It was chucking it down first thing but has dryed up now.  Its a bit windy and the sky looks the same colour that is on the webcam.

It also rained most of the day yesterday!  A typical winters day.  Glad i was tucked up indoors all day.

Just noticed I have got a medal!

That's good news, Rugbymad - we could certainly do with better by the end of the week - every time I've gone out since Thursday, it's been raining!  Friday night I got drenched and had to change everything!

I shouldn't say this, but it looks cloudy out in Arillas, I'm happy 'cause I've been there and I've had my good weather!

No I don't mean that really, Viv is still out there, I hope the weather hasn't changed for the worst.

At least the sun is trying to come out in the UK now!

Just looked at the webcam pictures from the last hour, it look like the heavens opened in Arillas not that long ago, you can see the road is dry in one of the pics then it goes darker as its got wet!

Smiffy is going to have a huge shock when she gets back today -  the weather here has been horrible at Gatwick - where she lands today... I hope she doesnt get too depressed when she sees it.  What on earth is going on with all this rain?  Its a typical bank holiday monday. :(

Blondegirl

I think smiffy would get wet in either place judging by the webcam photos in Arillas. Looks very wild and wet today. Just hope it doesn't last too long for those who are already there.

Here in London it has been raining non stop for the past 24 hours and looks like it will never end :(

And yes, Smiffy will be cold and freezing in Gatwick with this chilly wind from the north.
Title: Re: Weather Today
Post by: Sandy x on May 29, 2007, 01:38:58 AM
I landed at Gatwick at 6.30 this evening and it was 7 degrees. It rained most of the morning in Arillas and remained overcast but overall, the weather in the last week has been a lot better than was predicted. There were huge storms in Corfu town last Thursday which Arillas seemed to miss, but other than today and a bit of cloud yesterday afternoon, it has been very pleasanrt. A lot of the flights were delayed today and the poor people going to Glasgow ended up spending the night in hotels iin Corfu Town. Due to weather, one flight was diverted to Athens and another to Brindisi. We were lucky -by the time we went the weather had improved.

Met Smiffy in Brouklis on Wednesday where we both ate spit roasted lamb - I'm sure she'll give a full report and I noticed she was back there last night so did you have the lamb again Smiffy?

Just seen the temperature for today.... 87 degrees.... it's a scorcher!  I dont know whether I can stand it that hot when we go in 8 days time...  I think I can make an exception though, will just have to drink more, swim more, sleep more, drink, swim, sleep  - - oh it could get so boring... LOL
Title: Re: Weather Today
Post by: Shuey on June 18, 2007, 11:46:10 AM
It will be hot when you go Sue.  If you get too hot just put your head in the shade when sunbathing.  I normally have a couple of hours trying to get my face brown then put my head in the shade.

I cannot sunbathe like i used to - it must be an age thing ;).

You forgot to mention food!!
Title: Re: Weather Today
Post by: blondegirl on June 18, 2007, 01:20:32 PM
I didnt forget to mention food! I try not to think of it.. LOL .... Its just that I dont feel so hungry when its so hot but then I get a whiff of the food with the herbs and olive oil and I cant wait to try everything!

I think its an age thing (for me too)... I always say I am not going to spend too much time in the sun then you cant get me out of it... but I have put more weight on from last year so will feel the heat more I think this time. Anyway,  whatever, it will be loads more better being there than here in Surrey at the moment, its pouring with rain AGAIN!

Our summers seem to be shorter and shorter now, and when they do come they are very intense.  Where on earth has the sun got to in the UK, its rained so much lately.  I always feel sorry for people who have booked their holidays in the UK and then it rains all the time.. it is so depressing as there are some lovely places to visit in the UK and much of it depends on the weather. And those poor people in the North with all the flooding, it happens every year somewhere that there are flash floods and causes misery its very sad.
Title: Re: Weather Today
Post by: Shuey on June 18, 2007, 01:41:37 PM
I seem to eat more in the summer than I do in the winter and even more on holiday.  Luckily i have got a high metabolism.

I know what you mean about the weather it is so depressing and I feel so sorry for people who holiday in the UK, especially as it takes longer to get anywhere driving than just a couple of hours on the plane to sunny Corfu!

I thought we were supposed to have a good summer this year - or was it just April. ;)
Title: Re: Weather Today
Post by: Smiffypink on June 18, 2007, 04:46:11 PM
'The summer months' dont apply anymore, the weather in June has been terrible, as you said Sarah the weather in April was so hot when we normally get 'April showers' and now June is raining all the time.

But you also have to remember Wimbledon is upon us, and it always rains when Wimbledon is on!

The weather in Arillas looks fab doesnt it, not long now Sue!

Title: Re: Weather Today
Post by: Smiffypink on June 19, 2007, 12:24:00 PM
What you have to remember is, the weather temp given on this site is the temperature at Corfu airport, it is always that bit more hotter in Arillas, when we were there it was raining in Corfu Town and absolutely boiling in Arillas, so add a fair few degrees on top for what it will be like in Arillas.

As Sarah said, if you sit by the palm trees at The Bardis then you do get a slight breeze and also some shade if required.  But in that heat if youre down the beach do get an umbrella, dont want anyone getting sunstroke, horrible!
Title: Re: Weather Today
Post by: justlynn on June 19, 2007, 12:34:07 PM
Good advice about the sunstroke, Smiffy.  I think I got a touch of that when I was in my teens and didn't know better, and that was on the Isle of Wight!  :)

Really fed up with the weather today.  We have friends over tonight, farewell dinner before they leave to emigrate to Brisbane in two weeks, we leave for Arillas Monday.. so this is our last night with them.  I thought I would do a Greek meal for them (he is Greek Cypriot and a chef too), sit in the garden, long table with all the family round it, lights etc. etc. wine etc. etc. and its raining!!!! Typical!

Hi Blondegirl

Thats a shame that seems like a really nice farewell party.  It was forecast to rain in Norwich today but it hasn't happened yet.  The sun keeps popping in and out.

I hope you get something sorted for tonight - im sure you will ;)

Have a great evening and enjoy your holiday.

Wall to wall blue skies in Arillas for the last two weeks and here I am back in the UK looking at wall to wall dreary grey.  Hey ho, roll on 2009 for more than two weeks blue skies at a time!

I think she's in for a cracker of a time especially weather wise. I was in Corfu Town this morning & around 11:30 it must have been at least 30 deg.
(35.4 outside now as I type) No sign of rain the next few days either.
I never thought I would wish for a bit of rain. Thinking of alternative ways how to water the Tomatoes. ( May have to do it when it's dark though!)

My sister lives in Australia and they keep a large bucket in the shower (bit of a nuisance but a good way of recycling water) and collect all the drips and use it in the garden. they do tend to have bigger, posher showers out there though.
Title: Re: Weather Today
Post by: Eggy on June 25, 2007, 04:29:37 PM
Good Idea Sandy.
Because the water pressure fluctuates here quite a bit and,so we're told, can be off for up to 3/4 days, we've just had a 2000 litre tank/pump installed.
Also, and I didn't know this at the time, we are on a water meter. So alternative ways to water the garden is a must. We've also invested in a plastic bowl for the kitchen sink and utility room. It's amazing the water wastage you get fom just washing hands or cup etc.  Don't take water for granted Folks - Times are changing.
Cheers

Yes, I think we should all keep an eye on how much water we use wherever we are.  Having said that, if you saw the water swilling around in Sheffield tonight (the roads are still grid-locked as I write at 11pm due to severe flooding all over the city) you would never use the word shortage!!
What a change from our two wonderfully hot and rain free weeks in Arillas and what a shock to the system!!

Ive just been looking at the pictures in the paper of the helicopter rescues from roofs of houses in Sheffield and surrounding counties, the flooding is really bad up North, they also said that we can expect another 13 days of rain up until the 8th July and if it continues to mid July then that will mean the whole summer will be a washout, oh joy!!

Im here, up in south yorkshire, got caught up in all the floods.  Can not get to work today (shame) all the routes, whichever I take, are flooded.
The M1 is closed off at junction 31 to 34.  The meadowhall shopping mall is two feet under water.  Sheffield is in a real state, unbelievable really.

Roll on Friday for some dry weather.

Morning all
Just been informed that I CAN get into work today (shucks) and apparently there is a load of work to catch up on and as I am only there today and tomorrow I think I will be leaving a lot of my work behind.

The M1 is still closed because of the rist of Ulley Dam bursting.  This is causing absolute chaos on the smaller roads as everyone is being diverted.  Sheffield is still in a real state and because they are pumping water out of the Ulley Reservoir, smaller villages in sheffield are going deeper under water, they just can't win.

I have just about packed now, just the last minute bits to put in.

Smiffy, if the roads to the airport are flooded then I will be swimming my way there, nothing is going to stop me now!
