Is Helens (next to Makis and opposite Vavilas) still a Taverna/Restaurant?

we called in on one occasion and the food was very good, unfortunately the position it was in on the back road was not a help and they struggled with attracting customers.

I recall Vavillis (Thomas's) was a little like that when we first visited
You could get a table there without any problems in the height of the season.
Try getting one there now without booking.

I have often wondered about the place further up the that lies back from the road,
(Margarita), there are always tables and chairs outside, it is lit up every night and a full menu is advertised. unfortunately I have not seen anyone eating there.
again it is a little out of the way.

I have popped in there for a beer a couple of times Ref but never eaten there. I remember seeing a waiter in the doorway one night all suited and booted and looking the business !
I might try it this year, I wonder if anyone else has tried it on here?

We had our first ever evening meal there in 2006! We only went once but it may have changed by now.

Tactful could be on the verge of bad publicity , Karl.
Wegg and I went there, 4 years ago,  and the meal was very good but so much to eat. We are not heavy evening eaters and felt embarrassed that we left so much, (Of course , nowadays we would ask for a doggie bag)
Should be on yer "Fings to do" list.

I meant no harm,  it just wasn't for us,  like I said it was 2006 and most things have changed since then,  especially me!

No apologies needed Cheryl dearest. If there were no opinions, experiences or differences we wouldn't need a forum, just a cure for boredom. Like Eggy, we had so much food given to us that we were a bit overwhelmed. But it was all delicious and we went back another night and asked for one meal between us. They were totally obliging, and we ate (maybe a bit too) cheaply. We would have recommended it and hope to again someday.

I may well have a bash at it then this year. ☺

Cheryl - DONCHWURRYLASS!! Only mentioned it because we went to Captains Table, once and meals were too big.

When someone asked me about it I said " Went there once and haven't been back since " - I was lucky he replied - "Not a good meal then " and quickly repaired my comment.

If Helens still supply those large meals , I would think a good place to take kids. They can "hoover" up what the parents can't finish

Be well

I went to Captains table a couple of times, fairly cheap, but as you said huge portions, I'll never forget the Childs portion of Spag Bol, it would have fed all four of us! I always look to see if it's open it was a great little place. Very friendly too.

well being blonde n'all I'm a tad confused! Are we still talking about Helen's or Margaritas? Which is the one with huge portions? We often walk past Margaritas if that is the one set back with chequered table cloths? Always say we are going to bob in but sheer laziness keeps us closer to the sea!

Ron and Sue

I think we are talking of Margaritas Jo. Nicos the owner is one of the nicest people I have ever met.The food is beautiful and the portions are enormous.Their English is possibly a little "fractured" but we have never had a problem with this.  Their English is certainly better than our Greek. If you get a chance do give it a try.
