Have they started this practice in Corfu?
As you probably know most airlines sell duty free cigarettes in packs of 400
and the actual allowance you are allowed is only 200.
In Skiathos after you have collected your hold luggage all hand luggage is then scanned to check you have not exceeded your duty free allowance. People who have more than 200 cigarettes are then charged 38 euro for each 200 over the allowance that tax has not been paid.

If you buy more than your allowance, and get caught, you'll have to pay duty.

There was a time when you could take back 3000 cigs from Corfu providing you could prove they were for your own use. -
Now I wonder why that's now changed and is only 200? - Hmmmmm!Negg

You're importing goods. You're avoiding Greek import duty. Same as the UK.

I wonder if it's more about increasing their tax revenue though.
Tax evasion in Greece exceeds 60 billion euro a year according to the Bank of Greece on June 12th.
Incomes officially declared in the country totaled 80 billion whilst consumption totals 140 billion
Tax evasion total when Greece signed their first bailout agreement was 110/120 billion so tax collection from whatever source has improved the economy
I was only asking if this practice has started in Corfu
