Having read all of the posts on various subjects are we really going to a place full of ageing hippies, superb food, excellent local wine and ultra friendly locals? Can't wait sounds like absolute paradise.

I have never tasted those gyros as im not quite sure what meat (or parts of it!!) I am eating but you have GOT to try their chips.  My son had a few bags late at night last year and they were divine!!

Hi Robin,

Yes, it truly is a place of ageing hippies, superb food, excellent local wine and ultra friendly locals!!  lol (To say nothing of the beach!)  Absolute paradise is right.....

Jo,

I'll have to try the chips next visit.  Thanks for the tip.

Jo... they arent the same gyros/kebabs that we get in the UK.  nothing like it otherwise I wouldnt eat them!  The meat tastes like chicken but could be pork, but they throw a few chips in, tzatsiki and salad too, in a nice soft flat bread.. none of this pitta bread that goes soggy. I will have at least ONE for lunch, work up an appetite after a long walk whilst we are away... then its back to the salads and kleftiko, stifado, stamna, sea bream and everything else on offer!

Hi Sue

I must admit, I have heard so many people raving about them and am very tempted but I am resisting until I get a definitive animal origin!!

angiem

The ones I have are definately chicken and absolutely delicious.

Also , to repeat what BG just said, they are nothing like the kebabs you get here. There's no big, fly-infested lump of something, revolving in the background! - it's actual , clearly indentifiable, pieces of chicken.

You must try one , Jo.

Ok, you have convinced me.  I will sneak one and gorge myself when my fitness fanatic healthy eating husband is otherwise engaged! ha

sue

gyros for me too.
tzaziki (just love it)
Annas chicken salad (omg its gorgeous)

Along with the many of the locals I love my Gyros, last year I'm sure that's what my friend ate all holiday.

In and around Arillas though every Gyros I have had has been Pork, you can usually see it cooking on the spit behind the counters, there is one at the Grill bar next to the Malibu, it looks like Donna Kebab spits we have at home in our Burger bars but trust me that is where the comparison ends. If you feel like a treat after a long walk Tasty Corner at the Crossroads in San Stefanos does an almighty Gryos, just count the locals in there, always a good sign and it open very very late.

Chicken Gyros exits but I have never seen or been offered one in Corfu, saying that there are many places in Corfu I have not been :)

Food wise:

Anything unhealthy from George's for Breakfast :)
Anything Lamb from Kostas
Chicken al la Crème from Horizon
Sofrito and Slouvaki from Brouklis
Mirage for great value and atmosphere
Grill bar for anything after midnight.

My Mum asked me to mention the fish from Gratziella and I wish I could remember the name but in Avliotes over looking the town square right by the road is a fantastic restaurant with an amazing view looking down the valley toward Sidari or you can turn round and watch people struggle on the insane roads, always worth the price of admission when a tour bus rolls up. If you look for it, it is right next to the big clock on the wall.

Special mentions to Town Pizza, Beachcomber (just try the Fillet), both in San Stefanos and Dyonosis having an evening meal to that view is quite special and the food is great to, unfortunately someone will have to drive, unless you stay there of course http://www.dionysoscorfu.com/
