Hi. Can anyone get me email addy for The Night Owl please? I`ve been several times, thoroghly enjoyed, and Linda & Nic are good hosts. Thank you.
Sorry to be nosy Lindypops! But, is it a place to stay, or eat, in Arillas? :-)
will try to get an email for Night Owl. We love it there too and were sorry to read a bad review of it earlier on the forum. We had such a relaxed and pleasant evening there last year. Can't wait to go back this year.
Hi James, you ok. It`s a little taverna on the way to Affionis. About 6 tables, but really nice to sit there on a nice afternoon.
Hi gaye. I think it`s good there. Thanks for trying for me.
Lindy P.
Will try to get to Night Owls next 3/4 days. Linda has been back to America this week but is due to return today. I need to go to Afionas by Friday so will drop in for a drink there. - Car permitting - Think my spare part is here tomorrow. ( The Car's not mine!)

Hi Lindy P.
Thank you for the clarification.
Your description of it, indicates the sort of place my wife and I would feel comfortable in.
Hopefully Eggy will be able to update us about it shortly?
Only 5 weeks before we have a chance to try out for ourselves. :-)
James you would love it. Beautiful surroundings, lovely people! We had agreat night there last year. My husband and friend took guitars and our daughter sang, joined in by Linda, Nic, their boys and one or two local people. A magical evening made all the more exciting as there were power cuts and Linda had to provide candles!
Give them my love eggy. Please tell Linda, wobbly Linda will be giving her a `phone call very soon! She`ll know. Good luck with your bodywork, lol. Bfn.
Hi JamesW. You will enjoy it and be made most welcome. It`s lovely there.
Lindy P
Nick dosn't know/remember his E-Mail and Linda is not back yet. So end of the week maybe. It;s still looking good there. Shared a beer or two and had a good natter.

Thank you for the updates gaye, Lindypops and Eggy.
We're looking forward to paying a visit. :-)
Hopefully it'll not be too full when we come ;-)
I take it the owners are Ex Pat Brits?
James
As I understand it. Nickos is Greek but lived in America for a while where he met his wife Linda. Night Owls has been up and running for about 3 years now.
They have a mixed clientele, local greeks, a few Germans that live aroiund Afionas and of course us Brits, either living here or on holiday.
Fortunately not all at the same time!
The menu is fairly basic, certainly not a "6 pager", but enough to choose something to your fancy.
On Saturday evenings Nick does a special of lamb on spit or Pork roll etc but he doesn't always seem sure, too far in advance, of what it will be. He's not decided for Saturday yet but then it is only Tuesday.
It's a nice place to be, but a bit of a trek from Arillas. Of course those forum members who have walked Agious Stephanos would find it a doddle. Linda is known to offer people an end of evening lift back to Arillas, as Lindy P will confirm, but only if they are not too busy.
Regards

Thank you Eggy for the in-depth informative post.
No language problem there then ;-)
In our experience, a LARGE menu generally means bad news for us. They cannot cope with it in the kitchen.
The times we have seen one outside a place, then when we go in we're handed the "Real Menu". Or it's "Chips With Everything" style.
Also, places with menus in multiple languages we know to avoid.
We like the sensible small selection of local recipe choices for omnivores.
In Tunisia, my wife was invited into the kitchen to choose. Unfortunately she was indecently molested by the waiters and other staff, despite being respectably attired and behaved. We left hastily after an exchange of words. We have declined such offers since.
Hopefully we'll be able to walk the distance, albeit slowly. I'll take a torch as well. ;-)
James, if you like a smallish menu, enjoy fish and like to see what you are about to eat, you must go to Vavillas Fish Restaurant
Hi gaye.
My wife is very interested in fish restaurants so Vavilas (being less than half the distance to Night Owls) is a place she would put on her list.
Perhaps the lack of sea view, or vista would be offset by other attributes? :-)
We had a place like this in Crete last October, right on the harbour, nice sunset............
We love the Vavilas... you might think its looks a bit dark and dreary under the vines but it is in fact very cosy and lovely, nothing fancy. It has a good reputation, they have brilliant food and the price is very good... we had 3 starters, 3 main meals = 1 souvlaki (I think Mike had that) and two sea bream, they also had a choice of desserts, cheesecake, gateaux and baklava with a large carafe of wine it came to 31 euros. If they dont have the fish platter there is always sea bream! LOL
Hi James agree with gaygo, Vivalis is a fantastic little taverna. Very greek and informal. If you do enjoy fish it is an absolute must. Highly recommend the swordfish it is the BEST EVER. We had 2, 3 course meals, 2 large jugs of home made red wine (delicious) and it was 26 euros!
Thanks eggy. I bet you did, lol. Can you do me a favour please oh sweet one? Can you email me sometime, when you`re free? Cheers.
Hi James. You`ll enjoy it there. And yes, Linda/Nick have dropped me off if they can. Also, a very kind gentleman took us up the hill!! Wonder who that was, lol. The meze there is lovely, and after that, Linda will help you decide. I went in to ask about the octopus, had a taste, and sterted to put stuff away, naughty that I am. I can`t wait to go again. Give it a try, you`ll enjoy.
Lindy P
Went there late morning to introduce Sandy & Joyce,as future near neighbours, to Nick.
Linda's not back till tomorrow, arrives Athens in morning then on to Corfu. I should probably have their E-Mail by Monday.
Will send e-mail when free.
How does that song go???
"Busy doing nothing , working the whole day through,"
"Trying to find lots of things not to do"

Thanks eggy. No worries, lol. What`s the code, I can`t remember? I`ve got the rest of the number. Enjoy this evening!
Lindy P - 0030 from England.

Thank you. Couldn`t recall. I`ll see you all soon, hard luck ,lol. Dy`know, I need this break, to annoy you, lol. Only joking. Speak soon. Bfn.
Thank you all for the info re Vivalis.
It certainly does seem even more appealing to us.
Another case of 'lack of vista being made up for, by the cosiness, ambiance, quality, and attractive price'. :-)
Not forgetting the Night Owl is further up the hill. (had to mention Night Owl to keep in the thread) ;-)
{Fills in more 'Tick Boxes'} :-)
Im small enough to fit in your hand luggage Lindy, so I can annoy Neill as well. please. Viv
I love to read comments from people who KNOW, not those whom I usually class as <haven't been there don't like it> brigade members. Great to hear there is a good fish restaurant for when Joan and I arrive on Sept 18. I have just had a large piece of my innards removed and have been eating a lot of fish. So much so that I now like it more than ever. We will be there a fortnight so obviously will take all the advice into account and try every eaterie (awful word). Staying at Kaloudis. Incidentally, where is the accent on Arilla?
Hi Brian.
If you are referring the the Vavilas Taverna, (which is actually in the 'Night Owl' thread) it is a fair walk from the Kaloudis Village on the way to Night Owl, but you'll work up an appetite.
We're to reside at the far end of the village from the beach.
I'm also a light diner after my stay in hospital for surgery.
My wife loves seafood, she is on a 'seefood diet' (see food and eat it) ;-)

viv, of course chuckyegg. We could gang up on him, and talk his ears off, lol.
Back to Night Owls.
( Haven't found anyone yet to talk the ears of me!)
Someone recently, on a PM, said I should buy a donkey so "I could talk the ears off it!)
The Greek version of R.S.P.C.A. said I',m not allowed to buy a donkey. Obvious reasons
Back to Night Owls.
A very nice evening, last night, for us. Mrs Egg eats very little in the evening so settled for "Village Sausage in Pita" - A starter really.
I had a rather nice, large and bbq'd pork chop with chips. Chips my choice. I could have had it with salad but we've been given so much veg fom our neighbours I think I am beginning to look like a...... Aubergine springs to mind.
We do not waste anything we're given and have been eating in much more than usual.
Anyway - Lovely evening. Add 2 bottles of Retsina to the bill and 14.5 euros.
Sat with Nick the last hour we were there and had a good 'ole rabbit. Nothing changes!.
(i do like a good 'ole rabbit!)
Linda back this evening.
It's a lovely place. Basic menu but suits us very much.
You want stiffado, kleftiko then stay in Arillas.
Good honest people doing their very best. We love that.
Interesting that, when we were there, a family of asstd age groups, were tucking away quite nicely. Overheard a phone conversation, as yer do, and they said "We're at Night Owls as recommended on the forum" - Hope they had a good time
Also interesting that a German lady came in and ordered the Kalamari. When it was served just the size of the plate frightened me. I would have struggled to eat it all.
( And she had a salad as well!!!!!!! ) - And she ate it all - Should've got her autograph.
A nice place to be in. - Suits us, but take it as you find it.

Hey Eggy, me n viv would talk you to bits, lol. Don`t tell viv, but boy can she talk! Only jokin` viv. Night Owl has to be tried n enjoyed. What is Village sausage like? Y ou can`t really describe taste, but hazard a go.
Love reading your postings Neil, always entertaining and LOL... Sue
We walked past the Night Owl. I would love to have gone there but after walking there once during our stay really didnt fancy doing it twice. The hill up there is a killer! Going down is ok though.
Ha Lindypops Eggy already knows that but he competes well. lol. Viv
He`s in training viv,lol.
Lindy P.
"He's in training" - Wot's all this 'ole rubbish?
You will be pleased to know that Linda is now back at Night Owls.
Nickos looked very releived this afternoon.
Linda sends her best to you & "The man that fell in the hedge on the way home"
Her E-Mail is Afionas@aol.com

Alll I can tell you about the village sausage is:- Wendy loves in in a pitta bread with its twinge of salad.
Thanks Eggy. I`ll email Linda soon, to give her a warning I`m on me way, lol. Bfn.
For regular visitors, who make that strenuos walk, to Night Owl.
It's having a re-vamp with a larger seating area inside and the kitchen re-done.
The outside is also having a face lift.

Can`t wait to see the Owl.
I lie the ceiling and enjoyed face spotting evern tough I only reconised 2. Will go and have a drink there in May. Your photo's aint that bad Eggs. Viv
We went to Night Owl on Friday and a very good evening it was too !!
Apart from Hilary Papeite-Smith and a few locals immersed in their card game we were the only others there.
Who is Hillary P, I hear people say? - She gets involved in the monthly Corfoit and writes a few bits n bobs. I wanted to ask why the American, on the Taverna Reviews, has had a prawn pilaff and found it "The best ever he'd tasted" for the last 5 years.
Does this guy never get fed up with it? - Anyway ,Wegg wouldn't let me ask.
Anyone who has read the Corfiot will know where I'm coming from.
As per usual, anywhere this time of year, once again a very limited "Winter out of Arillas Menu" but again very good.
I love my pork chop n chips there and Wegg loves the Greek sausage in pitta bread.
Plus a couple of Retsinas and Greek coffe, plus the company of Linda who had time to sit and chat and all for e14.
A place to visit in the summer I think but. once again, like Mon Amour don't expect a large menu and take what they have on offer for the evening.
( They don't charge for the pleasant company )
Cheers
Negg
Lovely, aren`t you glad you found it Eggy? I`m thre in my dreams, lol.
