Geoff
Guess its not just the Brits who couldn't organise a p-up in a brewery.
Hi
Latest info is that the Entry/Exit Systems (EES) will be introduced prior to ETIAS.
ETIAS will start a few months later
Still no actual dates
Geoff
Hi
Looks as though ETIAS and EES are now delayed to 2025. Again no date
Geoff
Hi
Reported in the press today is that EES will start in Autumn 2024.
Also states that ETIAS about 6 months later.
The official EU reports still state ETIAS will start in June 2025 with EES starting earlier is that.
Geoff
Hi
A reminder of EES
https://travel-europe.europa.eu/ees_en . Official EU website
https://www.etiasvisa.com/etias-news/ees-europe-etias-visa. Not an official EU site
Hi
For those that travel to Romania and Bulgeria, from March 2024, both countries will become part of the Schengen area and border controls will be lifted at air and sea borders.
Discussions on a further decision to lift controls at land borders will continue in 2024.
The EU Council will decide on this matter and is expected to be taken within a reasonable time frame.

Hi
Yet another delay. EES due to start in October 2024 has again been delayed. Now expected to be 2025 (no date)
This is likely to delay ETIAS as this is (currently) due to start after ESS is introduced
Delay reported to be due to the development of an app to smooth the process.
Keep collecting passport stamps
Geoff
Hi
The EES start date is being reported by the BBC and various news outlets on line is now Oct 6th.
Also reorted that for a 6 month transition period the EU is expected to allow checks to be reduced in some circumstances if queues build up.
Apparently one reason for the delay was requested by the French, concerned as to travel delays affecting their Olympics
The official EES website still says TBC.
If the ETIAS introduction follows 6 months later as previously reported it will start in April 2025.
The official website says introduction is first half of 2025
Geoff
Hi
Lots of news on BBC regarding start date of EES now being Nov/10/24. They quote the EU home affairs commissioner.
No date is shown on the official EU EES website as of now
Apparently the commissioner also said ETIAS will be in place by May half term 2025. Again nothing on the official EU website.
Geoff
If people hadn't have voted for Brexit, we wouldn't have had this problem, and the long queues that will go with it. Sorry, but it had to be said. Bloody Brexit. Grrrrrrrrrr
Terry , I can agree with you on that!
Have you just dangled a fishing hook over me?

Sorry Terry, but this has to be said.EES and ETIAS have nothing to do with Brexit. Both these programmes relate to people entering the Schengen Zone
from non Schengen Zone countries. With their open border policy, Brussels want to know who is travelling around from country to country.
When we were in the EU the UK did not sign up to their open border policy, so we were never members of the Schengen Zone.
So even if we were still EU members we would have had to comply with the proposed security rules
A common misconception Terry
Geoff
Sorry Geoff, read the following.
"Would etias be needed if uk was still a EU member state?"
No, if the UK were still a member of the EU, UK citizens would not need an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) to travel within the EU. ETIAS is required for travelers from visa-exempt third countries, which the UK became after Brexit12. As an EU member state, UK citizens would have had the right to free movement within the EU, eliminating the need for such travel authorizations3.
Whilst we are on this subject, can you tell me what you have gained by voting for Brexit?
You have complained about waiting times to see a doctor. What has happened to the "We send the EU £350 million a week, let's fund our NHS instead"
Hi Terry
Without going into Brexit debates on the forum again we will have to differ.
The UK was never in the Schengen Zone, even as an EU member, and as such would have had to comply with the security rules if we had remained
If we had been in the Schengen Zone of course we would have had to leave it at Brexit
I dont think the EU would have kicked us if we had remained in the EU but did not join the Zone. Just insisted we comply to its rules.
Buy you a drink if we meet in Arillas in September
Geoff
No thanks for the drink Geoff, I would just see you and remember when we had to stand up queuing, for nearly three hours at Corfu Airport in July 2022, and was told by an airport official that it was "our" fault because we voted for Brexit. We boarded, ten minutes before takeoff.
I see this on your profile and now I know why "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak up and remove all doubt."
I haven't queued up in an Airport for 13 years. Do they bring refreshments round??

Ouzo , pork pie and Colemans..... happy days 😁
HI
Boris said the £350 million a week we give to EU save and give to our NHS instead
Can someone tell me are the NHS receiving £350 mil a week as Boris promised No /Yes who knows
Now labour are in power are labour going to give NHS £350 mil
But Rachel Reeves said there's no money in the pot
The Conservatives say that's a lie
So who do you believe
If the NHS are receiving the money why are the Hospitals Dr surgeries all struggling
And you can not see the quack (Dr)
I know this not about EES AND ETIAS
Kev
I'd rather have an Ouzo, pork pie and colmans!
Negg
Hi
I rather have ouzo pork pie branston pickle or pie & mash & liquor and a ouzo to wash it down sorted
Kev⚒️
Its a hassle, but hardly the end of the world. You get it when you travel to many places outside Europe, US, Thailand, even before you get to the restrictive regime counties. As the world gets more crazy it will only get worse.
Hi
Notice the new EES security scanners are in place at the airport in readiness for November start
