Does anyone know if The Galini is still with Thomas Cook?
I did see some holidays advertised with them for the Galini.
Yes it is but I always have trouble finding it, I think we may sell it on behalf of another operator but for the life of me I can't find any online links to it.
Thanks b/g & Joe. I shall carry on the search.
I have had a quick look too but cant find it with anyone. I do know a family who have booked their holiday this year at the Galini. They booked it last year so it might well have been with TC but I have seen it myself on the TC website recently. I wonder what could have happened to it. We stayed there last year through TC. Very strange!
We stayed the year before in Ag. Gordios and tried to get back there last year, we booked through Manos but when we tried again it wasnt there and we have asked around and tried to book independently but not had any joy as yet. It was very frustrating. I think they might have used this particular accommodation as an extra brochure offer when all the 'regular accommodation is booked". I cant imagine that happening with the Galini, but who knows with Costas as he was such a miserable bloke anything could happen.

Thats one of my favourite posts ever :-)
I have just looked through all our latest brochures and its not in any of them, i have also done an accomodation search for Galini and the only matches on our database were in Crete, not sure whats going on, I'll pop down to Staff Travel later and see if they have any record. Thomas Cook have, The Mirage & Marvellous exclusively and some rooms in the Atki (£169 for a week outside of Jul/Aug if you book on the website), perhaps we have reduced capacity a little but I would have thought 3 properties would be enough for one operator.
Thanks for the replies, very helpful. Glasses now intact again! I was sitting here, and plop, the flamin` lens dropped out!
Thomas Cook no longer sells holidays to the Galini which is a shame.
Brenda and John booked through TC for this year, but they booked last year. What happens when that happens and they dont use the Tour Operator you originally booked it through?
All previous bookings will usually be honoured, if for any reason there is an unforseen problem the tour operator would get in touch and offer either an alternative or a refund. The Galini most likely will be full of Thomas Cook customers this year from previous bookings but from the latest brochures onwards we aren't selling any new holidays there, it may have gone independant, passed over to another company or it may even being sold to German or Italian holidaymakers now.
No need to worry their holiday will still be going ahead if its been booked already.
Thats sounds ok. I would have gone into a panic. I am pleased that John and Brenda will still be able to stay there.
I have another question not related to this Joe. We have booked with E.Jet to go to Germany in March and now we have this extra tax to pay. Will we have to pay it or was it originally included in the booking? We booked 9 Jan. 07. I think I will have to phone them as they havent sent me an email.
The other thing was that we booked for Arillas through Corfu Escape last September for this June. Will we have to pay the extra tax as well for this booking? If so, who should let us know? I think Corfu Escape use Monarch.
Sorry to go off course with thread.
Thanks
Sue

Yes the only problem would be if there is something physically wrong with the accomodation, if that's the case, which I'm sure its not then alternative accomodation will be offered.

From what I have heard the low cost / no frills carriers are going to charge the extra when you check in, they will literally hold you to ranson for the extra money, it's not their fault they simply can't afford to waive the cost, again this is only what I have been told so things may change but in all honesty I doubt it.

Good news, if the holiday has already been booked and paid for then the tour operators will absorb the cost (booking package holidays isn't all bad then), if the holiday has yet to be booked or paid in full then I'm afraid you will have to pay this extra airport tax. Once again lets tax the airlines that create only 5% of the world's carbon emissions, don't believe it for a second, its all to line the governments pockets.
Thank you Joe. TC have phoned today to let us know that as far as they are aware all bookings to the Galini will be honoured this year. This was good news as we would have been disappointed not to return to arillas. Thanks to you as well Sue for showing concern for us.
best wishes to all Brenda
Ive had a look this morning and found this site www.corfuxenos.gr/e/galini-apts.htm hope this of help if you google galini arillas corfu you will find more
Ok, thanks for all the info.
That was a great link Steve. The photos are very good and show just what it is like. We had a great holiday last year there. It did make me laugh tho that it said the meals were all inclusive! Not when we were there they werent.
We havent paid in full yet for our holiday (just the deposit) so no doubt we will have to pay the tax when we do that then.
Thanks for your help Joe
Sue
Hi Brenda and John
Any news on your holiday booking yet? Peter and Evie apparently had their holiday at the Galini cancelled.
Sue
Hi Sue, had a message from Peter and Evie explaining their plight. So glad they managed to get other accomodation. Spoke to TC at the beginning of the week and they still say that our booking is solid but if there are any changes they will let us know. hope your not snowed in. We had a couple of days of snow and then beautiful sunny days but its raining tonight.
Hope you're both keeping well. Brenda n John
Glad Peter and Evie have got re booked.. do you know where and when? Is it the same time as us?
We had some snow but it only last about a day, now its raining here in Surrey.
Mike and I are both well thanks. Sue x
Hi to all that stayed at the Galini with us last year. Does anyone know why they are no longer with T C.
probably too many complaints, the motorbike workshop was noisy,as was the poor little dog tied up outside, barking all night long !
WE had two great holidays there last year. Think the people staying there made it for us. Yes the dog was a pain but I invested in a pair of ear plugs and then couldnt hear a thing. The garage we hardly heard at all.

yes maybe a pair of earplugs would've helped, the galini was just a little too far from the village centre for me,the accomodation was fine,as were kostas' mother & father- really friendly people aside from not speaking much english, but i did learn a few greek phrases to pass the time of day with them,it was an ok place to base your holiday from,i did have a laugh or two with kostas
Ear plugs are a must for me on holiday as any little noisr keeps me awake. We are booked for the Bardis sun studios with corfu escapes this year. Much nearer to the centre of the village.
Hi Lisa, as you can see from some of the posts from Brenda and John their holiday seems safe for the moment at the Galini, but Evie and Peters was cancelled, I wonder why that was. As much as I enjoyed staying at the Galini it was a bit far from the beach, nice and close to the shop and bakery though! It wouldnt be far on a nice cool day but when its scorching hot it was just a tad too much for us thats why we booked the Bardis as its nearer the beach and the restaurants etc.
Mike needs ear plugs for my snoring!! The dog got on my nerves a bit opposite the Galini, then the frogs joined in but after a couple of days you get adjusted to it. We didnt hear any noise from the garage, but we are used to planes taking off from Gatwick in the background and also trains through to London etc. We have a lot of urban noise here so are accustomed to trying to sleep with some noise.
Looking forward to our holiday very much! Still cant shift the pounds though..

Hi to all that stayed at the Galini with us last year. Does anyone know why they are no longer with T C.
We have three other properties in Arillas, The Mirage and Marvellous which are exclusive and some rooms in the Atki, due to increased competition within the industry all Tour Operators are consolidating their product, for the size of Arillas it was deemed 3 properties were enough, no reflection on the Galini but the other 3 were more favourably positioned. Don't take this as a sign that the tourist industry in Corfu is in danger, true it is declining but not as fast as other areas such as Spain. In reducing capacity it increases demand for what is already available, once the revenue stream increases, which it will, expansion will take place. If the summer becomes very busy there are provision for extra flights and we still have the option on the Galini. Not Arillas I know but we have also just taken on the brand new Mythos Apartments on the outskirts of San Stef (only about 5-10 minutes away). I never trust the brochure so I sent my Mum and she says they are lovely. Only mentioned it, as San Stef tends to be cheaper than Arillas so if anybody is counting the pennies yet still wants to get close to Arillas this may help.
I can't remember that dog last year Sue, but then i do sleep well. Can't seem to remember much commotion from the garage either. I like walking so the Galini's location was fine.It gave you an excuse to have a walk around the circuit on the way to the restaurants and bars. There was a nice atmosphere at the Galini as well.
It was great wasnt it? Everyone did whatever they wanted to do during the day and might join the others for their last nightcap drinks on the decking before bed (the men liked the footie didnt they, what will they do this year? Apparently at the Bardis they have a pool table and I saw a darts board in a photo, so no doubt that will be the 'sport' for two weeks). We had a lovely two weeks at the Galini. I want to try and learn to swim a bit more, I wonder if Evie will be in Arillas at the same time, we could try again together, we did have a laugh! We have got some lovely memories from our holiday in Arillas. My friend Lynda is coming this year so she might be up for teaching me if I can do it without laughing with her.
The dog has been there for at least 4years that i know of.As we spent most of the day on the beach the garage did not bother us nor did the little dog other than i had to rescue it off the road. The Galini was with Manos when we stayed there. The walk into town and down to the beach did us good and help to keep the lbs off.
How long a walk is it into town from The Galini??
Smiffy, I would say it was a relaxing stroll of 10 minutes, but a 'smart' walk of 5 mins...if you know what I mean by that...but then again I like walking. We did not find the walk from the Galini an issue, it gave me an excuse to have a look at the few houses and all the little gardens! I just love that little house/cottage on the right as you walk towards Brouklis...the one with all the geraniums tumbling over the fence. :-) A real little gem of a house.
Oh not too far then, next time we go to Arillas after this May i think we'll try a different place, just to get a different feel of the place.
I also like walking, Brett isnt so keen, i would like to do the walk to Dionysys but i just know ill be fighting a losing battle with him, his words will be 'im on holiday, why would i want to walk for an hour in the heat to get a beer'!! I can see his point i suppose but i would like to do it, you never know stranger things have happened, he might just well shock me and agree to it!!
Hi Smiffy,
It is nice to try different places to stay and sometimes it is just nice to see Arillas from a different angle!
We have stayed in Annas, The Mathraki, Thomas Bungalows, Tria Adelphia and the Galini. All of them apart from Thomas's were apartment complexes with pool, so staying at Thomas's was so different. They don't have a pool but the garden more than makes up for it, lets face it the beach is not far and there are so many pools that anyone can use. Thomas and his wife are very relaxed and friendly, they do not live on site, but they pop down now and again. I would recommend this accommodation for anyone looking for a quiet 'real greek feel' base, yet not too far from whats going on.
Yep I know what you mean about the walk up to Dionysys, it's one of these things that you promise to do tomorrow...then the next day and before you know it your holidays finished and you still never made it!
How about going on an organised walk with http://www.lemonhouse.com/porto-timoni.html I'm sure it would be interesting and fun, the boat transfer back is the bribe for Brett ;-) Who knows he may enjoy the walk enough to do it again by yourselves and spending time at Dionysis.
Eileenxx
Ooh thats sounds like he might go for that, if he knows he can get a boat back, i shall have a look in a min.
We will definitely go there one way or another, i really want to appreciate that view!
Hi. to all last years gallini gang, being the fine upstanding couple that we are, we thought that it was only fair to warn you,[ it gives you plenty of time to cancel] that we are coming to the bardis sun on 25 June. If you cannot find any where else to stay,we will see you for a drink in the pool bar.
Counting the days thank goodness Sue has one of those ticker things. How do you set them up.
Look forward to seeing you all.
Peter and Evie
I definately cant wait to get there now if you are both booked the same time as us! Brilliant! What time is your arrival in Corfu. I think ours is about 4.30 p.m on the 25th June.
Hope you are both well. Sue x

That house belongs to Mikele and Elena. We met them a few times as we passed everyday and had coffee and cold drinks with them, he also kept giving us apricots which was very sweet of Mikele, he used to ask us to sit on his verandah for a drink when we walked back up the hill of an evening. We used to see him with his boat too, he is over 80 and goes fishing everyday. His photo was on the gallery photos holding a fish, but he has gone now for some reason. He does live in Athens though and only stays in Arillas as it gets warmer for Elena, we found that out despite him speaking very little English and Elena doesnt speak any. I have written to them to let them know we are visiting Arillas again and will pop in and see them. They were very sweet and hospitable and we would like to see them again, we also met their daughter too, but I dont know whether she lives in Arillas. It is a very pretty little bungalow and they work hard too with their garden.
Hi Blondegirl,
How lovely to get a little background about Fairytale cottage :-)
I've seen the couple many times, but on some visits I could see that the house was locked up and empty. I always wondered where they got to...that solves that little mystery!
Eileenxx
That is great news about evie and peter. There will be six of the Galini gang at the Bardis in June then. Don't remember a dart board at the Bardis but you can play volley ball not forgetting the swimming lessons.
I only saw a dart board on the corfu escape photo, but it might be old, and my eyesight isnt good. (My dad sees better than me and he only has one eye, bless him).
Anyway, it should be fun, dont know about volley ball though! Could put me and Evie down the deep end, should be worth watching!!!
Haha what are you like Sue, im sure Mike would rescue you Baywatch style if you got in any trouble!!
Ha Ha! You must be joking! If I looked like a Baywatch babe he might...
Hi all. Is the little house with geraniums on the right, on the way down the hill? It always looks lovely. I noticed one time last year it seemed empty. I hope they are ok.
Yeah that'll be the one Lindypops, what a great show of flowers. I wonder if the owners know how much pleasure they bring to people.
Eileenx
stayed at the galini a few times it usually takes about 6 hours to reach the beach i`ll explain, turn right out of galini past the bakery to the rainbow bar have a few then next door to the marvel spiros runs away when he sees me.then over the road to captains more drinks and a bite then down to the brouklis god bless him by this time i`m rolling into the coconut bar nice bloke perry and then to see george on the beach for a pancake and arm wrestle.thats the wifes day sorted.
Haha i get the feeling its not too much trouble for you taking 6 hours to get to the beach :-D !!
I`d say about 10-15 mins smiffy. That is unless you`re powered by something we should know about re the next to last post! Mind boggles, lol. What to say. Never mind, enjoy it all when your there.
smiffy. I`ve stayed at Gallini, and it was fab.
the last time at the galini oct 2006 costas was closed for the season, found him in the bar with his black&decker, he was ripping up the decking area over the pool to make the bar bigger, hope he finishes for may this year.
Hi. I`ve had a good holiday at Gallini. Very laid back place, and very hospitable. I would go back. The gardens are lovely, as are the family there. If anyone requires more info please im me.
So Costa is doing the chainsaw massacre then at the Galini, His decking was great, bit small but very nice. I hope he gets it done in time for when it opens again this year. Brenda and John and family will be there so they will enjoy that. We had a really good time there too...we had a lot of laughs, the other visitors were lovely. We did have one family above who were a tad noisy coming in bashing about and wearing hob nailed boots (sounded like it on the marble floor) about 4.00 a.m. and having a huge row, they were young and would have preferred Kavos or Sidari I think. They were a bit disappointed that Arillas was quiet and small.
The Gallini was one of the best places that we have stayed at. We had a really lovely time there. Best soup ever!
We had a lovely holiday there last June and are hoping to recreate it again this year at the Bardis Sun. Have spent a lot of time at the Bardis over the years but have never stayed there. We are really looking forward to it. Six weeks today I think.
We enjoyed the Galini too last year when Lisa and Steve were there. Didnt try the soup, we did stay for the BBQ Greek evening which wasnt up to much. The barmaid and Costas children did the greek dancing and the BBQ wasnt good either. I would recommend giving that a miss! Its much better in one of the tavernas. Costas would need to "raise his game" a bit to make sure people stayed there for that evening as it was a bit of a rip off.
See you in 7 weeks Lisa!
