Hi I have been reading reports of numerous jellyfish sightings across Corfu. Have there been many spotted in Arillas or is more Southern locations of the island? Thanks

No spotted ones Flora just a few of that clear/pinky colour.

Some proper info for you. I have been told there have been sightings of jellyfish around Sidari beaches but no one, as far as I know, have reported any in "Arillas Seas"

You can eat jellyfish in many ways, including shredded or sliced thinly and tossed with sugar, soy sauce, oil, and vinegar for a salad. It can also be cut into noodles, boiled, and served mixed with vegetables or meat. Prepared jellyfish has a delicate flavor and surprisingly crunchy texture

So we can see jellyfish on Arillas menus something different 🦑haha

Kevin, I will answer your serious post about Jellyfish because ,as you know , I do not have a sense of humour. (I am not replying to your silly posting!!!)

Purple Jellyfish are now in abundance around the swimming areas of Ag.Georgious.
and .... someone swimming in Arillas was stung by one of the lil slippery amoebas.
(Straight to the docs , so I am told - The lady not the Jellyfish!)

and...... they are a discomfort to many who take a dip in Sidari. (Especially those with union jack shorts!)
So, carefull is the way to go and, as Flora said ... keep an eye on the sprogs!.

and... Kevin...I look forward to you eating a jellyfish salad washed down with a nice cup of tea!!!

Hi Flora - I was there a couple of weeks ago. I swam in the sea most days and I only saw one. - a purple one. Before we arrived there were reports of many but like I say I only saw one . The sea is so clear that they are easy to spot. Its a case of being vigilant but there are certainly very few.

Important!

Only jellyfish purchased fully prepared from reputable retailers should be eaten. It is not safe simply to take a jellyfish from the sea yourself for food unless you have the required specialist knowledge regarding what can and can not be eaten.

There have been quite a few seen in Arillas recently but the numbers seem to be decreasing. Apparently the best cure for this particular species is to mix bicarb of soda with sea water so I will be popping some in my beach bag just incase as I in the sea loads

WARNING! - PURPLE JELLYFISH
It is very unlikely that you will, but if you do get stung by a purple jellyfish you should do the following:

1.  Get out of the sea into a safe place at the beach

2.  Wash with plenty of sea water, NOT fresh water

3.  Scrape any of the jellyfish tissue from your skin using something like a credit card – Never with the hands.

As soon as you can, treat the area with one or more of these methods:

Apply a paste made of 2 tablespoons baking soda and 2 tablespoons of sea water. Carefully apply it on the wound and leave it there for several minutes. Do NOT use vinegar or anything acidic.

Apply a cold pack.

Use an Antihistamine or Cortisone cream on the rash for the next few days.

Check with a doctor or dermatologist if the rash persists or gets worse.

Hello All, we're arriving in Arillas on 2nd September (9th visit) and just wondered if there's still a problem with Jellyfish there.

All the other posts are from June & July so hopefully things have improved. Does anyone have more recent info?
