Hi there Millsy & welcome to the Forum,
No doubt you'll be inundated with lots of advice & top tips from other Forum members fairly soon.
I'm afraid I don't know anything about the Galini Apartments - but if you look in the accomodation section I'm sure they'll be postings about it there - or I suspect people who have stayed there will post you a reply fairly shortly.
In terms of places to eat & drink with your daughter - you'll soon find yourself spoilt for choice as the food is seriously yummy!

My faves include the Brouklis Taverna, Kosta's On The Beach and a really cracking place to have breakfast or lunch is Helen's Creperie - on the seafront & I think your daughter would probably enjoy that as well.

There are loads of great places to eat & drink & I'm sure that other people will be able to give you great advice in regards to this.
One thing I can tell you is, you & your daughter are going to have a brilliant time - you really are.
Make sure you tell us all about it when you get back.
Happy Holidays!

BeckyB.

Hi, and thanks for the reply,

I'm really looking forward to my hols, I was in Arillas in 2000, so quite a long time ago now but I loved it then so am very excited that I'm returning, my daughter loved it then but she was only seven at the time, so I'm a bit apprehensive that she will be a bit bored at hanging out with her mum for a whole two weeks, just hope there are other kids her age there that she can strike up a friendship with, its hard travelling as a single parent, you tend to stick out like a sore thumb.....

Deb you won't stick out like a sore thumb in Arillas. Lots of us go out there as single parents and nobody bats an eyelid. I first went with my two in 1993 and went back every year after that until they were each about 17....they loved it and there are sure to be loads of other youngsters around. If you can face it (!), have an evening at the Malibu - she's bound to meet up with some teenagers in there.

Deb

Walk towards Arillas beach, from Gallini, and within 5 minutes you will find the Rainbow Pool n Bar on the left hand side.

I think you will find the Gallini a very nice place to stay. - Enjoy!

The Galini is great!  Great studios, all you need for a great holiday.  We had no air con but we rented a fan from Kostas.  He can be a bit moody, talks to himself a lot but we got on ok... he is brilliant making his own cocktails!  He does have trouble with his english which is half his problem, well actually all his problem.   His parents are lovely and would leave apricots outside our room.

The pool is brilliant and the studios are literally 2 seconds from the Bakery and supermarket.  Its in quite an ideal base as its at the top end of the "circle" and you can walk all the way round to the new bar near the Makris and carry on past the Vavilas fish restaurant and the Bardis Sun til you come to the Sea breeze and sea front... then you can carry on walking all the way round up the road past the Brouklis and you come back to the Galini.

There is a walk at the back of the Galini, past the olive groves up the small hill, come to the church and get onto the main San Stef. road carry on til you come to the junction and bear right, which takes you right down into Arillas again... this is a very nice walk.

The Captains restaurant is very good value and does very large portions and that is opposite the Marvellous Hotel which is next door to the Rainbow and this is within 5 mins from the Galini... You are ideally placed!

I know you will love it.  We did on our first visit to Arillas and have some very happy memories there, meeting some lovely people.

Hi Millsy

Galini is just opposite the Elena Stella where Jen and and me are staying from Aug 27 to Sept 26. Sadly we'll miss you. If you turn right as you walk out of Galini, you will come to the bakery and supermarket (they even do skimmed milk which was the only thing Jen said she would miss when we live there permanently) and just a short walk and the Rainbow is on your left. Opposite is the Captains, next door is the Marvel, then you get to Brouklis and the main centre with Malibu/Coconut etc etc.

Turn left and you will head towards Vavilas (best fish in Arillas) a new taverna, and on to the Bardis Sun and the sea front from the other direction. Like BG says, an ideal location.

Know you will have a great holiday, and so will your daughter.

Hiya,

We are staying in the Gallini from the 15th, 3 more sleeps not that we are counting.  We have stayed there before and tehy are really nice and clean and you have everything you need.

Good idea to hire a fan though, which you can do from the owner or next door at the shop.

I agree with what everyone else has said and the rainbow is alway a safe bet, you will be made most welcome.

I'm sure you will see us around, 2 families saying at the Gallini and another to arrive the day after you but saying else where, 12 of us in total.  Don't worry we are not that load, 6 kids aging from 2 to 12 with grandparents arriving on the Tuesday but the kids don't know !

Look forward to see you there, if you have any other questions on the gallini let me know and I'll try and answer them for you.  It's been 4 years since we where in Arillas and this will be our 3rd time can't wait, as you said it's raining again here !!

Hi Deb

Jen and me aren't quite as frightening as our reputation makes us look........

Sorry I got the dates wrong - we will be staying opposite you at Elena Stella and Sandy will be about for a few days till you both "go abroad" (home?)

Hope to see you in the Rainbow. Don't be shy - the Arillas hippies are quite unmistakeable. just say hello.

Phil

Deb

Phil n Jen , despite what they say are frightening! When they are here everything closes at 9 pm and all Greeks hang garlic from the doors.

Holidaymakers cringe behind appt doors and hug babies close to their chest.

Not a dog can be heard to bark for fear of being discovered and all cats hide in the holes of Olive trees. Even Dimitris closes Brouklis and gives everyone paid leave.

CAN I PUT ALL THIS ? - HAVE THEY A SENSE OF HUMOUR ?
Course I can - Not long now guys ! - One month eh?

( And at Rainbow,as well,  with Debs who's buying me an Ouzo )

Life just gets better n better

You cheeky s*d Eggy.

They close at 9pm because they have run out of drink. And we've eaten all the garlic. As for babies, we can't eat a whole one. The dogs just lay at Jen's feet in awe, and the cats are my familair friends. Dimitris sends the staff away so he can admire my anorak without interruption.

I'll buy that first ouzo Eggy and mix it with arsenic and old lace.......

We can't wait to see you all - only two weeks now. And if that doesn't send you scuttling for the holes in the olive trees Deb, we'll see you in the Rainbow!

lmao

You forgot about the Child Catcher.

On a more serious note the Galini has been with Olympic for the last few months,
I have Looked on their web site with a view to booking for next year but unfortunately the site shows the Galini as not available for next year, It is not shown in their Brochure either
I hope that this changes. It would be a shame if the Galini was not available next year.

My wife and I have just returned from the Galini apts and all the praise you see here is justified.

We are in our sixties and my mobility is slightly limited but were very comfortable. We had the smaller apartment which was perfectly adequate. Super bakery just down the road and supermarket.  Agree Kostas can seem moody but he ALWAYS responded when help was needed. Pool is great and well maintained.  We also made friends with some great people.  Good for children and for more 'mature' as well!  A really well looked after and cared for place.

One grumpier comment.  We did experience on noisy young UK chav and his partner who made a lot of noise - and it can echo - they were next door - and caused some damage.  But we were leaving shortly and it was clear that had it gone on, the rep, Kostas, and the rest of us might have disturbed him too.  Pity when your own people behave badly abroad.  Dont be put off by this - but am trying to be honest here.

Enjoy Arillas - we loved it and eat well and were very very happy.

Peter, you can't legislate for young and loud neighbours. We are neithe... Jen and me might have a reputation for Union Jack shorts and beer for breakfast, but anyone who knows us will disagree. We are "warm" and "part of the surroundings." Guilt trip over.

But youngsters on holiday need a safe and welcoming place to go. Arillas provides it. It isn't only about us older ones. Look at the two girls who joined us at Annas in our holiday report.

Mind you, someone else complained about the UK chav at Galini earlier today. Must be the same one. It happened at Christos too in July - see the posts.

But surely we can live with our youngsters? We have to keep trying to accommodate them, they are the future.

So glad you found our place so good.
best wishes
Phil

Yes, Phil - you're right of course about younger people.  Worked with students all my life so I do understand.   We had loads of youngsters when we were there - full of life, fun, boisterous but there's always one, isn't there.  It was more the damage than the noise.  Great thing about Arillas though was it accommodates everyone with ease without going over the top for Yoof!

For me it's special as this was the fiest experimemt abroad into learning to walk more freely after an accident which destroyed the tendons in my legs. And EVERYONE was just incredibly supportive.

Enjoy!

Very glad you enjoyed the Gallini and what a great pity your stay had to be tarnished by people who don't know how to behave abroad.
( And who wants 'em as neighbours in the UK? )

Boisterous can be acceptable, loud and happy can be acceptable but they should not forget they have neighbours who appreciate these things should happen at respectable times to maybe suit all.

Peter
You will, very soon I'm sure, cater your surroundings to suit your particular needs to noise and location. - We did.

Cheers

The one thing you have no control over when you book your holiday is who your neighbours are going to be.
Sometimes it is the people you meet and make friends with that makes a holiday a success, on the other hand being stuck with someone that you don't get on with can ruin it.

We have also just spent two weeks at the Galini and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to our friends or to go back there next year. I would like to think that you would have to be very unlucky to be stuck with any un-desirables at the Galini as it just isn't the sort of place that would attract that type of person.

And one last comment, having a bakery that close to home isn't such a good thing if you have problems with your weight. I can truly recommend their spinach pies, especially in the morning when they are still warm. Unfortunately, I had to make a serious effort not to go there every day.

Cheers, from a slightly heavier than when he went,

Dave.
