Hi
Like the idea of hiring a boat, Kevin G, Paul C, & GazCaz.  Suggestions please where boats for hire are available - do they do hire down by Arillas jetty?  Rough idea of the cost would be appreciated.  I fancy a boat trip down the coast.
Regards
Pat

Thanks for that Kevin.  Have looked at this site umpteen times and never noticed the 'boat hire' button.
The pics there are very tempting - thanks again.

Technically you are not meant to drink and drive in a speed boat, but a spot of lunch on a lovely beach and a swig or 10 of local beer or wine.......Mmmm, just don't go silly. If you hire from the San Stef people you can actually collect the boat from the watersports guy near the jetty in Arillas and drop it off there too. Dead simple. We had the Olga (10hp) from 10am-6pm and went to the very limits north and south for the full day and the fuel last year cost 40 euro (we used half a tank). I was surprised how nippy the 10hp boat was and its so so easy to operate, with the stick, it was wonderful to be in control of exactly where you wanted to go. The sheltered beaches, swimming and snorkling were great. There was two of us so with fuel it was 55 euros each, but even the Olga can take 4 people very nicely which would have taken it down to likely 30 euros s the extra weight would have used a bit more fuel. Well worth a try. GazCaz

Hi Folk
Think you will find the water OK Valerie.  We were there last year May 15th to 30th and the water was fine most of the time, especially if you don't go out too far.  Its well worth taking your mask and flippers.  Try round the jetty, the very far north beach by the headland, and the south beach.  Plenty to go at there.
Picture below taken in May 2003 in Corfu after snorkelling out about half a mile to a little island off St Spiridon beach.

Best wishes

Thanks for that Kevin.  Will be visiting Southend on the Bank Holiday (25th) - don't know if the sea will be warm enough for a swim though, but will bring the trunks just in case.
Best wishes
