Hi
If you hope to get away soon the best rate on line is 1.1609. Might be worth hedging your bets and getting some of your requirements, in case it drops.
It could go a little higher based on our vaccination success and our economy shows signs of improvement.

Hi
If you feel confident about getting away this year and dont have a stock of unused euros from 2020/1, best rate today on line is 1.1862.
May still go a little higher if the £ continous to gain in strength, but worth a bet to get a few.

Hi
With Greece suffering along with the rest of Europe with rising inflation and price increases see link:
https://www.keeptalkinggreece.com/2022/02/14/misery-whining-harm-greece-development-minister/
it will be more important than ever to shop wisely for your Euro this year.
Using 1500 euro as the base, you get 1771 euro (1.1813) with Travel FX and 1741 euro (1.1604) with the Post Office.
Thats 30 euro more for shopping around. That will make your money go a bit further in these difficult times.

Just purchased some Euro's via Tesco, so happy with that. Roll on July
I think you should all be aware that prices may be on the way up from May.
A much needed increase for all in Arillas who have kept prices low since before the first lockdown.
These guys here do so much work on their properties, during the Winter, to increase more of the "Take T'easy" enjoyment and reduce less stress for all.
But.....How long can we expect a beer or Ouzo to stay the same price for 2 years?
and... so a meal for two is a few euros more? - Who gives a "monkeys" ? The service and company and the respect for all guests is worth much more then that!
Cheers

Hi
On line rates still stick at at 1.156
See the ''experts'' view
This morning the latest inflation data has been released.
UK inflation has come in at 8.7% - much higher than elsewhere.
By comparison, US inflation is down to 4.0% and the Eurozone down to 6.1%.
The Pound's strength in recent months is because the Bank of England is going to have to remain very tight with monetary policy.
Tomorrow the Bank of England meets again and another interest rate hike is almost a done deal.
But there's only so much the UK economy can take.
So the outlook for the Pound is less certain over the coming months.
Last week the Pound hit a 14-month high against the US Dollar and a 10-month high against the Euro.
It's a run that may be hard to sustain.
Over time, the UK is likely to get in sync with its peers and the Pound's advantage will end.
The message is it's still a good time for buyers of Euros or Dollars.
Geoff

1.1602 on line

I got mine a few weeks back at 1.145 so expect it to keep on rising now 🤣🤣
Tesco always good as they will price match. That is where we got ours 4 weeks ago for our holiday. In our area Ramsdens tend to be the cheapest and they price matched it.

Hi

So keep your eye on the rates.
Geoff
Transferwise.....1,1856
Hi
The exchange rate has been remarkably calm during the build up to the election holding steady at 1.16.
Todays top rate on line is still 1.1665
Financial markets generally react very quick to polictical changes if they feel uneasy.
Next week I think be an indictor of how things will pan out. I have just ordered some at 1.1665
Add to the mix is the EU polictical unrest and the rise of extreme parties. The immediate concern for the EU is the second French vote this Sunday as Le Pen's far right group looks to be on the cusp of taking power.
Mr Orban, Hungary's PM , has just assumed the six-month rotating presidency of the bloc is another problem for stability in the EU.

and.... I am fairly sure that a pal of ours uses transfers from them to their FAIRFX a/c.

Hi Negg
Wise do have a useful card for travelling from UK, or for use by expats . Although you need a Wise account
The Wise card works in much the same way as your bank-issued debit card. While you're overseas, you can spend and withdraw cash with your card just like you would in the UK. You can keep an eye on everything with instant transaction notifications in the Wise app.
The card linked to your Wise account, just like a bank debit card is linked to a current account. Using your card, you can spend whatever is in your Wise balance.
So all you need to do before you travel is top up your Wise account with the money you expect to spend while you're away. And you can always add more, using the Wise app to top up on the move.
But the Wise card does a clever thing that most debit cards don't. When you spend, it automatically converts the currency from your balance into the local currency wherever you are. This means you don't need to convert currency before you travel (unless you want to), as the card will do it for you.

Whether the euro rate you get at point of spending on the card is the money transfer rate they offer I dont know. 1.1826 at the moment .If it is, the card would be worth having. Will have to ask them. Cant see answer on line.
Cant see an option to order foreign currency on line and have it delivered to your UK address though.
A word of caution. Wise is not a bank, and as such is not part of the FSCS (Financial Services Compensation Scheme).

Hi
Despite Labour being in power and EU militant parties the exchange rate has actualy improved, the financial markets do not seem concerned.
Today its now improved to 1.1703
Geoff
I'm holding on a bit I think , it SHOULD continue to rise ......
Hi
Today, I think for the first time, John Lewis and Waitrose are offering the best on line rates 1.1707 respectively
Geoff
I ended up getting mine last week at 1.165 which is not too bad. I ended up getting at Tui but what was weird was that my two nearby towns which both had a Tui, one of them couldn't come close to matching the rate even though same company! I could have got better online but always nervous of doing this incase they go bust!
I knew it would bloody rise again once I had bought hahah
Typical isn't it Jo ! At least you're all sorted now .......
Hi
Before I used to purchase on line, I used to take a screen shot of online rates and take it to a High Street outlet and ask them to match. Which most used to do.
Geoff
Hi
Keep reading in the press etc of how we are to benefit with the £'s strength in the Euro Zone this year but the echange rate still continues to fluctuate between 1.16 and 1.17
Today's top on line rate 1.1677 with TravelFX.
Maybe a lot of money is being made by not passing on the gains
Geoff
I think you're right Geoff.
Looks like Waitrose currency 'sale' was genuine as the rate dropped quite a bit the day after I purchased 👍
We made a big currency mistake. Bought from post office online at good rate but used credit card to pay. Cleared the card right away. Just been charged £48 by card company (Tesco). It's a money transaction hence the charge. I didn't know about this but you live and learn. Back to TUI or Ramsdens next time.
Told kids about it and they wondered why we took cash. They were flabbergasted in fact. Generational thing I suppose?

ATM rate.
Lesson learnt. If the sun is dazzling the screen, go else where.

Hi
More to do with the failing EU economy, in particular within Germany, partly driven by car manufacturing faltering due to fall in sales of EV vehicles and increased unemployment, and the reduction in the EU interest rates in an attempt to boost the economy throughout the EU.
Add to this mixture Donald Trump and possible trade tarrifs being imposed.
Combine this with the UK maintaining higher interest rates, and voila, the exchange rates increases.
Today it peaked briefly 1.20
Geoff
Hi
The rates are dropping from 1.20 to 1.17 today
The Euro is now sitting at 5-month highs against the Pound.
It's more a case of weakness in the Pound rather than Euro strength.
The Pound has had a few setbacks lately...
Weak retail sales, tiny economic growth and falling inflation numbers mean the Bank of England may cut interest rates next month – which would be bad news for the Pound.
However if you are thinking of selling euros now is the time.
Geoff

The Pound has made solid gains against the Euro rising to 5-week highs.1.1716 today
These trends are essentially a reversal of what happened in March and early April.
It's pretty much being driven by trade deals and a corresponding shift in risk appetite.
The US-UK trade deal has benefited the Pound with President Trump saying the UK is a 'great friend of the United States. (Time will tell lol )
The Euro has been a big loser recently, not only falling against the Pound but also against the Dollar
As investors are feeling more optimistic, the big institutional money is flowing out of the Euro and back into the US Dollar and Pound.
The level the Pound looks more vulnerable though.
On Thursday this week, the latest UK GDP data will be announced. It's expected to show the economy has stalled to 0.0% growth ie no growth at all. Not good
This could trigger the Bank of England to cut rates further, which would be Pound negative. Although there seems to a division within the BOE is this the right time for another rate cut as inflation is expected to rise again
Geoff
Bugger all that Geoff. You sound like a Conservative politician!
(Or is it a Nigel Farage lookalike?)
Just tell us what exchange rate you see.
Obviously I jest with you as I am a nice guy really.
I'm looking at £500 giving us e591 at the moment.
Cheers

Well second time we have ordered euros online from the post office to collect at our local post office and second time we have been let down.
The first time we arranged collection was a couple of years ago and we turned up at the post office and they had a sign on the door saying they were closed due to staff shortages. This was a Saturday and we were going to Corfu on the Monday. We ended up collecting them on the Monday morning before going to the airport.
This year we thought they had a good rate which runs out today so ordered some Wednesday night to collect from yesterday and within 7 days. My husband went to collect them this morning and queued for 25 minutes only to be told they did not have enough euros and to go back on Tuesday. Good job it is 3 weeks until we go but we won't be ordering from the post office again.

Will not order from the Post Office again even using delivery instead.
My hubby went back yesterday and they still did not have enough euros. Fortunately whilst he was there some more arrived. He has now lodged a complaint.
