Title: Sorely tempted
Post by: Alan and Jan on December 22, 2011, 01:05:07 PM
The pound has been creeping up against the euro over the past few weeks. FairFX are currently offering an exchange rate of euro 1.184 per pound. I know we don't travel until May but I'm getting tempted to get some euros now. The best we managed during this past year was euro 1.129 per pound. Quite a bit of difference thus giving us extra to spend in Arillas in 2012.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

I've been thinking the same thing Alan, 1.18 against 1.13 would buy a few extra Royal Ionians

Mmmmmm....more Royal Ionian..... 8)

Looks like a result of the trillion euros pumped into the euro banks earlier in the week. Personally I'll be leaving until the last few days before my holidays in june as I'd be surprised if greece is still in it.

I on the other hand think the opposite but I have been known to be wrong on MANY occasions !  I think Greece will stick with the Euro

Looks as though Italian bank unicredit may be in trouble. If that spreads to others..................

Even some of the high st exchanges are offering 1.15 at the moment. I think the Euro will have to be made attractive to outside currencies to encourage more exchange. I think I will take a chance and hold on till nearer June.

So whats going to happen when the Euro turns to Drachma ?

I would love to see the Germans forced to change their currency to Drachma !!! lol

I remember those days Curt - when I bought my land I actually bought in Drachmas! When the build started they were using dual currencies and I had to send my payments in Euros - I was getting 1.56 to the £ !!

Took the plunge and ordered our euros from FairFX today. Got 1.191 euros to the pound. Just our luck that it will keep going up. But want the heck we are on our way, well 69 days away but who's counting.

We are in the same boat, we go home on 14th May. I think I might part with half our spends now and get the rest when we get there. Viv

Thomas Cook , 1.2 euros , thats a great price Jon !  Its unusual for TC as they are not usually that competitive with their rates?

Janis how many bottles of red wine is it likely to be? Wonder if the Acoustic Jukebox is at the Kaloudis this year.

Jungle Formula have brought out a plug in that is similar to the Febreze, Airwick type plug in air fresheners. The mozzie kill juice is in a bottle and is supposed to last 45 days. Screw top for the bottle so easy to transport. Got one to try out but will have the old tablet type as a back up if it fails to do the job.

Oh yes Val, well spotted on the date of Jon's post !  he he !  Even so I think the rate over the last week is the highest its been for over a year (if not years!) and I am just gobsmacked that TC offered that rate because
1) As I say I thought the last weeks rate was the highest for over a year
2) TC don't don't tend to be competititive exchange rate wise
Fair FX must have been offering about 1.24 at that point !

Hi Mick and Jill I may be wrong but I doubt a small village like Arillas would take the currency card although they do take visa and debit cards. If you are nervous about taking currency there are plenty of places in resort that will be happy to change for you. There is no ATM in Arillas unfortunately.

I used a Travelex pre-loaded card last year and I will do the same this year. I had no problems at all and Helen also had a card which was a backup in case I lost mine.

FairFX at 1.21 euro to the pound today. Looks as if the pound is on a roll at the moment.

Just checked rates and at the moment FairFX is 1.20 and Travel FX is 1.2041 and with no commission and free registered delivery I think TravelFX is great and have used them for the last 3 years and (fingers crossed) up to now have been totally reliable with delivery on the dot.
