The link was working properly earlier on this morning when it was posted on the Agni Forum.  If I remember correctly hand-baggage allowance has been increased to 10kg, but a levy of £6 will be charged for each item of 'hold' luggage which will have the weight allowance increased to 25kgs.

As I have said I'm not too sure about all the details, but another member who had read all the conditions thinks that the new rules are for budget flights only not for flight only charters or package deals.  LOL maybe that was a mistake and Thomsonfly have suspended the page in order to rectify it!!

I've just booked a flight only with Thomsonfly for September. The new baggage charges did apply.

Oh dear BBB looks like your other half will have to cut back on HIS baggage allowance ;-)

Here is the working link...

So what degree do you need to work that one out then?
Looks to me it could be yet another way to squeeze a little more cash out of the holday maker.
If I read it correctly, whether I have 20 or 25kg in the suitcase it will cost me money.
So, if that's the case, then why not make up to 25kilos with cigarettes.
Ah! I forgot. We're not allowed to sell them on. - But if you did, a pound a pack profit would certainly ease the pain. ( How many packs of 200 Ciggies to a kilo I wonder?)
What a shame we're all honest people on the Forum!!
I'm interested to see the final outcome of this post.

I have just booked flights with Thomsonfly - only flights, no accommodation - and can explain the baggage situation.
If you want to check in any baggage, you can buy 1 item, up to 20kgs, for £5 each way.  This will also allow you hand luggage of 5kg giving you a total of 25kg for no extra cost.  Therefore, if your check-in baggage is only 15kg, you can take 10kg on board with you, but no more.
To add 5kg to your check in baggage (25kg plus 5kg hand baggage), the price goes up to £34.50, ie 5kg costs you £24.50 on a return flight.  Daylight robbery!!
Hope you can make sense of my explanation.  I think if you are travelling on a package holiday, your baggage allowance will be given on the ticket and is included in the price.

Thanks for that Fiona. It's daylight robbery (unless its a night flight ofcourse) better to know now rather then later. Viv

Thanks Fiona
So obviously the price of the ticket has dropped to balance the books and to benefit those travelling light.?
--- And, if your scales at home don't agree with the Airport scales??? i wonder if they allow a 5% discrepancy.

I'm sure that Mavis & Robin had to pay an excess when they recently flew with Excel this year
I think they were 3kg over. They got charged but the people before them, also over, did not. If Mavis picks this thread up she may clarify this for us.

When you see the price of the ticket itself (£30 out and £70 in, making it £100) then you add airport/fuel taxes, insurance, guaranteed seats together, meals, the baggage costs and the credit card charge you could end up with an additional £150 to pay. As I declined almost everything that would cost money, I ended up paying about £3 more for the Thomson tickets than I had for the XL flights back in December.  Only problem is we have to fly from Manchester instead of small and cuddley East Midlands!

When we flew with XL in June we had a 20kg baggage allowance each and we weighed in at 39.7kg - how's that for fortuity?!!  As usual, mine was over (I had an orange "heavy" label attached, and Roy was under.  Yes, he takes less than me, but I'm a woman so I'm allowed!!  Incidentally, coming back we were exactly the same, but I have to confess we left quite a lot of stuff in Arillas!

So am i right in thinking that if you book a package holiday its all included??  Ive never flown long haul before so i dont need any more added stress when i arrive at the airport haha!

Just a word of warning..we flew thomas cooke in May 2006, or allowance was ok going out, (15kg  each & 5kg cabin allowance) coming back although we left towels ,flip flops and other items with some friends in Arillas..we were over limit gooing home and incurred a 85 euro`s excess..... needless to say we now go for the 20kg allowance  and are carefull not top overload going home....In contrast in May we flew with first choice and were 8kg over going out but apart from a `heavy lable `on one suitcase we did not get charged... 8)

Hey, been off this week poorly sick but back now and raring to go......not!!!

Baggage allowance a subject hated by passengers and airlines alike. First and most importantly on a package holiday your allowance is always included so we can all relax. There is the option to but more kgs at a cheaper rate but this is on top of your allowance not instead of.

On our flight only's we have been charging for baggage for the past 12 months but its not as stealthy as Thomsonfly's. Our deal is 15kgs for free and £5 extra for 20kgs but this is not mandatory. What I do like is that on our website this box is already ticked so we ASSUME you want to pay that charge, if you don't you have to untick the box.

A personal peeve of yours and mine by the looks of things is the £1.99 bargain airfare that turns into £70 when you come to pay. The good news is we have quite rightly had our wrists slapped and from July the price you see is the price you pay, this applies to all airlines.

Unfortunately when your baggage is weighed you are at the mercy of the airport staff and their mood, official line is you get +3kgs gratis, after that you pay excess from your original limit.

Thanks for that Joe.  Pleased to hear that the airlines have all got to fall into line.  It's currently a mammoth task booking a flight, checking and unchecking boxes for things you do and don't want.  I was horrified when I had to pay extra for check-in baggage.  Just can't wait to have a rented place in Arillas so I don't have to take so much stuff backwards and forwards.  The +3kgs bit was interesting - does this just apply to TC or all the airlines?

I would have flown with Thomas Cook (honest!), but their flight prices were considerably more than Thomson (and my original XL flight, the price of which I was keen not to exceed!!).
