Title: Carnival
Post by: Joe on February 19, 2007, 12:59:24 PM
Just had a text from Corfu telling me that my Mum and Paul are off to the Carnival today, can't get through now to find out what's going on but it sounds like quite a big event, to save me running up my Mum's phone bill anymore does anyone have any idea what this celebration is for, it sounds fun?

Well my friend in Athens emailed me last week and was saying they had a big celebration to do with the New Year, they seem to celebrate it a bit later than us, maybe its something to do with that??

Doh! I actually went to this last year when I helped me Mum move out at the start of March, it must be a little earlier this time. It was great fun watching the procession go through Avliotes, the satire about bird flu was especially amusing, it felt like the whole of Corfu came to the north west of the island, the parked cars trailed all the way dowm to Sidari, hard to believe they have been out there a year already.

To anyone wondering about moving out to Corfu my Mum and Paul have not regretted it for a second and they are both in better health, there only disappointment is that they didn't do it sooner.

Come to think of it shortly after Clean Monday there was a festival in Corfu Town that involved everyone smashing plates from balconies, I remember my Mum telling me how chaotic and funny it was, that's something I would love to see.
