Sea temp ??

Hi all, i've posted this same question on the general forum but it hasn't appeared yet so posting it here too as its a beachy question. Just wondering if the sea temp is warm enough for snorkeling and swimming or does it only really warm in july aug sept? we're coming out in a couple of weeks and want to know if we should pack all out snorkeling gear or leave it at home

Too many to call, but many folks have slavered over the grilled prawns with extra garlic at Eftihia's. Just along from Kaloudis and big steps up to it.

I would say pack it and bring it. We saw people swimming the other evening at 10pm ish and ,during the afternoons there are many in the sea.

Some of the locals are still underwater swimming with spearguns looking for fishy delights to grace their Taverna tables.
(Don't worry though , they are out far enough so as not to bother swimmers)

Well, the sea was certainly warm enough for me in June, you couldn't keep me out of it!

I can say that somedays it was warm and somedays it was cold in May.

Clear some days and cloudy on others.

Some days there were lots of fish and I mean LOTS others there were very few.

But the sea is meant for swimming in so just get out there and ENJOY IT! I will be next week ....yipeeeeeeeeeee !!

My concern is will I burn in this heatwave. I may have to stay out of it in the middle of the day so it will be me in the sea at 10 pm.

As far as I am concerned the sea temperature is fine for snorkelling in late June and July. I snorkel almost every day on holiday and have in the past snorkelled for 90 minutes plus at a time off the south end of the beach and off a boat in the deep water on the Arillas facing side of Gravia. Okay some days are better than others and you do get mad fluctuations in current temperature from one minute to the next, but if you have ever stuck you head in the waters of the UK and received a brain freeze akin to eating ice cream too quickly, you will find the waters of Arillas a joy.

I don't do Sea Temps folks! - Water is best found cold in an ouzo.

But ..... if people swim in it, I can only beleive the temp is fine.

The only electrical problem I know is whether to connect an immersion heater to my back should I choose to take advantage of the sea.
*Any water below 25deg is cold to me!*

In January 2000, because it was cheap that time of year, I did my PADI Advanced Open Water Diver at Stoney Cove in Liecestershire. Its was snowing a bit when we arrived and I think the water temperature was about 4 degrees.

We did a 30 meter dive to an upturned Watertank on stilts which is pitch black and there have been a number of fatal accidents there. That kept your mind off the numbing cold for a while. Ascended and did a safety stop on the way which just plain hurt with cold.

Surfaced with blue lips and when I got out wanted to pee but there was a slight logistical problem with that. Lets just say no man would venture to the Northern End of Arillas beach whilst that cold.

Thank goodness for chemical handwarmers.

Did my drysuit specialisation later that day which was a lot better but have never dived in the UK since.

May in Arillas, no problem. Bring a shorty wetsuit for a longer....erm... session.

The water is certainly lovely and warm at the moment. My friend and I attempted to swim to Gravia the other day...alas, didn't quite make it but we were in the water for 90 minutes and didn't get cold.
