The "little" Symbol is called a "FavIcon" and is added in the code for the web page.

On the Arillas home page the source file shows ...

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://www.arillas.com/page/images/favicon.ico" />
      <title>Welcome to Arillas</title>

Different browsers  interpret the code in different ways so Internet Explorer can show a different FavIcon to Forefox,

If I use IE7 I get

On Firefox I get

And if I went to http://www.favicon.co.uk/ or http://www.chami.com/html-kit/services/favicon/

I could make my own Favicon and get Eggy as a Favicon

Phew!!!! Glad thats finished

Yep that's the symbol I get.  God you're good.

That's great information Terry, I always wondered about these little icony things.

So is it easy enough to set one up? (before I ask my brother another favour!)

Eileen,

You go to http://www.favicon.co.uk and generate the code for your favicon, by either choosing one from their library or by uploading a photograph. The code that is generated can then be pasted into your website.

I know you like a "dabble" with things Eileen  so have a look at this website ...

http://www.techsmith.com/screen-capture.asp

There is some software on there called "Snagit". I use it whenever I want to take a "snapshot" of the screen. I used it to do the examples of favicons. I also use it for training manuals.

You can download a trial from the above website. Its one piece of software that I could not do without.

Terry,

Thanks for the explanation.  I've not looked yet but I should be able to do the 'favicon' part it's just the part about pasting it to my website.  LOL..that's what big brothers are for, but it does mean that I've actually attempted to do part of it myself. :-)

I often wondered how you managed to grab a snapshot of the screen to post on the forum.  I'll take a look and give it a try.  I'm really out to impress my brother now! ;-)

Cheers,
