Just booked holiday for the end of August. Would like to know where the nearest supermarket is from Nikos apartments and the best place for car hire. Any tips for seeing the off the beaten track  Greece while we are here?

Would it be a good idea to hire a car and if so is it best to book before we leave or is it cheaper when we get there.

Also what about cycle hire?

Finally what is the food like for veggies and average cost for dinner for 2 with drinks. Phew lots to ask, but lots to know.

Thanks  all

Not sure where Nikos is but there are lots of mini markets so dont worry about that.Lots of food for veggies, try the Giant beans ( Giannettes),or the courgette kavides, then you have stuffed peppers or toms.there are 2 car hire people in Arillas so take your pick,we always use Arillas car hire, but thats only because we have got to know the owners.Just get out a map and drive you will fine some mountain villages, you might have to turn your wing mirrors in to get down the streets but just go for it.

There is a small mini market opposite Tria Adelphia just a few minutes from Nikos but we had a car for the fortnight we stayed there and tended to fill up at some of the larger supermarkets.  There is a reasonable one next door to the bakery, about 10 mins walk from Nikos towards the sea front.

We liked having a car because we could load it up with all our beach gear and drive down.  Wouldn't have fancied lugging it all as it is around a 20 minute walk (with kids).  We hired through Anna at Arillas cars and have done the same for our forthcoming trip.  www.arillascars.com

Are you staying at Nikos same time as us, Belsilver?  We are there 24 july to 7 August.

Cheers
