Ooooh Phil...that bench outside of Thallasa....my bench if you don't mind!!!!
You know those little brass plaques you see to commemorate the departed....that bench will just not be big enough to hold them all will it? We returned from Arillas a week ago and still have the blues, now thinking quite seriously about a time plan for selling up and making our home in Corfu. We have our baby in final year at uni to still support and my husbands health problems to take into account, but after talking to a retired German doctor who has the same health problems as him at the wine festival and who told us the treatment he receives is the same as he received in Germany....why not..as they say in Arillas?? We came home to a house that is now too large for us, an enormous garden that with me workink 60hrs a week I do not have time to do and Chris does not have the energy to do....and not enough time to spend together, and thats whats life is all about surely, spending time with your soulmate! x

Georgia luvver I DO MIND! And so does Sandy.... That bench is OURSSSS!

Seriously though, the moments of total tranquility and peace we all get while sitting there are priceless.

We don't want to sell up, but might well eventually. We planned to rent/rent and when the euro was 1.30 or more, the sums added up. They don't right now though. We worked out long ago that we could live our simple, rural life even better in Arillas or nearby. And Arillas is a village like ours, where everone knows everyone and life is slow, quiet and very political! Plus there is the sea, and many more choices of nearby entertainment. Even in the winter - Akti and Amourada both open out of season. That's 100% more than here.

It must be heartwarming to have met someone going through the same times as yous and to find new hopes and dreams. We both hope they come to fruition.

We gave up the huge place and huge garden 8 years ago. Sadly it didn't fund the rest of our dreams. But we will both be there one day soon, both being the operative word. Jen is my soulmate, and both our souls belong there.

Lovely post Georgia. And love to both of you.

Phil

Well said Georgia. Life is for living - you never know what is round the corner. Go for it while you can is my motto!

Only kidding....there's room for everyone.

Same predicament for us too Georgia, we've spent many hours discussing the same point.  I'm sure there are many others also in the same boat all wondering whether to downsize or not. The big thing for us is our emotional attachment to our house and home...but on balance as Sandy says 'life is for living' not paying for unnecessarily big bills and struggling to find time to maintain a large garden.

I foresee many more hours discussing pros and cons...over a few drinks of course!
