartered flights to Corfu several times in recent years (booked through XL or Airflights), up until last year, and ALWAYS had a meal included in the flight price.

Maybe it is sign of the times and the state the charter industry if they are cutting back, or more likely the travel company who chartered them are cutting back. If I remember correctly if the flight number had a letter M at the end then a meal was included. Our flight departures  were always on time and the flights including cabin staff, seats, legroom etc were good. The cooked meals were a bit basic but OK.

In fact the 2 last times we particularly chose flights which used Air Malta as we found them fine and better than some others we have been on.

On each occasion I rang the airline's Customer Services to pre-book seats, which was quite cheap, and to confirm that meals were included. If you do this make sure you indicate the flight is a Charter and the company you booked through.

We flew with Excel to Corfu in May 08 and they are not providing meals on flights this year.

We flew out at the end of May with Air Malta, booked through XL. The flight was delayed three hours and there was no food provided. Leg room was also tight compared to our return flight with Olympic Airlines.

We fly with Air Malta in september to Kos . I paid the rest of the money for the flights today and after reading this board asked the lady on the phone the question about meals being provided . Her response was they are a pay as you go flight company , ie if you want a meal you are asked at check in and have to pay extra . Think i will risk it and have another beer lol .

hi dave n anne

I hate airline food with a vengeance having done it so much. Jen and me make Compo and Norah Batty look sophisticated in that direction - we take our own. We take sandwiches sometimes - like a packed lunch at school! Feel like schoolkids but we don't get as far as the vacuum flask (or hostess trolley justlynn!)

To be excused from them by the airline feels like a conditional discharge. After all, we'll soon be eating Brouklis Bourdeto, or spit roast lamb, Thalassa Penelope or stamna or fried perch, Graziellas garlic prawns, or..... read the lists on other posts!

I just have another coffee and brandy, land and then eat what I want to.

Anyone else hate airline meals like me?
Phil

We have had some very good airline food particularly Olympic one year.  Brilliant seats, plane half empty, nice meal and dessert and Thornton chocolates to go with your coffee. Other times it is just rubbish, always a disappointment and not worth the money.  Why do they always do sausage and mash on the way back, as if you have missed it for two weeks?

Apart from the quality of airline food (sometimes not toooo bad) we find they are getting smaller and smaller over the years.  Colin calls it knife-fork-and-magnifying- glass time.

Phil, never even taken our own sandwiches, let alone all the other stuff! lol

Terry
I know you fly out before us, so could you place a post to clarify if we get a meal or not. Breakfast at the airport it could well be.

Air Malta are a scheduled carrier who operate this Corfu flight on a charter basis for the UK Tour Operators, it allows more seats to be sold without the commitment of another aircraft. Legroom is slightly better than your standard UK charter and the seats are more comfy.

On these flights Air Malta DO NOT offer in-flight meals even if you have booked them (great I know). They do have a drinks service and a choice of 3 sandwiches, 1 of which is hot (usually a bacon baguette) and all for around £3.

Hope this helps.

Cheese Wrap and Chicken Ceaser Sandwich are ther other two food options :)

Actually been on this flight recently and apart from a few punctuality issues I think they offer a good service. Corfu as an island is really pushing Air Malta.

Oh missed the part about pre-booked seats.

If you booked with anyone other than Air Malta direct (chances are you did) and have been bumped onto the Air Malta flight then all pre-booked seat requests will not be honoured, any monies paid to Thomas Cook, Monarch, etc for exit seats will need to be claimed back on return.

However, once you have been advised by your Tour Operator that your flight as been changed to the Air Malta, by all means give them a call and book your seats, they will only be to happy to oblige. At check in legroom seats are £22 of your hard earned pounds one way, stretch your legs out for 3 hours for the same price of a bottle of wine and a DVD, seems ok to me. Of course pre-booking may be cheaper and usually is.
