Title: a change of circumstance - advice please!
Post by: jon on January 29, 2014, 02:10:30 PM
Hi guys
We are visiting Arillas in mid July this year for the 5th time. Unfortunately my wife and I have separated since we booked it last year and therefore it will be just myself and my 15 year old daughter going . It'll be a little strange being in our favourite place with just the 2 of us but we both really don't want to miss out on our Arillas fix for the year. Generally we normally are beach bums by day and foodies by night with a few days in the car visiting Kassiopi , Lagos , Sidari and such places with home being Arillas. As its just the 2 of us I'm a little concerned that my daughter may be a bit bored with just her old dad for company for 2 weeks! . Have any of you recommendations for excursions etc that we can enjoy? . I may spend a little more time in the coconut and Malibu this time round though!

Perhaps she would enjoy Aqualand water park? There is also pony trecking I believe and a few lovely boat trips (but these may be a little boring for her!).  Sorry to hear about your circumstances by the way x

I think it may be you who feels different this time. Always sorry to hear things like this.

You can rely on the travel specialists (Olga, Arkokal and Arillas Travel) to find just about anything you fancy. Plus in mid July there will always be teenagers to befriend and share fun times with in perfect safety, if that is what your daughter wants.

Two recycled and wobbly teenagers will be in evidence for most of July, so please say hello!

Sorry to hear your news. The pony trekking was great mate when we did it, I would recommend it. We sorted it through San Stefanos travel and they come and pick you up from by Kassioppi. I went through that stables as they use rescue horses , and while it may be a tiny bit more expensive from there you feel like you are helping out a little

Shopping in Corfu Town?  Most girls love shopping!
You can catch the early morning bus - the journey is an interesting event in itself, or you can go on one of the shopping trips offered by the travel offices.
Personally I wouldn't go on an organised trip as it really doesn't leave enough time to stroll, shop, dine and people watch which is what Corfu Town is all about...well ok I've missed out the cultural stuff but that is best saved for another day.
My daughter and I much prefer taking the bus down, we don't return by bus as again the timing is just too neat for a decent 'session' in town.  We finish our day by picking up a taxi at the taxi rank situated at the Liston near McDonalds.

Hi Jon, don't know where you're staying.......but try spending the day at Kaloudis pool (Splish Splash) there are always plenty of teenagers in the pool there, so I am sure she won't mind her old Dad joining the oldies at the bar while she makes friends.

Everyone who has done the pony trekking has enjoyed it, you don't need any experience to do it. Also there is usually a good age mix too.

Hire a boat and visit a couple of the small beaches around Arillas but take a picnic and plenty of water.

Another good one is to learn wind surfing in San George a little more expensive but
when we have watched them everybody was having great fun.

You know she just might enjoy "Me Time" with her Dad doing the things you always do in Arillas...... so ask her. ;)

Arillas is well known for looking after their young teenage visitors. She will love the atmosphere of both Malibu and Coconut Bar. All you have to do is sit and put up with the music and let her enjoy.
She will, I hope meet other visitors of her own age and perhaps, some evenings, they can go off and do their own thing.

Think about a car hire and pop to Corfu Town, Kassiopi, maybe Sidari for a music evening.
All other recommendations you read, and you are spoilt for choice.

Plenty to do.

Cheers
Negg

Thanks to all for your lovely comments, offers and suggestions. This is why I love arillas .
We are staying at the Kaloudis anyway, for the 3rd year on the trot, in the last two weeks in July but have never really used the pool.
As I said previously we are beach bums at heart. But we will certainly give it a go this year.
Pony trekking sounds fun. Are you picked up from San Steff and taken to kassiopi does anyone know ? I'm sure all will be well and as with all best laid plans , once we are there the holiday will all fall into place. Again thanks guys

If your daughter has a creative streak, we offer pottery painting in our shop in San Stef, on the main street next to Athens bar. Last year we also did sessions at Sharons pool bar at the Marina hotel, which we hope to do this year too. We have lots of stuff to paint...last year we had quite a few teenagers have a go, with one 16 yr old I remember doing a lovely house name plaque, which now sits proudly outside their 2nd home in Arillas. Just do in your 1st week, so we can get it glazed and fired in our kiln before you go home.

Get in touch with San Stef travel and they arrange for the stables to pick you up from your accomodation . The guy who came from the stables to pick us up was really good too, he took us a nice route there and back and showed us some interesting places.

Hi Jon,

A trip to Paleokastritsa is definitely worth it. I will be making a second visit there when i'm back in August as i didn't manage to make it up to the monastery last year (I had a huge blister so opted for a 2nd boat trip instead of walking up a steep hill lol).

The coach there (arranged through San Stef travel) was only €12 and that's for return as well.
I went there mainly for the Aquarium. Just €10 for both the boat trip and entry into the Aquarium.

It was a wonderful day :-)

Hi, Its good to hear that teenagers are catered for, unfortunately Jon we arrive as you leave (1st Aug-15th), we are also staying at the Kaloudis with two teenage boys 16 & 15.
Its our first time in Arillas and so looking forward to it. I am hoping they will be plenty of teenagers to occupy each other and hang out together.

Bella, I've been making a effort to get fitter over the last
Six months (turning 40 and all that) but I can
See an airlift being needed if I went biking if corfu
In mid July !!
Rachel , we went to paleo a couple of years ago .
Didn't do the aquarium though so we will give that a look
We drove the ' scenic' route which was fab as we got
Totally lost and saw places to this day I've no idea where
They were . I remember waiting on a flickering amber light
For 15 mins . Stop? Go? Eh? Ha ha
Julia, we fly back on my birthday ( 1st)
Shame we will miss you
Again thanks for the info
Jon

Jo..... I too can't see the point of pushing yourself to near death riding a bike up a steep hill in the summer heat just for the "thrill" of racing down again.

Enjoying Arillas is my thrill, I might not be fit but I do know how to get the most out of life ;)

Ha ha Jo and me neither Val!

They minibus you to the top of Mt. Pandokratoras and then you have a choice of some easy routes down via the lanes or the hard one across the terrain - I will be doing the easy ones!

Personally I can't lie on a sunbed all day - I find it too boring and much prefer to be out hiking and exploring but that's just me.

I prefer going up , it's harder on the legs but coming down is SCARY if you do it properly . . . . .

I was right then. Sipping Mythos, in a seat watching Gravia at Graziella, is much better sport than fighting with Pantokrator....

From where I sit, mountains are a waste of time. Life is about enjoying every moment that it throws towards you.
