Title: Eftihia
Post by: Eggy on June 22, 2007, 03:46:34 PM
I can never spell this name correctly. It's the "Snack Bar" on the right hand side past the Porto Fino - 2 sets of stone steps leading up to it. They opened late this year as they too had a glut of Olives to get ready. They seem busier than usual this year. We spent a recent evening there and no complaints on the food at all. A good place to learn a bit of Greek if Mother Katerina serves you. Try the specials on offer.
Large Pork Chop & Chips for me, Kleftiko for Wendy and nut cake for dessert. Plus 2 bottles of Retsina. - Only 20 Euros. I know moneys not always relevant, if you've had a good time, but 20 Euros is, in my opinion, good value.
( Some people would pay that for the peace and quiet and good view alone.)
Regards
Negg

Your not alone Eggy I think I spell the name different each time I write it!

I love nothing better than stopping off there after a hard day on the beach.  I'm in my glory sitting in the shade reading a book while Keith gazes out to sea...and indulges in some people watching!

I'm pleased to hear that it's busier than usual, everyone please try and go in...if only for a cold beer. :-)

I'm really pleased if Eftihia ( which I think means happiness - correct me if I'm wrong) is doing better. Such a beautiful location and friendly people too. Wasted opportunities there maybe over the years in my view.

Hi Negg

Thanks for that as we are stopping at the Kaloudis so the snack bar is the first taverna we come to and the last one on the way back.  I always wondered why it was so empty and therefore scared to try it, just in case.  Anyway thanks to you we will give it a whirl this year.
thanks
Amanda

It does look closed & I think it's that long walk up the steps which possibly puts a few people off. - There is usually a specials blackboard around the small track to the right hand side.

We walked past there last year and thought it was closed, or just open for family, that is what it looked liked.  Might have another look there this time and see whats on the board or they might have something nice available thats not on the board. Its in a nice quiet position and would be lovely for a meal.

We tried it on our last day last summer and found it super - will definitely be one of the first places we visit in August.

Here is a photo of Eftihia which I took last September. It may help to jog the memory of anyone who is having difficulty trying to picture it in their mind.  I know that I'm guilty of walking past places without actually noticing them...

I admit it does look closed, but honestly it was open!

Thanks for that info, Eileen.  I too wondered how you put a picture in, so will have to bear that in mind for future reference.

It WAS closed when we stayed at Kaloudis at the end of May! However, during our stay the people who owned it/staff started arriving at tidying it up. I think it finally opened just before we came home (8th June)
Always wanted to try it, though - next time we're in Arillas (soon I hope!) we'll go

Great photo Eileen, felt like I was back there sat looking at it and dreaming.  We love to come off the beach and spend a couple of hours sat looking at the wonderful view from the restaurant whilst sampling the fab food.  The lemon pie was great too last year.  The sea sparkles like diamonds and it's so peaceful.  We missed it this year as it was 4 June when we left and it wasn't open.  But, in September we hope to spend lazy afternoons there.  It really is lovely.

We are going to try it this summer as we have been meaning to each time we go. As it looks private we have never really looked at the menu, but will now lol

A few years back we decided to pop in to Eftihia's and must say that whilst we were the only ones there and we did have to wait awhile , the food that came was simple but really good, I cant remember what Hubby had but the lady who I think is the owner made me a plate of lovely little fish cooked in olive oil and garlic served with simple boiled potatoes, its was fantastic.I feel very guilty for not going back maybe because I wouldnt want to spoil the memory of those little fishes, we pass there every day when there so I think we will return when we arrive next week..I feel a fish week approaching what with me sardines at Dimitris a fancying for lobster at Valisis and ah yes maybe a few little fish at Eftihias.

We recently went back and had yet another really good evening. I'm not sure if I posted this already but "Eftihia" is the name of the daughter who works there,
Mother, Katerina, took the time to come from the Kitchen and welcome us,
They had quite a few guests that evening as well. - Good to see.

Eftihia is how you spell it in English script.  My grandfather is named Eftihios so unfortunately I'm cursed with it as a middle name....

And it does mean happiness, so it's nice in that sense but pretty awful when people giggle at you for it!

Judging by various reports, the biggest concern I can see with Eftihia,is that people think it's always closed.
I don't think they have a set lunchtime opening, they just open when they arrive.
And I think there were a few evenings they stayed closed due to a family illness.

They visited our house lunchtime for a quick hello but couldn't stay as they had to open the Taverna.. - .. But this was at 12:50 pm.
So if you had mounted those steps at midday, or one of those unfortunate evenings, you would be left wondering ?? - ( And would you climb those steps another time???)

We've got to know Efi and Mother very well over the last couple of years so maybe I can mention an OPEN / CLOSED board outside their Taverna.

It's always worth a visit. - As are most places you've never been in before.
