Hi Folk
Thanks for the kind comments Georgia and Glenny.
Must say that I never get bored on the beach - but each to their own.
We've deliberately decided to holiday later in the year (when the olive trees have stopped spreading their pollen) so will be in Arillas in September this time, and, fingers crossed will set off on a few good walks, perhaps even to the new porto timo you mention, Viv.
Perhaps if no one is hiring cars (because 'times is 'ard) the prices will come down - or am I just dreaming.  Hire prices around the Greek Islands seem to vary considerably according to season and demand - have paid anything from €12 to €25 per day for a very small car.
All the best
Pat

Hi All your postings say such lovely things, even if the walks are not possible, Arillas is everyone's heavan in whatever way you choose it to be and of course just in Arillas alone, there are lovely people and lovely things to see. Like spending many a happy hour on the beach and so true it's never boring.
Happy  times and happy holidays to all, however we choose to spend  our time there.

Love

Re car hire, we have just booked an economy  car for 3 days and it costs 33Euros a day or basically £33 a day considering the exchange rate so you will do well to get one  for £25!!
But heres hoping for you.

Hi
Thanks for the information, John.  Sounds like I'd better laze on the beach till sundown, or just rely on shank's pony.
Am sure you will enjoy the use of a car though.  I've happy memories of motoring to the top of Pantocrator, visiting Paleocastritsa, and the nice little beach at Saint Spiridon.  We hired cycles one year when staying near Sidari, but after a week in the saddle swapped to a little car and made for the Aphrodite at Roda each evening for one of their very nice dinners.
Best wishes
Pat

Small hire cars are availabe, such as Panda etc, for as little as 19e per day.
You need to shop around and look at the various options.
(Just hired one for 17 e per day - Aaahh! Another Red Pug ( This ones newer though )

Some places will now pick you up and/or drive you back to the airport as part of the deal.

Cheers

This website ... http://www.eikones.zoxt.net/en/ker1.html in a very good place for photographs and information about Corfu.

Try looking at the  the panorama view of Agios Stefanos in 3D format QuickTime VR

You may have to use IE to view it, but its worth it.

Hi
Thanks Eggy for the price update on car hire.  Will look into it when we get there in September.
Terry: Have had a look at the spectacular panoramic view of St Stefanos - very impressive indeed.  The website is also interesting.
Best wishes
Pat

Thank you for the mention of my site! At last the British people may see the real things, in spite of their American censors ;)))

Terry, thanks for finding this link.
akon, thanks for a cracking site, you show two of my favourite places, Corfu and Santorini. I hope to visit Crete next year so your info about there will be a great help.
Once again thanks to both of you, Mick.

Have just spent quite some time enjoying akon's website.  I looked at the Corfu section the other day and found it excellent, but now have just found the Crete section and again a remarkably thorough travelogue with wonderful photographs illustrating it.  It brought back happy memories of Spinalonga and many other places in the eastern half of Crete.
All the more interesting as in June will be venturing to Crete for the second time.
Many thanks akon.

I know we have mentioned Night Owl before but I have to say it is well worth a visit. We went several times in the last couple of weeks and love it there. It is simple and friendly with a very good atmosphere. Nick and Linda are wonderful hosts and the food is excellent, albeit the menu more limited than other places. Highly recommended.

Thanks for reminding us about the Night Owl again Sandy.
It's sometimes easy to forget about it. I don't know how many times Christian & I have walked by it & not stopped off.
We really must do something about that in the near future :-)
So glad you had a good time.
