Hi, has any body driven up to the summit of Mount Pantokrator from Arillas?, how long does it take and what are the roads like?

Paul D

Yes, Karen, we have.  Didn`t take that long. We went along to Acharavi, then took a right into tho Old Village which takes you onto a wide main road for a few miles, then begins to get narrower as you climb.  You pass through some quaint villages on the way.    The drive was easy.
When you get to the summit, head for the taverna for a drink and a fabulous view to all points of the compass. Breathtaking!!

Thanks Paul, I really want to go there this year, did you have a jeep or car?

Paul D

We hired a car- only a small thing for the two of us from Arillias Cars. Peugoet 107, I think.
Well worth the drive.  Go for it.

We did about 5 years ago, took same route, well worth the drive views are amazing,be careful on narrow road and watch out for the coaches coming down.

Steph ~

I've done it a couple of times in a little Peugoet 106 and a jeep and it was fine, if a little hairy at times! (well, I didn't drive, ex-husband did). It's hard to say how long it took from Arillas as we meandered there via other places - but it's not miles away. The road up is ok but the last bit is concrete road and quite steep. Coaches don't do the top bit but there are jeep safaris so you can encounter 10 or so coming the other way.  It's worth the trip up though for the view.

We did the trip by scooter one year, much better by car. Don't forget to drop into Old Perithia and have a look around, a good place to stop for a snack or meal

Steph ~

Ooh I love Old Perithia - If I took my dad there I'm sure he'd find a renovation project or two.  Amazing place and well worth the journey along the wiggly road!

Thanks every one for the info, photos posted in August

Our little house is in Loutses about 2 miles below old perithia. One option is to go to old perithia earlyish, then use the footpath up from there, it's about an hour's walk. Cool off have a drink and a look around the monastery, then march back down the path to old perithia. Have a good meal at one of the tavernas there before driving back, if you take long enough you can stop somewhere like Peroulades for the sunset.

Have to say Old Perithia was a great place to visit. We went there after going to Koulora and Kalami and went through Loutses.
If you haven`t been - go!!
