Reading some of my previous posts I seem to give the impression that Arillas closes around the 17th October.
This is not the case!
Brouklis stay open until the end Oct.
Eftihia stay open until "There are no more customers" as does Thallasa, whose target is at least to end October.
Asking various other Tavernas and bars today tells me that:-
"Arillas will look after all it's October customers very well indeed"
So, shops, Tavernas, Car hire etc. - If you get a good late October deal then, my motto, is "GO FOR IT" ( Don't forget the Sea & beach never closes )

If Eftihia is the last restaurant before the Kaloudis i didnt know it was opened at all. It always looked closed when we went past. When we went for a meal nobody bothered about us so we just wandered off. I always fancied a meal there as the setting looked lovely.
One year we had a last minit holiday and it was the very last week before they closed at the end of October. We went to Samos and when we left the owner was leaving almost immediately to go back to his home in Canada. I think most of the Greek Isles end their season then.
Eftihia's business has picked up very well this season and has been busier each time we've eaten there.
They did open late in the season owing to their unexpected bumper Olive crop and then, due to a family Illness, struggled through a very difficult 2 weeks.
But they bounced back and like many other Greek Tavernas, and even English eating houses, they don't get it 100% correct. However they do their very best to please.
That long walk up to the Taverna can be very daunting though, especially if you're the first 2 people in the evening who want to eat there.
( More especially if they are closed and you have to retreat with the same dignty )

Just thinking, lamb chops, followed by nutty cake!
We went into that restaurant and were completely ignored. We left eventually without being acknowledged by anybody. It is the only time I have felt really uncomfortable in Arillas and I would definitely never go in there again.
this place to me has always seemed lifeless. passed loads of times, never seen anyone there.
Not always lively, but enjoyed.
popped in this year, just chilled out and had a snack, very pleasant and a great view.
Whereabout's is this place?
Is it on the map ?
Went twice in July/Aug enjoyed it very much, quiet but very pleasent and good food.
Would go again.

I only put an apology on because I was worried I gave the wrong impression as to Arillas end of season dates and we've got an Eftihia Taverna review.
We going there tonight to meet Mythos & Metaxa ( Matt & Clare ) so I'll let you know how things progress.

Apologies if I'm veering back off topic again ....
BUT ....
we ate in the Eftihia last month, and as well as enjoying good food and wine there, we found them very friendly.

OK. Maybe I just caught them on a bad day. I take back my comment of never going there again and will try again in May '08. Is it open at lunchtime or just evenings?

i don't think there's one Taverna in Arillas that's suits everyones taste. Friends of ours visited their favourite place in Arillas 3 times during one week.
1st Time - Service good - Food Good
2nd Time- Service very very slow - Food still good.
3rd time - Service fairly good - Food not very good at all.
They will go back there next year but if you had caught 'em on a one off for the last visit and you wouldn't be very happy. - Nor would I.
Certainly try Eftihia again. It's open both lunchtime and evenings. The biggest problem, I think, is that it never looks open. Just get up those steps and go for it. If you don't enjoy then you haven't got to climb those steps again. Could be a bonus either way!

Tried Eftihia for the first time this year, after several years of looking at the steps and not walking up them, and found it very good. Food and service were both very good and, as Eggy says, the view is wirth it once you are up there. I will certainly visit again.
