I couldn't find anything on the dreaded jellyfish in the forum, so am I right in understanding that there is none or hardly any in Arillas waters?

Have never seen any jellyfish but about 3 years ago a friend of our daughter was stung by some kind of fish. She had to have an injection from the local doc.

The only greek waters we have seen jelly fish was around a little island just off Lagana.  Mike was swimming with the turtles and a jelly fish swam by too.

Good to hear! I was stung once on Kontokali beach in my groin by a purple and seethrough and that was no laughing matter. And in Thassos on Tripiti beach there were a lot of sort of white ones but they did not sting.

Thank you for all your replies :)

We have seen jellyfish, albeit small ones, washed up on the nudie beach.
Don't know if this happens regularly or not but as we've seen some we thought we ought to mention it.

Never seen any Jellyfish in the sea. - Rumour has it that the shoals of Barracuda keep them away!!
Seriously though. - A lot of Tourists do get "stung" on the beach every summer by a slippery little character. -- Latin name "Donutus Manus"

Last summer, we had the use of a boat for a few weeks and tended to go north from Arillas towards San steff, as we passed the end of the rocky outcrop between the two towns, we did often see two types of jelly fish. Most were clear and quite hard to spot but we also noticed some with a redish/brown tint on the back. The good news is that every time we returned to Arillas. the closer we got, the fewer we saw, it must be the temp of the water which is very deap near the end of the rocky outcrop. hope this help, regards, Gary.

I did not stay in arillas this year but ag.g nrth. saw loads they were red and brown in colour, they put loads of us off going into the sea, the saying red in nature means danger sprung to mind, I was not going to risk it but then the b***** sandflies got me!!!! I have never seen any in arillas, been there umpteen years.

OK. You've got me worried now. Was it a weaver fish? do you get them in Greece?

blondegirl

I hate the weaver fish, a friend got stung by one and had to put his foot in scalding hot water. It was really painful and he was screaming like a baby.  I got attacked by sandflies last year too more than the mozzies, they were a real pain as I wasnt aware of what they were at first, I dont know how to avoid them though.
