Am I better off taking travellers cheques and some euros, or
No travellers cheques and all euros, or
English money and change it in Arillas, or
All travellers cheques, or
Any other solution.

Please, please someone help, I need advice, quick.

Amanda, I've been thinking long and hard about this one too!  I think I'm going to take about 100 euros with me, take some sterling and change it there and also hoping to be able to withdraw from the ATM.  With the info provided by Eggy, even when you've paid the commission, the rate is still higher in Arillas and changing it there is better for the local economy.  That's the plan at the mo, of course if the rate goes up over here, I may take all euros with me!  Sorry, I don't think I've helped you at all!

hi amanda, i think we are going to take some euros and some sterling to change up when we need it and a debit card as a back up! i never take travellers cheques, as they are too much hassle, and somewhere like arillas there is no problem with security anyway!

For the last couple of years we have taken all euro's with us but are petrified until we are safely in the apt incase we lose it all!!

Hi Ger.
The obvious place to start would be Temple Bar, it's Dublins west end but be warned it's very touristy. There are several pubs that host do's (comedy, bands etc) and most have some form of entertainment. The good bit is the size of Dublin, most places are walking (staggering) distance or a short cab ride. Be careful late at night and stay in a group, Dublin has lost some of it's innocence since joining E.U. You'll have a great time anyway. Enjoy !

My only concern about using the debit card Terry is what if the machine in Arillas doesn't work, we'd be left without cash and the nearest one after that is Sidari.

I usually keep a minimum of €200 and top up at the cash machine. If the machine is not working I will have enough money to keep going for a few days. I could also use a card to pay for meals etc if I needed to.

Amanda, if Stuart and yourself were needing to get to Sidari or elsewhere for any reason, you would only have to ask for Helen or myself at the Horizon and we would take you. And that goes for any other people who are in Arillas at the same time. It would be very sad if we communicated most days, here on the forum, but could not help a fellow forum member with any form of holiday emergency.

Thomsons will price match..so the current best rate I have seen today is M&S 1.209,all ones needs to do is take a copy of the todays price and they will match it.
I am going to do a 50/50 split euro/sterling and see how it goes.
