Led to believe that this is next Sunday the 28th. Anyone know if there are any festivities planned in Arillas. May nip up to Morrison's and get a few bottles of Myths and have our own celebration.

Ochi Day.

The day the Greeks said No to the passage of Italian forces into Greece, Italy backed by Hitler wanted free passage into Greece but the refusal by General Ioannis Metaxas' to allow this brought the Greece into the war, and it was Greek forces who pushed Mussolini's forces back trough Albania.
Some historians believe that if the Greece had agreed to the request that Hitler would have Invaded Russia in the spring, instead of making his disastrous attempt to invade during the winter.

I was in Arillas last year for this special day. The locals all dress up in their Sunday best and were placing big wreaths made of bay leaves at the cenetaph in Kavvadades!. Great to see and will see it again this year!

Thanks for the history lesson John - really informative. I didn't know about that, I wonder what would have happened to old Blighty if they had said yes??
