Easter Monday is a bit like Boxing day, a bit of an anti climax, lots of hangovers and a lot of washing up to do. Speaking personally I know that the fact the first real flights start on Easter Monday will put a damper on the big day , the Sunday! The celebrations are over I'm afraid.
It all starts with Carnival 9 weeks before Easter, with parades each Sunday until the big one 6 weeks prior, followed next day by  Clean Monday when we traditionally go out into the country or to the beach have a lenten picnic and fly kites. Then it goes quiet during Lent which most people practice even if only in a token way, till Maundy Thursday, when the Easter processions start.Eggs are dyed symbolically red to be cracked and eaten on Sunday. St Spiridon's casket is brought out to join these processions. Friday another Procession, Saturday morning pot throwing in the town followed by huge celebration in the Platia, with a service , lighting of candles and big firework displkay, which goes on on a smaller scale in every village , usually accompanied by a volley of shots from 12 bore shotguns! That evening families break their fast then after midnight only to get up early to get the family lamb on the spit, and celebrate all together.  A great time is had by all.

Vivian, I've not been over at Easter yet so I haven't a clue about how long the celebrations last  :(

We are not coming over until June 24th, so I envy you seeing the wonderful show of the springtime wild flowers.

Thanks to Sue for the insight into a Greek Easter. :)
