Title: HOW SAFE FOR LONE FEMALE
Post by: sharonF on June 26, 2007, 03:11:00 PM
Hi,  it looks like i will be travelling alone to Arillas, my partner and i have split up.  I will be staying at Leonidas, how safe is it on my own do you think?

Arillas is one of the safest places I know and I am sure you will be fine. I have been on my own several times. However, Leonidas is quite a long walk out of the village so if you are planning on raving it up at the Malibu until the early hours you may feel safer walking home with someone else. Everyone is always very friendly so I am sure you will meet up with people. When will you be there? I am sure someone from the Forum will be there the same time as you and would look out for you.

PS - Sharon, have you thought about changing your booking and bringing a friend with you? It usually only costs about £20 to amend the name on a booking.....just a thought. Whatever, I am sure you will welcome the therapy of Arillas, as many of us have done over the years. Whenever my friend , Joyce, and I have problems our first thought is always that we need to be in Arillas....right now....this minute!

Hello Sharon,

I have travelled all over Greece alone and I have always felt safe. Arillas especially is a lovely village and not a hectic resort.

Hope you have a lovely holiday! :)

Hi Sharon and welcome to the forum,

Firstly if i were travelling to Arillas on my own i wouldnt have any doubts whatsoever, its a very safe resort, easy to make friends and lots of nice places to eat and drink.

Secondly i couldnt think of a nicer place to go to if id just split up with someone, it will be just what the doctor ordered, all that relaxation, sun, sea, sand and super cocktails!!

If you still dont feel 100% about travelling alone then maybe think about Sandy's suggestion, maybe a girlfriend would love the chance to travel with you??

Let us know when youre going and then people will soon let you know if theyre in Arillas at the same time, you will have some ready made friends :-) !

Either way you will have a fab time!

Our Daughter stayed in Arillas 2 years ago from May to October.  She had a great time, no problems at all.  Phoned her one day and she was just returning home from the night before, this was about 11am over there.  Had met other young ones in Coconut and that was it friends for life.  I admit she did know the village from going over with us and knew a few of the locals but she lvoed it.  She would even walk back from Coconut Bar in the early hours, yes there was still people about but the most that was said to her was good night.  She is going back in July with a friends this time.

YOU WILL LOVE IT.

Hello Sharon,

I won't be going until end of August and shame about your friend being unable to join you. But I am sure you will have an excellent time relaxing and getting away from it all :)

and at night there are always people around:D

Hi Sharon

My brother (Sam) and I will be heading out to Arillas for the week starting 7 July.  See my other thread about kitesurfing!  If you see us trying to kitesurf come over and say hi.  Otherwise we may cross tracks in the bars at some point.

I'm sure you'll have a great time and can only agree with the posts on here already, Corfu is very safe and Arillas is probably one of the safest places on Corfu.

Hope you have a great time.

Rob

Sharon, when we were there last year in July and October, I was actually surprised by how people were there on their own - we met at least eight people just at our apartments so don't worry, you won't be the only one.  There are loads of trips you can go on and like everyone else has said, everyone is so friendly you'll be made welcome everywhere.

I'll probably be in the same situation as yourself in a couple of years - I'm divorced and my daughter is going away to Uni this September and my son will be 16 in December so won't want to come away with mum for much longer.  I would have no hesitation in going to Arillas on my own and can't say that about anywhere else I've been.

Chill, it will be ace for you and just think, no nagging bloke moaning about stuff - unless you meet one there that is!

I think you'll be very safe in Arillas. - Dimitris is married now!!.
And...... also, as a bonus, he keeps Noufri & Nickos busy every evening in Brouklis.
( Jesting - Honest!! )
Be aware though that some people will, very kindly, want to take you under their wing.
Ok some nights but if you just want to sit in the evening, have a good meal & a book then .......... ?? I think that's the only problem you'll have.

Hi Sharon,

Myself, my partner and smiley baby boy are going to Arillas on the 9th of July too so if we bump into each other feel free to join us for a drink. Not as exciting as kitesurfing I know but we all love a drink and a giggle (especially the baby)!!!

We were in Arillas for the first time last year with our 17 year old daughter, and we left her on her own a few times and were completely comfortable with that.

I found that strange to say ! You wouldn't think it was such a worry to leave a young adult, but the dangers are different for teenage girls. We are coming back this year, although Hannah is bringing a friend. But we wouldn't hesitate to leave her "home alone" so to speak. There are plenty of lovely locals watching out for her !

To prove the point I dressed up as a woman one evening and wasn't accosted at all.
( Maybe the mustache put them off )

I think I saw you that evening. I don't think it was the mustache but the hairy legs that protruding from a mini skirt that did it .
