Title: 100ml liquid rules
Post by: turkeyfoot on December 10, 2023, 10:49:00 AM
Hi
From June 2024 air passengers will be allowed to keep liquid containers in their hand luggage instead of putting them in a small plastic bag for security checks in 100ml bottles, as per the Governments deadline to introduce the new technology.
3D baggage scanners will be rolled out across UK airports. Lap tops and other electronic devices will also be allowed to remain in your hand luggage.
The  scanners are able to take high-resolution 3D images of bags allowing staff to check passenger's bags from every angle.

Some airports are already using the new system. Teesside International Airport (MME) became one of  the first in the UK to increase the 100ml limit to 2lts earlier this year. When I last used City Airport the new system was in use.

At least we will not be delayed as passengers who since 2006 still cannot understand the current rules.

Have not read anything about  EU airports that  have/will introduce the same systems for our return trips.

Hi
Report from City Airport's chief operating officer:

With the new scanners able to process up to 550 trays an hour each lane, passengers are moving through the airport more quickly.

"We are getting 30% more passengers through [an hour]," says FitzGerald. "It's much less stressful from a passenger point of view. The information that's provided to the security officer is much more enhanced so the threat detection has improved significantly."

Hi
Re my post regarding the 100ml rule at airports other than the UK

It seems that each country, other than the EU, have their own regulations on this matter.

The EU  seems to be adhering to the 100ml rule
See 'luggage restrictions' at www.europa.eu

Hi
Some airports are now reported as saying they will not meet the deadline to introduce the new scanners
Manchester and Stansted claim it may take to2025. Heathrow also reported as saying it cannot confirm it will be ready

The new scanners were running in March when we traveled from Manchester to Barbados. It made things so much easier.
Looks like Leeds won't be ready later this month though.

Hi all we flew out from Leeds on 16th of May and they had 2 of the new luggage  and body scanners up and running, but we're still using one of the old ones if long queues built up. Very quick and efficient. Well impressed!!!!

Birmingham Airports a nightmare at the minute!  Flew to Portugal 2 weeks ago and it was bad and a mate of mine was there 2 days later and it was horrendous..... he was lining up outside the building!

Hi
At all EU airports from 1 September 2024, individual liquid containers must revert to a maximum 100ml    including those using next-generation scanners – and must be removed from hand luggage for scanning. There is no time frame setting out when the rule will be relaxed.

Still does not bode well for UK airports see previous post dated July 2nd re important info  at UK airports

Hi

Good news. It is  reported the use of the 3D scanners will restart in June 2025 meaning there will again be  a 2 lt liquid allowance for hand luggage.

Air passengers will be allowed to keep liquid containers in their hand luggage instead of putting them in a small plastic bag for security checks in 100ml bottles.

UK Airports, that were using the new 3d scanners,  reverted back to the 100ml rule  Sunday June 9th 2024

No info on EU aiports which also reverted back to the 100ml rule Sept 1st 2024

Hi

Still not heard about the 100ml liquid rule being removed in the UK in June this year as reported by various Simon Calder type sources.

I have been asking around again and have been told it is unlikely to be abolished anytime soon.

Although was told that Gatwick, Endinburg, Birmingham and Luton allow liquids in your hand luggage but only uo to 100ml !!!!

Hi
Got the info from the Sunday Mail travel reporter when I asked for an update on this issue last Sunday

Checked Birminghamairport.co.uk and it says ''do not put liquids in plastic bags please leave them loose in your hand luggage. There is no limit to how many 100ml containers you can carry''

Flew from Stansted on Monday and although that airport was not listed in the article they allowed you to leave under 100ml in your hand luggage but leave them in a plastic bag. Also allow you to leave laptops in hand luggage

So worth checking direct with the airports for up to date information
