Probably a very easy question to those brave "hikers" out there, or the not so brave hirers of cars.

Negg
I'm sorry to say i don't know. It really looks like a place to visit though. Give us a clue Neil.......riggers.....
Not yet John.
Pictures taken by Wegg. - She takes a much better pic than I.

San Stef Harbour? Where the boat to Mathraki etc. leaves from? Looks lovely anyway,
Ivan
Now i was going to say that Ivan. Iv'e just been looking on san stephanos website....riggers...
Hi Riggers, we'll share the prize!
Ivan
A joint effort so that's only 120 Tetley tea-bags each.To arrive with you both next year.
( Aren't you glad there was no outright winner? )
Negg
Great prize that isn't it Ivan. Can't wait to see if i can win again..Cheers Eggy.......riggers...
Nice one Eggy! That's worse than a BBC phone in!
Ivan
Hahaha exactly Ivan!!
You both must feel so proud!
I love the idea of this Topic Eggy, and its another way of getting through the winter for us poor souls in the cold UK.
Some of us could probably post some of our photos or an area of a photo to keep the topic going.
Cheers Mate!!!!!!!!!!
Another easy one then:-
Where's this ?

Lol...no you rogue it's not Villa Linakis but my dear near neighbours at Anaplasis!
Eileenxxx
Are you sure its not Villa Linnakis Eggy? You know what those Scots are like when they are enjoying themselves. I saw the evidence of what they can do at Wembley in 1977.
Sorry Eileen and Maggie.... couldn't resist a wee dig.
This "quiz" reminds me of through the Keyhole. I might see the evidence later on today eh Eggy!!!!!!!!!
Eileen
I was going to say "Helios Court Villa" but Frank's a lot bigger than me.
It's Anaplassis of course, taken last May , I think.

Eileenx
If you've got a wine cellar like that Eileen, can i come??!!
Hi Eileen
I think the virtual drinks should be on you, if you have a cellar like that. Ha ha.
Mango
Just you make sure girls that you arrive before Eggy lest there be none left!!!! ;-)
Eileenx
Hi Eileen
fit a drip to one of the barrels, I'll be then in five.
Mango
Lovely pics of Anaplasis Eggy, did you go and have a recce at my pad when you were in the area?
Our Sandy is in a bit of a predicament....yes again I hear you say.....
As you can see she was having a thoroughly good time when this photo was taken, but for the life of her (get it?!) she cannot remember where she was at the time...can anyone help?
(http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/9588/thegravezdul8.gif) (http://imageshack.us)
She looks like she is "stoned" to me!!!! But where?
Not sure where that is but there are similar things up in Lancaster/Morecambe in a little village. They are old viking graves that look very similar to your photo Eileen.
Are you sure she is not on im a celebrity get me out of here. She looks like she is now going under ground with the rats like what Jenny Bond done the other year!!
Funny you should say that Shuey. It's my ambition to be on that show but sadly have first to become a celebrity! Why can't they do one for ordinary folk? I absolutely love it and am completely hooked although have to confess I don't know any of the current bunch (yes I know I'm a sad old fogey). I never watch Big Brother but somehow the jungle, the open air and nature....I'd be there like a shot...though might draw the line at eating croc's .....
Sandy
It's not the ditch, just before the Rainbow bar, is it?
Someone told me that it was dug out and made more comfortable.
( Just in case she fell into it on the way back to her Appt )
Joke Sandy - Honest !!!
Negg
Hahaha Eggy, you are a one!!
Im also hooked on Im a Celeb, love it, watched it last night, made me gag watching them eat the creep crawlies!!
Have you been talking to Riggers, Eggy? Joyce nicknamed me Tarmac Tart in the summer for that very reason....a few problems making it across the road at 4am from the Rainbow to the Arillas Inn apartments...
Can anybody else see flashing dots on the picture? Are they some sort of dot 2 dot type clue?
TerryW
Pink elephants, magic mushrooms, flashing dots, whatever next!!! ha ha
Mango
its not spinalonga the leper island is it? they were buried on there and have graves
No Blondegirl - it's definitely Corfu. It was several years ago and I was with a group of friends and we had hired a minibus for a few days to tour the island. As I wasn't driving I didn't take much notice of where we were going.
As I recall, it was a tourist attraction with a car park and I seem to remember sitting in a taverna overlooking the sea. As well as the graves, there were the old ruins of a fort I think, or was it a monastery? I wanted to go back again this summer but had no idea where it was. Can anyone help? Maybe Dimitris knows?
Hi Sandy, I reconished it straight away but cant remember for the life of me what it was called. I did however find it on the web so will look again tomorrow. Love Viv
Wonderful Viv. I was sure I couldn't be the only person who has been there...also not the only person to forget the name...lol...look forward to hearing the result of your search.
You do look peaceful Sandy. I hope your'e not claiming that grave....riggers....
Here you go Sandy, I knew i had sen it before.
Around the corner from Krini, the fabulous 13th century castle of Angelokastro perched on a tower of limestone and overlooking the bays of Paleokastritsa. Accessed by a stone, stepped path, recently renovated, the battlemented summit rock platform has a small church and fabulous views down to the sea 1000ft below. Carved into the rock are some graves, now empty except for rainwater. On his previous visit with a group, one of us had discovered that one of the graves was twice as bit as them- indicating that someone remarkably tall for mediaeval times had once been buried there.
Is this it from another view
(http://www.marengowalks.com/marengo_images/cfr20.jpg)
flooded stone grave, Angelokastro
I hope you don't think this is awful Sandy, but you have really nice legs.
TerryW
There isn't 20,000 cockroaches in there neither. Did you see it on celebrity get me out of here.......riggers....
Viv - you're a star. Yes - that is the place excatly as you describe it....and the prize is....one slab of cheddar cheese and a jar of pickled onions for Eggy.... I shall certainly go back and can recommend the spot to everyone. Breathtaking views.
Riggers - I was testing it out for size (I'm about 5ft 8) and just couldn't resist the temptation, but there was no rainwater in it at the time despite it being the last week of October.
Terryw - don't think that photo can be the one I was in - far too skinny for me...lol
As for the 20,000 cockroaches I would certainly have given that one a go, and all the rest, but would have had to pass on the snake. I don't do snakes and am a bit dodgy with rats. That Janice is a complete pain....please will everyone on the forum vote for someone else tomorrow night?
Don't know what happened there. It was meant to say 5 ft 8 but somehow the attempt at a bracket reduced me to only 5ft! Personally I thought it was quite a good fit.
What a fascinating thread started by Eileen's picture of Sandy. Viv added the brilliant description of the Paleokastritsa connection and Eggy added the humour. And all the other bits and pieces from so many forum members.
Makes reading the forum really worthwhile. Well done to all!
Phil and Jen
I agree with philandjen, I had never heard of the castle of Angelokastro until this topic and now it will be on next years list of things to do Thanks everyone.
sandy i know what you mean i had the same problem, getting from the rainbow to perry&jimmys and its worse as its a dirt track, god bless those boys spiro&jimmy,
The graves are indentical to the ones i have seen up near Morecambe and they too are up high next to some ruins and near the sea! Just alot colder in Morecambe!!
Maybe a few of you may recognise where this is.
A lot of cars dotted around yesterday but not many people.

It's not the Kebabs Helens Creperie does in the evening - Maybe?
Negg
First prize Negg, spot on and I must say are they, but I think George only did them on a fri or sat night back in July, we did tell him to do it every night, so if he did I hope all his customers enjoyed the simplicity of them.
Ang
like me you love yer grub!
Knew i'd seen it, , but it took Eggy to remind me where it was!
Just put my Christopsomo in the oven (see Terry's posts about it - think it's in Our little bit of Corfu but forgive me if it's somewhere else) the Greek Christmas bread with raisins and walnuts and flavoured with cardomum. If it's any good, I'll bring a big one with me when we come to Arillas in July.
If nothing else, we can feed the birds (or Eggy?) with it
take care
phil
I'll have Hell to pay if it
Just come in and absolutely starving, looking at that pic doesn't help one bit. Thanks Ang!.....riggers....
You have actually done it then philandjen, put the Christopsomo in the oven. I wish there was a way of having a virtual tasting. I think you need to give a bite by bite, commentry on the texture, the flavour and if it makes you want to eat more.
It really does sound like my type of bread, and it also seems quite healthy as well. I really hope it turns out special.
I am a bread addict, even sweet breads (not that type ) like malt loaf and banana bread.
Maybe you could put a photo of it on the forum, I might be tempted to lick the screen.
If you licked the screen Terry, does that mean we see your tongue lol.....riggers....
riggers ... If Terrys tongue looks like mine after a session in the Coconut, we'd all chuck our screens in the bin ...
Terry - my take on christopsoms has just come out of the oven and tastes f***ing gorgeous. sliced and smothered in butter..... Will make a big one and bring it with me when I come to Arillas in July.
all the best
phil
Hi Philandjen. The christowhatdoyoucallit sounds really nice. I must try it one day.......riggers......

I must be making these too easy or...... I bet you have much better pictures of it.
Must talk about all these photos of yours sometime.

Take Care
Negg
Orchi Neill, it was not too easy!
It is, because I know the beach ;-)
Hmmm!
Direct down from the beach I have no picture like that you make! :-)
I have different ones, but with me or my friends on it and from scuba diving....
and one from Afionas.
So that is you turn :-)
Ok Neill than we do that :-)
Take care too and we hear from each other!
Marika
I don't have many photos where the location is not obvious immediately but here is one.
Where is this?
Terry
I'll take a guess and say it could be on your lounge wall.
Negg
Nice one Neil. Somewhere in greece? Give us a clue Terry!........riggers....
Terry you've got me there, I haven't the faintest idea where this is in Corfu!
I could swear it is an preserved old village house which is now a museum that I visited in Kos!
Eileenxx
Is it at the back of the Thalassa Taverna, cos Yianni has pots like that dot around!
Amanda
Is it on the wall of hotel you have stayed?.......riggers....
Neil - I wish it was on my lounge wall because I have searched for six months to find a copy of it.
Riggers is very close but I need the detailed location or you could be the weakest link.
Its not Thalassa Mango but I know what you mean.
I am saying it's on the wall at the Horizon...only because we all know you stayed there!
I couldn't remember where you stayed Terry. so my guess is that Eileen is right.....riggers....
Well done Eileen and riggers. It is on the wall at the Horizon by the door. If you have been to the loos at the Horizon you can see it on the way back to the bar.
The artist is George Meris and I think that the painting has wondeful detail and makes you wish you were sitting at the table in the garden. Spiro ( the one with glasses who soon gets married), who works at the Horizon said that he thought the scene was in Kos or Santorini.
I have found other paintings by the artist, mainly on Australian or New Zealand web sites but it is a challenge to try to find 'that'painting.
;-)
I will look out for it Terry on my Cyber travels!
Try www.meisstudio.gr.
Go into 'collection',into panoramic and sure i'm it's the same picture.
That's an interesting website Jen, I have bookmarked it to browse through later. :-)
I went through the bookmarks in my Art folder and came up with this poster company who can supply 'Grecian Urns'... http://www.globalgallery.com/enlarge/019-25594/
Eileenx
Well done and thanks for the link, Jen.
What an interesting web site and its interesting how his name is either Meis or Meris. All I need to do now is send an email to see if any prints are still available.
Ok - Here is another one - but I don't know the name of the Taverna, but I know the name of the owner.
I think that's Sidari, Terry. It looks just like the place we had a lovely meal in in 2006.
It is Sidari Cheryl, but what is the name of the taverna?
Sorry Terry no idea of the name - the food was delicious and the setting was perfect, away from the main street and the hustle and bustle.
Terry
Is is something like Dorothea's Corner in Sidari, I think we ate there once.
Amanda
When we were there in July we had eaten a nice lunchtime snack and I ended up talking to a jolly largish man whose name was Georgio and I think he was the owner. He asked me where I was staying and I told him the Horizon, and he asked me to give his regards to the "English looking chef who worked there". Apparently Dimitris (the Horizon chef) had worked with Georgio previously.
It had been our first visit to Sidari, and the first person I have a conversation with knows about someone at the Hotel I am staying at. Everybody seems to know everyone else in that part of Corfu.
So could it be "Dorothea's Corner Taverna" then Terry, does that name ring any bells.
Amanda
Amanda, we ate there and agree it looks like it could be it. x

"Where is it "
But which "water spout" is me. Not that I often fall in water fountains after a heavy drinking session!!

Paul C.
I think this is, maybe in ,Corfu Town, fairly close to the new Fort. - Could be wrong.

Right in one Eggy, but who is it named after? I bet you know really.

Is it named after some one British?.....riggers...

One good thing about this topic is the research it makes you do (well it does me), and you end up finding some very interesting web sites.
Here are some I found, which some of you may know about, but for those who don't its worth having a look.
http://www.corfu.gr/en.htm lots of links here
http://users.otenet.gr/~psailasn/index6.htm this has a very informative history page with some good pictures
http://www.corfuxenos.gr/History/venetian.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corfu#Corfu_in_film - Lots of links at bottom of page
Viv, it's just past the village of Priniplas at the top.
Sharon / Viv
Sorry - Have only just picked this topic up. Internet has been slow here the last couple of days.
I will attempt to find out the price of this but there are some very nice plots around Arillas where you could do your own build.
( We got excited about one the other day to the point that we seriously thought about buying it )
Anyway , off topic here, sorry. - Back to work outside for me.
Negg
Thanks Negg, stop braggin that you're going outside!! I've got boots, trousers, tshirt, jumper and a flipping parka on to go outside. xx
I haven't got many photos left now but here is one more.

Thanks Sharon, but Pete wants to stick to the present plan. Viv
Viv
Ionian Realty team are on the case and will try to get a price. I'm told it may have been on the market a long time.
I've lost track a bit of "Where's this then " - Have we answered all the questions so far?
Terry
All I can say about the last one is "It's empty" - If it contained Ouzo or wine then it wouldn't be on it's side in the open it would be in my shed!
(Wheeled home on a pair of sack trucks-By Wegg of course- I got a bit 'o back trouble)
Negg
Going to take a quess here is it Sir Howerd Douglas, I know he did a lot in Corfu. Viv
Hi Eggy, No they havent all been answered I put one on that nobody has answered. Viv

Eggy.
Is it Acharavi or Roda maybe.
Viv.
Still finding your's very hard. riggers.....
And we're still missing PJ and Terry's answer..........riggers..... more clues please.
Hi
The memorial which I'm standing in front of is in Corfu Town, not far from the Cricket Pitch. So what date does it commemorate? And what happened on that date?
PJ
I never give it a thought PJ, you could have sneaked the answers to me in the chatroom!.....riggers....
My photo was taken at Acharavi. If I'd have faced left instead of right you would have got Roda in the background.
Not sure on the PJ memorial.
First thoughts were it was erected to commemorate the first time an English tourist found free parking in Corfu Town at 1:30 pm on a Monday. But as that probably hasn't happened yet I think it could be something linked with Ochi day ( 1940 ) or possibly 1947 when the islands were liberated.
Cheers
Negg
Thanks Eggy for that - know what you mean about the parking.
You are in the wrong century with your guesses. You need to go back to good Queen Victoria's golden reign - perhaps around 1860.
Best wishes
PJ
PJ
Maybe 1864 when Britain gave the Ionian Islands back to Greece.
( I got 'eadache now !! )
Cheers

Great Eggy - Have an asprin.
Its the Ionian States Independence Memorial commemorating 21st May 1864 when as you say GB returned Corfu and the other Ionian Islands back to the Greek people. I think the Brits only had them because Napoleon had seized them in the first place and when he was defeated we were given them to look after - or is that just my skewed view of history?
Well done Eggy
PJ
Negg, fantastic photo, i've been to Acharavi and didnt guess it. Are you trying to compete with Marika??
The jugs are from the one and only Vivalis.
Mick, you can't guess that would be cheating. Give Mary a big kiss x
The urn photograph was taken at one of the most popular tourists spots on Corfu.
Then it's got to be in Arillas
LOL Mick, good answer xx
Ignore Billy's mush, look behind him, if you have been here you will know where it is

Hi Sharon!
I know where it is, but I say nothing, because I will give the others a chance ;-)
I only can say it is a beautiful place where you have a beautiful sunset too!
Like from the Horizon! Only a bit higher :-)
Marika :-)
Looks like nobody's going to get the well so I will tell you, it's in Old Perithia and if you havent been there you should go, it is fantastic. You can walk round the village and not see a soul unless your in the main square. I think within a few years you won't be able to do this as it is now becoming the in place for x pats to build. Sharon I knew it was the fish place but couldn't pronouce it let alone spell it. lol Viv
Sorry Viv!
It is not Old Perithia! But It start with P too!
Ok! I tell!
It is Peroulades - Panorama Bar & Restaurant!
Marika x x x
Hi Merika, think we got a bit mixed up, I mant to say the the old water pump that I put on was in Old Perithia. Love Viv

I'm glad you posted that picture Viv, because it has made me add Old Perithia to my list of places to visit next July. Thanks.
TerryW

Very well worth a visit. Spectacular views on the way there and very interesting when you get there. There is also a great taverna that serves excellent lamb....

Negg
Just taking a step back, if you go onto our website and look at Corfu May 2007 you will find a section of Old Perthia that gives you a seletion of views there. If you go into the tavena you must try Grandma's walnut cake best one ive ever tasted. yummm. Viv
Hi Vivian
Have just had a lovely twenty minutes browsing round your photographs on your website. http://www.holmvalley.co.uk/ (http://www.holmvalley.co.uk/). I couldn't make it work at first but a little persistence and I got to see the lot.
You've got some great pictures there. I think anyone who's not had a peek so far should browse around.
I'd never heard of Old Perithia before, so will put it on my list of places to visit.
Best wishes
PJ
I agree Viv....that cake is a definite MUST.....
Viv/Sandy will definately visit there next time.
Well done Marika, it is panorama bar or sunset bar.
PJ, agree they are great photos on viv's site, had a good nosy myself. x
Sharon xx
Thanks for the link to the Old Perithia photographs Viv, it has made me want to go even more.
Kefalonia had lots of villages like that, due to the 1953 Earthquake, and I used to find the silence really weird, as you just sat in the ruins trying to imagine what life was like before the devastation.
As for the Marika's underwater photo, I think its Eggy with a blonde wig, hiding from Wegg, under the bridge at the Coconut bar.
TerryW
It's like that on Hydra...as you say Terry, very eerie.

Paul

Paul
Can't say that i have seen it, but i agree it look's like a beautiful house. I will be waiting for the answer.....riggers....
Mind you Paul I kind of like the second one too...just think how pretty it would be pointed, painted and a few pots of plants dotted around :-)
Eileenx
My house hasn't got a galvanised roof!!
( And no neighbours behind it )
no idea where this one is Paul.
Negg
Look's like Eileen might be giving the answer at some point then!.......riggers....

No I'm not giving it away Riggers...but I'm surprised to read that Eggy has not been in the taverna opposite it...one of the few he's not been in...as well I'm outside arms reach eh Eggs? ;-)
Eileenx
Eileen,I never looked at the second house with that sort of potential, needs a womans touch I guess.
1 clue for Eggy & Riggers. Jimmy & Spiros would know the answer.
Paul
Is it in Magalades?
hmmm...magoulades??
I'm somewhat at a disadvantage as I'm at work where I can't access photos so I'm guessing blind!! But if Jimmy and Spiros will know it I guess it's in Afionas?
You are right there Sandy it is Afionas. Walked there numerous times very nice little village, Regards Suzanne
Well done Sandy and Suzanne it is just down the road from Jimmy's house.
Paul
The house is owned by the brother of Poppy from the Bardis Sun and if I'm not mistaken that's her Dad in the next photo. How good is that! W : 0 )
This could be another easy one.

It's the church in Kavvadades isn't it?
Yes you are right, I always get the names mixed up. Hopeless. It's a lovely photo Eggy. Keep em comin. W. x
I reckon I make these too easy.
Tis Kavvadades Church. - When they have their festival all that flat area is full of chairs / tables and lambs on spits. Loadsa people with music etc. The place really comes alive.

You're all very welcome - They really make you feel part of the "family" there.
The bad news is that we wanted to be there for New Years Eve but they are closed as Spiro's son is getting married.
