Title: The Best Sofrito?
Post by: Jo Wissett on January 25, 2020, 07:49:37 PM
Ok so to get the tastebuds going and to drum up a little excitement for the coming Summer, I for one, am looking  forward to enjoying one of my favourite dishes in July but the question is...where is your favourite version of this traditional dish?

I absolutely love Effies but to be fair I've never had it anywhere else! What's your recommendations and have you tried making it at home??

I know its not an answer to your question as such! But we had homemade Briam for supper last night (it was quite nice)
and we came to the conclusion that the best we have had has to be from Thalassa.

Hurry up July

Dont tend to have Sorfrito so sorry csnt help. I always think its odd that we have casserole type dishes in Arillas. When it is that hot on UK (tare I know) we wouldn't dream of having a casserole for tea bit yet I love Kleftiko and stifado in Arillas. Make then both at home but of course never the same.

Hi

has anybody seen Papoutsakia on any menus in arillas?

I have tried a few recipes from greek chef Akis Petretzikis (who features on a few Jamie Oliver Books/programmes)
this was one of them .....and wow a hit with us all!

also his tzatziki recipe and moussaka are incredible, worth a look.

It is a stuffed aubergine. It has a minced meat filling similar to moussaka also a bechemel topping.

Papoutsakia translates to "little shoes" which I suppose they look similar too!

Oh right I'm sure the Marina do something like this a friend of ours let me try it but I seem to recall her asking Dida for it as it wasn't on the menu. It was very tasty

Love the sofrito at Athina. Had the meat filled aubergine in Roda last year and it's to die for. Kleftico at Mirage. And the greens at efes. Roll on summer

Never had a bad meal in Arillas. We tend to try a different place every night...that tells you something, you can't go wrong
