Title: North beach
Post by: turkeyfoot on June 17, 2023, 07:08:36 PM
Hi
Does anybody know if Christina is running the beds this year, if beds are yet available?
She did intimate last year she would not be renewing the license for 2023
Thanks
Geoff

I believe not. Mainly because there is literally NO beach there at all at the moment!

There are not as many sunbeds at the south end of the beach.  Not sure about the North. Pedros has not bought a license for as much space this year which unfortunately has meant one day there were no sunbeds left at all on the beach so we didnt stay.  The beach when we first arrived was full of seaweed and stones from outside Alex's upwards but this has now been cleared.

Christina has a few sunbeds this year but all are on pebbles and it is pebbly going into the sea. Wading round you would be neck high so people are walking along the donkey track and down the cliff path.
To be honest, there is very little beach at all this year to the right of the jetty. Dimitris  has a few sunbeds but all on pebble. Pedro must be making a fortune on south beach this year!

Unfortunately Pedro's isn't taking a fortune this year Sandy as he only has Sunbeds outside Gratselas and Vinceremos.  One day while we were there we could not get a sunbed at all. With all due respect to the nudists also they are going to the south beach instead with it being difgicukt ti get to the north beach and as Pedro's only has control of the beach as far as Vinceremos it does mean that we saw nudists further down towards the main beach close to where families were. 🤔.

Yes I agree Pedro can only put his sunbeds up as far as Vinceremos but he has at least 30 there at 10 euros for 2 (which sometimes get let out twice in one day) so in comparison to Dimitris and Christina, he won't be doing badly.

Outside porto fino restaurant its quite narrow and water white stony to get in to  but we found it better down underneath Gratselas, good width of beach and sandy getting into the water.. Sea very shallow this yeat. Sunbeds under Gratselaas are only €10 for 2 with an umbrella!

I believe there is still no sand or wading available unfortunately. Christina has a few beds on the stones but these are only access by scrambling down the cliff'

Hi
Hoping by September the north beach will be easily reached.

Some of us find it very difficult and uncomfortable laying on sand, but not as uncomfortable as beds.

Hopefully Pedro will allow us to take beds up to the far south end. Does anybody know if he will do this ?

It's unlike that Pedro will be able to allow you to use his beds further up the beach. They have to pay a fee to the council for a 'patch' of beach and are not allowed to extend beyond it.

Hi
With a week to go before we depart for Arillas has the beach become easily accessible?

In the meantime the cases have been bought down from the loft.
Free standing clothes rails  assembled so  all our clothing can be sorted and ironed prior to packing.
Boarding passes downloaded.
Last of the euro to be delivered Tuesday. Best rate of 1.15 is not that good. Bought some a few weeks back at 1.17, should have ordered it all.
Medications sorted.
Toiletries sorted.
Taxi to airport confirmed.
Check list compiled for everything else you have to take, such as chargers, so nothing is forgotten

Geoff

Oops must remember to pack the Colmans

After 18 lovely visits  it seems that there has been a major shift in sand positioning in the Arillas bay....the North Bay from in front of Marinaki is almost devoid of sand, although there still seems to be plenty under the sea ! But it's not all bad news as the South Beach is now considerably wider and much more user friendly. Admittedly no beach beds, but loads of room for all sunbathers....unclothed or not ! Perhaps Christina might have to ask the local authority to be more flexible with the licencing regimen in future ?

Nature makes her own rules where the beach and incoming tides are concerned.
(Her boss , Mother Earth, also reminds people everywhere who really has control of the elements)

She takes away part of the North Bay and gives you , in return part of the "user friendly" South.

I do not know Christina but I believe she has very little control who wears what , if nothing at all.
and... you do not need a licence to relax in a peaceful surrounding and ignore all nature lovers around you.
Of course , respect must be given by those around you as you would give respect to others .
As you say it is a "user friendly" South Beach. - Room for all who respect the surroundings and users.

At the risk of sounding like an old fodfie doidie please remember it is illegal to be nude on a beach in Corfu. The problem with the North beach being unacessisible is that the nudist stray further and further from the south beach onto the main.beach used by families and legally so. Each to their own but please be respectful to families and remember that ultimately what you are  doing is illegal.

Hi
We don't use any beds on the south side

It is annoying when some , the few, who don't show respect for others.

Intend to buy our own beds next year if  the north end is not accessible

I think it's pretty safe to say that you could probably purchase a couple of sun beds in corfu town somewhere seeing as Tourism is the main industry'. If you tend to stay at the same place each year and they aren't too big I'm pretty sure your apts would store them for you. We leave a large bag with things like towels etc and even a little toaster lol to save keep bringing back over each year. The only downside I suppose is having to carry a sunbed all the way to the beach every day lol

I wonder if the two licensed sun bed practitioners to the north of Marinaki (Christina & Spiros ?)will lobby for some licence flexibility in 2024 given that the beach situation has become more "fluid".
We were astounded at the size of the south beach past Graziella this year .....our memories of it were  of a stony, narrow access to a relatively modest beach......but not in September '23......there was plenty of room for everybody, clothed or not.....
