We have had 4 great holidays in Arillis and thoroughly enjoy the "easy" atmosphere of this special place ( and it's people). We are coming out again next week ,and I am interested in how accessible the "nudee beach" is at the moment.2 years ago at this time of year ,the beach was broad enough to play beach volley-ball on,last year we had to lie on the pebbles! It appears from the web-cam of the last few days that the wind has been "light" ,so here's hoping we can get" our kit off" in comfort!
Oh My! We saw people wading through the sea to get to it this June, dont know what it is like now obviously. We did see people on the beach though (we were high up on the cliffs - minus binoculars you would be pleased to know) so there must be some sand there.
Access was easy over the last 2 weeks. Water was coming up only below the knees. Wonderful.
Today I saw that our beach got suddenly wider overnight,! now there is only a Small spot that you have to walk in to the water in order to access the nudie beach
(http://www.wishingwell.gr/webcamarchive2006/SEPTEMBER/05/Image3.jpg)l
The size of our sandy beach can vary from days to days depending of the directing of the wind and the waves.
The sand IS a liquid element but with a different dynamic and it moves with the stream of the water and mood of the weather...
Hope to see you all soon,
Dimitris
Lovely views of the beach Dimitrius! Wish I was there and the weather report looks great too!
Ohh that's good to know :)
We'll be heading over on the 25th and were wondering about the nudee beach :D
In July we got washed off completely - waves right up to the cliff - ABANDON BEACH !! lol
Just back from our week, great weather up until Saturday (16th. Sept) when we had a thunder storm in the afternoon. The "nudee beach" became dificult to access as the waves grew and we "escaped" just as the last of the sand disappeared! On Sunday afternoon the sun returned but the waves were crashing in so there was no chance of access. It does show how volatile the beach is which is a pity.Has anyone found an Arillas type Greek resort ( i.e. not to comercialized) with a good nude beach within comfortible walking distance, and no climbing over cliffs ( my missus refuses to scale mountains to get her kit off!!!!)
Hi Crawsue;
For information on nude beaches covering all the Greek Islands try the website Captain Barefoot.
Hope this helps
John
Ooer! the nudist beach is getting wider today which isnt much good if its raining today! Wot a shame!
At least your cloths wouldnt get wet, so if its still warm why worry. ;-) Viv
he he he!!!
When i was there in July/August the beach was easy to get to, but a couple of days i couldnt get round the corner, i discovered that people were just gettin their kit off "this side" of the nudy beach, by that i mean they didnt go thru the water and the waves crashing against them, and NOBODY on the other side turned a hair, no one was interested at all, how good is that, this is what i love about Arillas its soooo laid back, have fun.
Alan
Thanks Allen,
I have to confess it i s a bit of a treat to go down the end of the beach and get me kit off. The weather forcast looks good so by Monday Lucnch it will be Lunch or beach............... I think beach lets have some waves to rejuvenate the body parts
thanks for the posting
wacko
We've just returned from a week in Arillas with the start of the week being engulfed by spectacular storms ! I will have to try and post some of the pics/videos I got.
Needless to say, the entirety of the nudee beach was underwater, as was a lot of the regular beach up until a few days ago. It's slowly being reclaimed.
There were a few people who waded round the nudee beach, braving the waves and bags overhead to go and lie on the stones (there was no sand at all) - but that wasn't exactly what I'd call fun. As mentioned before, the next cove along was adopted as a temporary nudee beach and no one batted an eyelid, quite content for it to happen. So all was well. Except I burned me bum :( :P
Oh dear! Glad you had a great time - welcome back!
C

I'm interested to know what access is like at the moment. Last weekend there was plenty of sand, but it was difficult to get to. The sand around the rocks seemed to have been eroded a bit, making a sort of watery pit. The best option was to go out quite a way to find a fairly shallow path. I ended up going right down to the other end of he beach. It is great down there if you want complete peace and quiet.
Nick
had to wade around the point, water about 3 foot deep, but at the moment the nudee beach is being turned into a gaint ASHTRAY why do some smokers not take their rubbish away with them its disgusting
Harold,I accept your point of view, however as it is very early in the season have you not considered that your so called ASHTRAY may have been washed upon the shore.
Or are you having a pop at the locals for smoking as they stroll along the beach in anticipation of the tourists.
Ang
I must admit, I agree with Harold. Iv noticed more and more cigarette ends on that end of the beach. It really is pathetic that people cant use the bins that are provided if they have to indulge in this habit.
I agree, but of course there are no bins at that end of the beach. People could always take something with them to place cigarette ends in. Every day last year I had to clear a spot before I sat down - not much worse than finding you'rel ying on someone's old cigarettes. But at least the donut man doesn't usually venture down that end.....
These were fresh and sadly from German people,Viv did see some of them as she was taking a photo of the beach sculpture and i said to her why do they do it
I had a ciggy as I walked on the beach, stubed it out on a rock and put it in a bag and took it back to the rubbish bin, it didnt take much effort and wasn't heavy, ;-) so why cant other people do it. Viv.
i agree with Viv and in fact they would be lighter than when you come on the beach as most has gone up in smoke
As a smoker I'm sorry to say that I've never thought about this aspect before. I will never ever leave a ciggie end on the beach again - will make sure I always have a sandwich bag with me in future. For all the ones I've left in the past - I'm sorry!
My goodness, an apologetic smoker!! Now thats a refereshing change!! good for you!
Sorry to generalise but its usually everybody else's fault but the smokers when anyone ever dares to complain!!
I think you should be given a medal!
Hi Joe, Lets agree to differ on that one. Viv
Ok, Viv, I suppose I had that one coming! Certainly didnt mean to offend anybody, sorry if I did. Just hate being subjected to other people's smoke thats all. Hopefully that will become a thing of the past come July! I think I'm worse since I had children and worry about what they have to breath in.
Was'nt the original post about access is this what they call hijacking a thread?now if we want a debate on smoking, smokers and the uk ban then we should start another topic, moving on I cant wait to walk through the surf to get to the end of the beach may even have a skinny dip as well.
Ang
For all you nudee beach worshippers....the beach is FANTASTIC this year. Really wide, loads of sand and I didn't notice too many ciggie ends. You still have to wade round the rock but it wasn't nearly as treacherous as last year. And there was hardly anybody there - I have never seen it so empty in May so fingers crossed it will stay like that for August. The wind got up a bit on Sunday and it poured with rain on Monday (I got back last night) so the sea came right up but hopefully when the sun returns it will be back to normal. Paradise.....
Excellent news :D
Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread.
Feel confident having read these posts that the beach will be just as good as we remember it on our last visit in 2004.
Why have we stayed away so long? Don't know the answer to that one, but am looking forward to Sunday 2nd June 2007 when we can once more reacquaint ourselves with wonderful Arillas.
How long before I get a medal for posting (this is my very first one).
patrickjohn
Bet it won't be long before your an Arillas Addict
My wife and I enjoyed our visit to Arillas this year. Got back on 16th June 2007 after a wonderful two weeks at the Horizon.
The access to the beach seemed to vary each day. Some days when the sea was rough the wade was almost waist high, but on calm days knee high. Most people heading for the nude beach were disrobing near the dodgy cliff just before the headland that juts out and carrying mats & brollies etc at chest height.
It pays to carefully study the water before wading through because sometimes the shallow area is near the rockface, and sometimes two or three yards out.
I guess that you need to wade for about thirty or forty yards.
Its definately worth the bother though and I suppose to some extent it keeps the beach 'exclusive' or perhaps just deters the nosy types.
Pat
Just rememberd, I meant to tell you all when we got back. While we were on the beach, we noticed a chap walking up and down by himself quite a lot eventually he came over and introduced himself. His name was Mike Childs and he writes for the B.N.A. they have a book called Best Bare Beeches and are doing a new one. He asked us if we thought Arillas needed any more advertising at home. I thought Pete was going to jump down his throat he said No so quickly. Anyway he had what he called good and bad news for us which was that t will not be included in this years but he felt he would have to include it in furture editions to come. I really don't know what to think about that, yes it's a real accolade to the beach but how many people will it attract. I hope not to many. Viv
That's very interesting. I think the publication he is writing must be the one found at http://barebeaches.com/ (http://barebeaches.com/)
I think the appeal of the wonderful Arillas beach is partly because it is not usually listed in internet guides to nude beaches and is therefore only known to those of us who've found Arillas for ourselves and stumbled upon it. That's how my wife and I found it.
We were staying in Sidari, hired a car, and toured the north of Corfu. Finding Arillas towards the end of our stay was great.
We enjoyed the beach and sea, and then cooled off at the Horizon pool before tucking into one of their great meals, and then watching the sun go down in wonderful colours over the Ionian Sea.
What could be more wonderful?
As a result we booked to stay at the Horizon on our next trip to Corfu, and were not disappointed with the hospitality at the Horizon.
Pat
Boo to BNP, however we found the Arillas nudie beach via the website on "Cap'n barefoot" naturists guide to the greek islands. It did state however it was not an official nude beach but used by holiday makers and the locals for as long 30 years +. We do agree with you that it is a testament to Arillas and it's people that BNP want to mention the beach and the village/ town but not good for us selfish folk who love it as it is, a tranquil place to go and not a Sidari (which is a nice place to visit - ONLY). The best of it is i am not a naturist only half a one but my husband is a naturist (full one). Happy holidays to all and especially us, be there in 6 days - hoorah.
Have a happy holiday jester. I think I`ve mentioned Cap`n Barefoot in a past post somewhere. We`ve been back home 2 weeks I think, and had 1 day without rain!
While we were there I think a "nudee" must have got lost. I had heard a chap was totally nude and walking up the beach AWAY from the nudee beach. Perhaps they are extending it ;)
Yea well if the whole beach was turned nudie, nobody would have to buy bikinas or trunks more room in the case for an extra bottle. ;-) viv
Here, Here Vivian. Well my hubby would be glad at a little less weight in the suitcase If i took your advice and bought less swimwear but alas I am not as brave as some. Maybe this year I will summon up some courage (probably after a few bottles of plonk that you suggested) and throw caution to the wind. Arillas in 3 more sleeps hoorah
Double Dare You, once you have relaxed with it your never want to wear swimwear again and wonder what all the fuss was about especially in Arillas.
Thanks Vivian for the nudge will see what happens!! I realise it is me that is slightly hung up not sure why? nobody else is (inner demons possibly at work!) won't be posting for a while we fly tonight to Arillas. chat soon
Go for it Jester....have a great holiday.....
Last week you could walk to the nudee beach without getting your feet wet, no wading through waist deep water it was great. Quite busy though.
Wonderful beach! We have been going there for four years now. Only the size changes, the people are always friendly and it is one of the most relaxing places that you find for a holiday.
Back next year...
Hello, all you lucky people who are still to visit Arillas this year. We have been going for 10 years and never tire of the restfulness of the beach. We were there June/July this year and I think the nudist beach was definately busier, than it had been previous years, but still great. As always we met some really nice people, who like us are not naturists but just enjoy the freedom of not having to sunbath in a wet sandy cossy! Beach access has not really changed over all of the years we have been going, in that it always changes depending on the weather! I think it is good that the cliff formation form a natural barrier so when the sea is a bit on the rough side only the most ardent nudee fans strive to get to the best side of the beach. We are off on a family holiday to Menorca in September but I am not looking so forward to it as I do Arillas, but hey never mind, because we are already booked to go to to Arillas for two weeks in July 08 and September 08, can't wait!
Hi all - kcarol - Fancy - ten years of blissful visits to Arillas. Sounds really great. Think you will enjoy Menorca in September even if its not your favourite place.
Am off to Kos (Tingaki) in September, but hope to return to Arillas before too long. There is a bare beach at Tingaki, but its not as attractive as our favourite one at Arillas.
I think that the thing I got most enjoyment from this year at Arillas was watching people cover themselves in the green mud and then parade up and down the beach. They made quite a sight!
Best wishes
PJ
I hope you enjoy Kos PatrickJohn - Tingaki is very nice.
I didn't realise there was a nuddee beach when I went.
You will have to let us know what you think of Tingaki beach, sounds like it will be nice. We are told there is a nudist beach at Santo Thomas which is where we are staying in Menorca, but I don't think we will be visting it with the family! I just hope all the white lines will have faded by the time we get to Arillas next year.
Our favourite bar is Ammos, so if anyone is going there soon please give Karen and David's love to Leo, Rula, Sophie, and Dimitrius.
I mentioned in another part of the "forum" that we had a week in Santo Thomas--Menorca,in June.Nudee beach is excellent and a very easy stroll from the centre of the resort,no wading, climbing etc.It is about 1km. long so excellent for long "nudee"strolls to break the monotony of swimming,sun-bathing and i-pods !!!!! Only problem is that Santo Thomas although very clean and well presented,HAS NO SOUL !!!No quiet little tavernas--it's all tied into the hotels, and very bland.Pity because the beach is probably the best nudee beach in the Western Med,UNLESS THAT IS,SOMEONE OUT THERE KNOWS BETTER !! We love Arrillas dearly, but feel if we go more than once a year we will spoil it for ourselves, therefore ,allways looking for a "Spanish Arrillas" ----2 weeks this Monday--can't wait!
Many thanks Crawsue for the information about Santo Thomas. Must put that on my little list of possibles.
Two weeks anticipation of tavelling to Arillas - a great prospect. Hope you have a fabulous time.
PJ
Amazing, other people commute between Santo Tomas and Arillas! We have been doing it for years. They both have advantages and disadvantages. With us, being able to fly from Leeds to Menorca is a great big plus. Yes, Santo Tomas is very clean and full of 5 star hotels but Binigaus beach is something out of this world. A very long seriously relaxed beach!
Arillas is different but very friendly. Difficult to choose between the two. Worst thing for us is having to fly from Manchester.
Boff1
You can fly from Leeds & Bradford with Thompsons on a Friday.
Mick.
Hi Patrickjohn
I am sure you will enjoy Tingaki the beach is fantastic , we never made it to the nudee beach when we went as our daughter had a friend with her . I think the nudee beach is by the salt lake ? you will have to let us know if you don't mind also what the weather is like in sept , we was going to go this year but are going to kefalonia instead . Have a good time.
Yammas
Dave n Anne
Hi Dave n Anne
Thanks for the information. Am hoping September will still be warm and sunny. Will let you know when we get back.
Have been watching Rick Stein tonight touring Corfu and sampling the cooking including my favourite - stiffado. He ended up on Saint Spiridon beach looking over to Albania. Have swum on that beach out to the little island. It evoked great memories of wonderful Corfu.
Roll on the holidays!
Best wishes
PJ
Have just arrived home from another fantastic two weeks in Arillas and can assure you all that the beach is better than ever this year. For the first time in about two years, you don't have to wade round the rock and in fact the beach is about 10 feet wide there this year. I didn't find it crowded, despite it being August, and usually had the beach virtually to myslef from 10.30 to about 2.30. By 4pm, crowds of Germans and Italians arrive, but I would say less than in previous years - but maybe it just seems that way because the beach is so wide this year.
I'll post more later when I've had some sleep.....may even tell you about Nellie's knickers!
Welcome home Sandy! It's a wise idea to catch up on your sleep 'cos you've gotta lot of catching up to do on the forum...wait until you see the naughties we have been up to..... ;-)
Eileenxxx
P.S how did I know that just somehow you would know all about Nellie and the missing knickers!!!????
PPS...can't wait to hear from you....x
come on Sandy, you must have caught up on your sleep by now. Viv
Hi Crawsue, just a little bit of info for you. We have been to Arillas 8 times and love it to bits but we think we have found an Arillas in Spain, beach is wonderful. Pepes bar is great and very friendly and right on the beach. We like it so much we have bought an apartment there. Its in a very Spanish village called Mar de Cristal, only 2 hour flights and all the cheap airlines fly there too. If you would like to see a bit about it go to our website - www.opits.co.uk (http://www.opits.co.uk) We have two friends who are naturists and they rave about the nudist beaches in the area. Let me know what you think Anne.
Anne, sorry for the delay in responding to your post,I know your area fairly well from some Golf holidays with "the boys" so we are very interested.I have a golfing pal who has just bought in a place called PINAR about 20km up the coast,we are going to visit him this autumn,so will get to your area for a look-see! Just back from a week in Arillas, nudee beach access was unbelievable, and beach now about 20metres wide! But what has happened to the weather? A constant N/W cold wind and two half days of rain were not what the forcasters told us to expect,in fact ,Dimitris had on his winter gear one evening,it was so chilly.Could this be the reason that so many places seem to be struggling in Arillas? This year the Arillas Inn is closed,as are at least two other places we have used in the past, and if you look around ,closely, there are quite a few of the older type smaller apartments obviously not in use--it must be a worry to the locals.I don't want a Kavos, but when major sea-front places shut, that must signal some problems. Also with the exception of Brouklis, everywhere else seemed much quieter--including the beach. Dida at the Marina ,seems busy enough though, but what has happened to all the boat guys?Sorry about the rant, just a bit frustrated with the weather, which as you can tell, took the edge off our much anticipated week.
Access just walk alone the beach about 20yds of sand where you normally have to paddle or in my case wade. Fantastic. Viv
Was any other forum user there last week (i.e. September 24 - 30, 2007)? I noticed that the rocky outcrop that last year (and previous years) we had to wade around had gone and sunbeds were encroaching towards the nudy beach. One of the great thing about Arillas was that we weren't on top of each other, but if this becomes a trend us nudy enthusiasts will be shoved right down the far end :-(
No we wont, if the beds pass the rock so what it dosn't have to mean we have to move down, the beach is for everybody. The first time we went it was like it is now we didnt have to paddle then and it was ok, and im sure the water will be back soon, just hope it's not to deep. Im only diddy. Viv
I'm not being funny BUT, if I was to chance a week in Arillas in late Sept, i would be very surprised to find scorching hot weather. Surely people who take advantage of this cheaper time appreciate that this is exactly why you pay less? Ie: Less predictable weather..This isn't Tenerife after all!
i personally don't care about the weather. I WOULD stay in arillas raining all year round.
YES,
Me too riggers, especially if a storm abounded.
wouldn't it be great lindypops, at least we would be somewhere we luv..
Yes in deede. Love it.
I'm not sure how this trail started but if it was in response to my posting on 5/10/2007, you havn't read it properly. Otherwise accept my apologies.
Regarding the weather that week, the sun shone most of the time and will go back next year around the same time :-)
May 2008....I know you will all be dying to know what the beach is like this year and I can safely report.....FANTASTIC. I only managed to get down there once as I was working but.....access is fine - no wading round the rocks. The beach itself is really wide at that end and clean. The sea was beautiful....bit chilly but wonderful all the same.
Thanks for the update Sandy. Can't wait to spread my towel...
Would say welcome home, but somehow, I reckon you've just left it....
love
Phil
I have also been asked from Mavis and Robin to take a picture from the access to this part of our beach ,
I must say I have been busy these days but today I escaped and took some pictures,
As you can see the access is better than other years.!
Hi to everyone, sorry I don't get on here much these days. I wanted to thank Dimitris and Sandy x for information on the access to Nudee beach!! Only 4 weeks to go!!! and can't wait, but we are getting lovely weather here in Preston just now, a chance to 'condition' the skin and body to the sun and heat of Corfu!!
All best wishes to you all and anyone there when we are (06-20June), we usually eat at Brouklis and if you see us please say 'hello'. I'm the one with the flowery walking stick - I can't get rid of it - tried surgery again this year but to no avail! At least it's not expanded to a walking frame, yet - that would be fun when the sea was high!!
Mavis and Robin
Hi Mave, lovely to here from you and that things are improving. The access on 17th as below, therewas aman there that pushes his wife in her wheelchair on to the beach every year and had got all the way up with no problems at all this time. Viv

Sorry wrong one, will put right one on later if I can sort it out. Viv
Here you go, I hope.
Thank you so much for the picture Vivian. It looks like it's going to be nice and easy! Won't be long now!! So little time, so much to do!
Thanks again, Mavis and Robin
Hello Friends,
Dave and I will be back again on Friday for the 11th year and staying for two glorious weeks, so Marilyn and Alan, Linda and Graham, Trevor and Sue if you are around we hope to see you again!
