Title: Half Board?
Post by: Rugbymad on July 29, 2007, 08:55:54 PM
Is there any half board accomodation in Arillas?
The reason of asking is that i had my mum in law round earlier and showed her this site and she has fallen in love with the idea of holidaying in Arillas but would prefer a half board option, any ideas folks? thanks in advance.

Can you not convince your mum in law the benefits of trying a few different Tavernas?

Hi Rugby. The Marvel will do everything to ensure you have a good holiday. I`ve not stayed there, but they are  so good, and Sophia is a great cook.

Half the fun is trying out different restaurants I think, although it is nice to stay in, just have a drink and meal where you are staying and not have to worry about dressing up and making the choice.  We did that a couple of times at the Bardis Sun, poppy cooked a lovely omelette and salad and we went out later for cocktails and pancakes at Helens for desert.

I did fancy getting a pitta kebab (which are fantastic from the kebab place) taking it on the beach with a bottle of wine/beer which would have made a nice change.

Trying the different tavernas is a must for me in Greece.  In Spain i prefer to go half board as its not quite the same going in to the restaurants there.

Last year a friend of mine went to St Georges South (i think) and said they had put a big hotel up. It was  Fully inclusive.  The resort was really quiet as people were not venturing outside the hotel.  You have to feel sorry for the locals as they cannot compete with Fully inclusive.

I would definately not go for fully inclusive option anywhere in Greece as i enjoy wondering around in the evenings trying to decide where to eat and i would sooner put my money in to the locals pockets!!

I thoroughly agree, i love going out in Greece and sampling all the different restaurants, because no 2 are the same.

In Mexico we're all inclusive but we are still going to sample some of the restaurants in the town, think id go mad cooped up in the hotel for a whole week without venturing out anywhere!

That would be just like Butlins but warmer, to me!!!  I like the freedom of eating where we want, when we want and trying all the tavernas.  My mum goes half board to Kefalonia and she says they never try the greek food and everyone sits at the same table for their week or two week stay!  Each to their own but not my cup of tea!  I can't get through to her that greek food is amazing and the best meals I've ever had have been on greek islands!  Have started to ponder what I'll have first and where we'll go - must get some work done instead!

Cheryl
Not many days left to ponder eh?
Bet you don't have anything with salad cream!

Never liked the idea of half board. Even when we stayed at Eleni-Stella Olga did us room price only as we didn't like the idea of breakfast either.
Each to their own I suppose.

We have done all inclusive on a number of occasions, once to Turkey - never again!  Brussel sprouts with grated cheese on I ask you...and rehashed for breakfast!  Majorca was ok with lots of choice as was Lanzarote but there again it was difficult to find really authentic Spanish food when we were there anyway.  They had a Spanish night in Magaluf and it was all decorated in the Spanish Colours.. we queued up and had a thimble full of sherry... then headed for the buffet.  I died laughing... nothing Spanish in sight..  I just had to have Steak and Kidney Pie just for the laugh.  I would only do half board in those places but Greece is the best going to the tavernas just for the variety, its not worth doing anything else.

Going off at a tangent here, but why do people want a full English when they go away? Had a lovely brekkie @ Brouklis, and Anna did me some lovely bread/toms and bacon. I never hardly eat bacon here, but just sometimes when away.

We never ate full english on our holidays, always done the croissants and yoghurt thing until we came to Arillas.  I think the early morning walks work up our apetites and we just fancied it.  We dont do it every day, perhaps twice over the 2 weeks, its far too fattening and then we always eat a meal in the evenings which is more than enough...sometimes there is just too much food around.

Agree with everyone, went to Malta with parents and it was half board, the food was horrible, it was always the day before's left over turned into something else!  Never again.  Part of the holiday for me is wondering round the village, trying different tavernas, although we did eat at Vivalis 3 times, haha.  When we go back in September we are going to try different ones that we missed first time.  What is it like at Grizallis? think thats what it's called next to Sea Breeze.

Sharon we've not eaten there but there is a review about it on here somewhere.  From what I can remember, the food was fine but toilets a bit of an issue!
